Gordon Ramsay on 'The Tonight Show': Did he bug you, too?

Ramsay-on-LenoTo say Gordon Ramsay, the chef/host on Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen and Masterchef, is a sweet gentleman is like saying Sofia Vergara is a homely woman with a dumpy wardrobe. Clearly both are false: Ramsay’s MO is a mixture of screaming, profanities, and screaming profanities, while Vergara is Modern Family‘s hot-to-trot sexy mama. So when the two came together as guests on last night’s Tonight Show (a rerun of an episode I missed a few weeks back), it was a bit jarring to see classic Ramsay behavior. Instead of being mildly amused by his attitude, I was full-out annoyed. Between making sexual references toward Vergara, making fun of her son’s name, and at one point “playfully” slapping Vergara (1:42 in the second clip), I was really turned off. And yes, I’m glad Jay Leno stepped in to defend the actress, but he didn’t help the situation all that much. Was making fun of Vergara’s accent (“coooookies”) the best he could think of? Take a gander at the interview in the clip below.

Some of you may say she’s asking for the sexual innuendo with her skin-tight dress, but that’s WEAK. Back off with the lewdness, Ramsay. Am I the only one bugging out here? What do you guys think of clips?

    He’s gross.

  • Just me

    It’s just you.

Yeah, Jay Leno bothers me! Oh, wait…

I actually think Chef Ramsay plays up his screaming wacko side on “Hell’s Kitchen”. If you watch some of his other shows, you’d see that he actually has a surprisingly tender and caring side.

That being said, I remember watching this interview when it originally aired more than a month ago and being totally annoyed. He came off as a child who was off his ADD meds. On the other hand, Vergara gets major credit for handling with with equal parts sass and class.

I agree with you on that first part. On Kitchen Nightmares he’s only an ass when he has to be, and it’s obvious that the really cares about the people he’s helping and wants them to succeed – IF they care about their restaurant as much as he does.

I totally agree that Ramsay was acting like a child, and it was repulsive to see that a man so old had stopping developing maturity at age 12. Beyond being chauvinistic, I found him culturally offensive as well. His comments about Colombia were just stupid.

While Gordon might really be a caring individual, this interview made him seem like a world class @ss. I have seen his shows and am currently watching Master Chef but will rethink my programming choices. Sofia (or any other guest, male or female) did not deserve to be treated in that manner – she was all class. Gordon should be ashamed of himself.

That’s what you get for watching Leno.

Ramsay is an asshole but apparantly being a mean prick like he and Simon Cowell gets you rich and celebrity, these days. That or being completely obnxious and fame whores like Jersey Shore or Real Housewives. Talent and kindness isn’t valued unfortunately.

Well, we always knew Ramsey is a crass, witless jerk, who apparently doesn’t know how to have a normal conversation with a woman without making sexual innuendoes, and Vergara seems to have brought it all out of him in just a few minutes.

But geez, Ms. Ram, it’s not as if he groped her or anything. He only succeeded in embarrassing himself, and I think everyone (except him), knew it at the time. Vergara handled his idiocy well, and Jay’s line about English teeth was classic.

i stopped watching any of gordon’s shows a while ago because of the behaviors you have mentioned, i never liked leno so the combination is toxic in my book – they both behaved terribly and their wives should be sending them to the couch for weeks

Slow news day? Last night’s must have been a repeat because I saw this last week.

  • RK

    Leno still has a show?

  • RJ

I never really cared about him anyway, but after last night and specially, “You can take it back to f****** Colombia”, what a jerk! And Sofía had the class to hug him at the end.

  • Al

    Yep. He was very annoying.

  • Andre

This was some time back, not last night, but yes, I was uncomfortable watching Ramsay’s actions, Vergara trying to keep the interview about her and Leno usually not even in frame.

  • leemats

I’ve never seen Gordon’s show, but he behaved like a jerk. And Leno is not a very good “host.” His ratings are, in fact, lower than Conan’s were at this same time last year.

    • Sam

I watch Hell’s Kitchen. He’s only a prick in the beginning. I like that show because unlike other competition shows, Gordon Ramsey always pick the most deserving to be crowned as Champions, and not the most controvercial or the cocky ones. It’s like watching survivor but having the guy with the most integrity win and not the one who stabbed the most people in the back.

Archana, I can’t believe you tricked me into watching those lame segments. That’s 8 minutes of my life I’ll never get back, and I blame you!
