Jennifer Aniston: Where should she go from here?

Here is something I can’t figure out: Why is Jennifer Aniston’s movie career not at least proportionally as huge as her tabloid allure? I mean Read the full post.

I think her Adam Sandler movie will be great that she just shot in Hawaii….but I think she would be great in a comic western….similar to Jane Fonda`s character in Cat Ballou.

Just Go With It is another romantic comedy that people will nag Aniston for doing, but she and Sandler seem like a good match, and chemistry is key.

  • Pat

Sorry – another thing. People keep saying The Switch had a worldwide marketing push. But I never saw a single trailer on television…. it was purely internet based on driven by tabloid/gossip interest. Could some one clarify this point

    • Mea

I live in the upper midwest and have seen trailers for it almost daily. I don’t know where you are, but i’d be willing to bet it wasn’t promoted much in the Bible belt.

    • Stormy

It got a lot of promos in the upper midwest. Don’t know about anywhere else.

The reality is that she’s not a box office draw. The Switch bombed, The Bounty bombed, and Marley and Me was only popular because of the dog. People are sick of Aniston. The bloom is off the rose and she continues to play Rachel in every film. If there is any hops for her it’s in the indie market. Cut your hair, do something edgy, Jennifer. Your “always a bridesmaid never a bride” schtick is very, very old by now. There’s a reason that everyone ends up dumping Aniston.

Just because you believe that doesn’t make it so! The Break Up over 204,999,689, Marley and Me 242,717,000 , He’s Just Not into You over 178,404,000, Love Happens cost to make 18 million and 34,096.799 and Management was an indie film that bombed! The Bounty Hunter the critics didn’t like cost to make 40 million box office 136,303,000 – a profti of 56 million -is better than what matt damons last 3 movies did! george clooney has only made profit off 1 movie in the last 4 or 5 that he has done. matthew mccoughan only made a decent profit off 1 movie out of 4 or 5 of the last movies he has done! jennifer has made over billion at the box office! so that is why she is a star and will continue to make movies. the switch is a good movie for fathers to see! i laughed and cried! the switch is my favorite romantic comedy since the proposal. you can tell when some one really sees the movie as it is divided into two parts! by the way jennifer has been a bride and i am sure she could be married if she wanted just to be married however she wants “the one” isn’t that what we all want. i waited and was so happy that i did! i am bless with a wonderful husband however i could have settle- people stayed after me and it is hard not to cave especially in your heart you know he isn’t the one and are tired of people talking!! i am glad jen is smart enough to wait and not settle!

      • hello!

Oh dear. I see Jen’s fembot fans will try and explain everything about her as amazing and wonderful.
Geez, if she’s so amazing, then why did her last film come in #8 right behind Julia Roberts in her 2nd week, pirahnas, Lil BoW Wow, a
vampire spoof and Nanny McPhee 2?
Face it, she’s all hype. If she was such a huge star, she would be like Julia Roberts in her prime. Julia could open romantic comedies on her NAME alone. Something only Bullock can do now. Jen is not in that league. She’s all Hollywood hype and her fans are delusional.

      • ASFan

Actually, the actual box office numbers for the weekend put The Switch ahead of Nanny McPhee.

  • Anne

I think if she did a TV show, it would be huge. I definitely think that should be her next move. Maybe she’s testing the waters with CT?

  • Sharon

Perhaps the fact that while she looks good, she has very little talent has something to do with it. It’s also difficult to tell one from another. She and J-Lo should just give up movies.

  • jj

    Actually, I LOVED the switch!
Funny, heart warming and touching. I think the problem is that in “todays world” if a movie isn’t loaded with violence, hard core sex and profanity it doesn’t draw as much interest! Thanks Jennifer for taking on roles in those good old lighthearted, clean cut, romantic and fun films!! My 21 year old daughter and I plan on seeing The Switch a second time as we had so much fun watching it together. A good movie like that always has me leaving the theater with such a nice feeling inside.

She needs to go away. Far, far away.

    • NY

I think all 3 of the “triangle” need to settle down and do their own thing that they have a passion for. Each og them Jen, Brad, and Angie have very special talents other than movies. I worry about Angie doing too much with 6 little ones to raise. Maybe 1 movie and a documentary a year plus her UN obligations plus all her extracurricular activities. Unfortunately, it’s all turned into a 3-ring circle with the tabloids more interesting than their movies. Their lives are a “movie” in itself. That’s what people now what to watch, not their movies.

  • O

She plays the same characters in different movies over and over again. I did see her in one “indy” movies, can’t remember the name but she was great, otherwise isn’t she getting bored doing the same roles?

    • jen

      Obviously not.

  • dee123

She should have been the opening kill in Scream 4 (look what it did for Drew Barrymore) Cox’s film will make more than The Switch & The Bounty Hunter anyway.

  • April

She seems like a nice woman. It also seems that she has brought her Rachel character to many of her movie roles.

I’m with another poster here. She should change her hair, cut and/or dye it. Maybe it’ll influence her to take on some different roles.

Or maybe she just likes playing Rachel – even though Friends has been over for years now.

Strictly (or mostly) TV Jen would be great. She was very funny on 30 Rock and I look forward to her on Cougar Town (impeccable, hilarious writing on that show). But, if she continues to be Movie Jen, then she should definitely choose to play characters who are multi-dimensional and perhaps unlikeable, at least at first glance. She has the potential to be a heavy-hitter (a la Maggie Gyllenhaal & Natalie Portman), she just hasn’t found a really well-written, surprising, edgy dramedy yet. Plus, she practically oozes charm. I look forward to seeing what her next choices are…

  • buang

    Let her do GLEE!

    • lyrica

you’ve got to be kidding!!!!!!!!! why??? are we supposed to believe she can sing??

      • Anon

No but it would showcase one more talent she lacks.

  • Branwell

She needs to go away for awhile. She is overexposed. Why not have that baby that she’s always talking about? Hmmm…

  • JoeC

Every character I’ve ever seen her play could be described as ‘Rachel Greene in the movies.’ When she did try to stretch in ‘The Good Girl’ she pulled it off. I’d say the talent might be there, but she’s too interested in being a tabloid queen rather than growing as an actress.

    • clearly

here’s the thing. perhaps she’s not interested in being a serious actress? She enjoys doing fun movies? I dunno – I feel like we are critiquing her as if she holding public office. She acts and entertains for a living – and maybe she’s the only one who gets how frivolous it is and doesn’t care?

  • m1

Track down Jason Reitman or Kathryn Bigelow and beg either him or her to cast her in either of their movies if there is a spot.
