Breaking: Angelina Jolie will not play Marilyn Monroe in movie told from perspective of a jaunty pooch

Angelina-Jolie-Marilyn-MonroeImage Credit: Dave Hogan/Getty Images; Everett CollectionWell, it seems sort of obvious when you put it that way. The LA Times’ Ministry of Gossip has confirmed that Angelina Jolie is not attached to star as Marilyn Monroe in the adaptation of author Andrew O’Hagan’s novel The Life And Opinions Of Maf The Dog, And Of His Friend Marilyn Monroe. The Daily Mail reported that O’Hagan (Be Near Me) had recently revealed that Jolie had beat out Scarlett Johansson and Christina Hendricks for the role. His novel, well-received in the UK and hitting US shelves in December, is told from the perspective of Marilyn’s beloved pet Mafia Honey (Maf for short), a gift from Frank Sinatra in 1960. Through his eyes, the last two years of her life unfold. Watch the animated trailer for the book below.

Who would you like to see play Monroe in the film? Were it to actually end up on the big screen, Johansson or Hendricks would be lovely. Lifetime? Jennifer Love Hewitt.

So much for trying to fire up the rumor mill to build buzz for your book, I guess. On the other hand, this movie sounds so amazingly stupid that I have no doubt it will get made.

  • Chris

I really love Jolie, but I think someone else would be better for this

    • chrissy

i so agree shes not the person for this part

  • LAJackie

Ugh, why do they even keep making these movies? There is nobody like Marilyn. She was a one and only true original. She can’t be replicated or duplicated.

    • lolli

I love Angie, but she is nothing like Marilyn, She would have to gain at least 50 pounds. Her face, eyes, lips is nothing like hers. I believe if they cast someone they better be as big as Angie, a new comer or someone on the B list wont cut it.

      • chrissy

        lol so true

  • Madd

    My vote’s for Hendricks.
Casting Jolie as Cleopatra was enough of a mistake. Look, I think Jolie can be a good actress when she wants to be, but the truths is she bears no resemblance to Marilyn Monroe or Cleopatra.

    • Karate Pants

You sure you want to throw her into something like this?
It seems too much like the Christmas letters people send, written from the perspective of the family cat or dog, all about the goings on with ‘their people’ throughout the year.
Please tell me you get those too…I can’t be the only one who maintains annual correspondence with the lamest people on earth. lol

And what exactly do you have to compare Jolie to Cleopatra….? Hieroglyphics? Her sarcophagus?!

      • Madd

Just judging based on the research paper I did on her for Latin class in high school.

    • Van

I agree on Monroe but Jolie FITS perfectly for Cleopatra

  • Karate Pants

    Christina Hendricks is above this.

    • Jewel

Is She? I’m sorry I love Christina Hendricks as much as the rest of them…but she plays the deceased friend in Katherien Heigl’s new rom-com…so this sounds like it’s right up her alley

      • Madd

I still can’t believe that. I refuse to watch that flick! I don’t want to see Christina die!!!!!!!!

      • @ Madd

ITA It would be much better if Katherine Heigl died. Or at least if her career would.

    • Adriiana

Above what? Marilyn?, maybe above the book or something like that, but she is not eve close to marilyn’s feet…

  • tovarbaker

she is perhaps the most iconic character in american cinema, she would be an impossible person to portray. no matter who plays her she will not measure up

  • Rob Grizzly

    Whew!
I love me some Jolie, but that is just not a good match.

Johansson? Don’t like her, but she fits better.
    Amy Adams?
    Natalie Portman?

    • Stormy

This is kind of out of left field, but this would be an older Marilyn, so what about Jenny Garth?

      • Adriiana

Yees her face is kind of similar, of couse that marilyn is incomparable but ahe culd play her alright…

  • rose

    scarlett might work…

    • Elle

Voice is too low. I think Hendricks could do a better Marilyn.

  • rose

My comment about her charity work isn’t coming up…oh well, check out her latest cause (flood) and donate.

  • Generation Gossip

Obv Angie wasn’t right choice…I’m not sure who could play Marilyn though

    Check Out GenerationGossip.com

  • Weavermomo

No one, absolutely no one, can play Marilyn.

  • twintimile

call me crazy but i actually could see nicole kidman playing her very well

  • anon99999

Jolie is by far the antithesis of Marilyn. Someone more like the late Anna Nicole, less volatile, softer, Jessica Simpson irrelevant, a whiff of trash. Jolie is hard, bones, willful, weird. They’re totally night and day; oil and water….

  • Butters

Kim Kadashian is the most suitable actress to play Marilyn Monroe in this flick. Ms Monroe wasn’t that great c’mon people. I’m not sure whether she could have succeed in today’s business. :D

    • alex

…you’re kidding right? like you’re making a funny?
love kim, can’t act. And in my opinion neither can ScarJo, Hendricks is a great idea

    • Stormy

WTF? Marilyn Monroe was a petite blue-eyed blonde. How does that in any way suggest Kim Kardashian? Idiot!

      • KRap

Im pretty sure Marilyn Monroe would not be considered petite she was almost 5’6. But Kim Kardashian playing her in a movie IS nuts.

  • BlackIrish4094

It’s obvious Jolie couldn’t play MArilyn because you know Marily wasn’t an emaciated, crack head looking woman like Jolie has become. Eat a sandwich girl!
