ABC Family developing series that sounds vaguely like 'Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead'!

abc-jane-showsImage Credit: Everett CollectionI don’t think you have to be a woman in her mid-30s to be irrationally excited over this news, but it probably helps: ABC Family confirms that it’s in the early stages of developing the series What Would Jane Do from writer April Blair and executive producer Gavin Polone (Gilmore Girls, Curb Your Enthusiasm, My Boys). The plot, as described by The Hollywood Reporter: “A case of mistaken identity has a dateless high school outsider living a double life as a twentysomething career girl in the corporate world.” Doesn’t that make you think back to 1991’s Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead (even if Christina Applegate’s character wasn’t dateless — hello, Josh Charles! — and the movie’s trailer doesn’t even mention that she gets a job)? Adding to my personal enthusiasm: Jane was Charisma Carpenter’s character’s name in See Jane Date (pictured), the first ABC Family Channel movie I remember thinking was genuinely good. It just feels right.

Anyone else oddly optimistic about What Would Jane Do?

DTMTBD was a great movie at the time, and I still love it (I’ll get right on that, Rose!). Reading the description of the show, it also made me think of Maebe Funke’s career as a movie executive on Arrested Development. Marry me!

Omg same here! Then I started thinking maybe Arrested Development was trying to reference the movie by doing that, and no one noticed. But I’ll have to check the show out when it comes on, most ABC Family shows are filled with awkward writing and horrible acting. Besides this summer’s Pretty Little Liars.

It’s actually “I’m right on top of that Rose” but yes DTMTBD is a great movie.

I can’t remember…was “Gangy” supposed to come out this Halloween or 2011?

Thank you! I loved ‘See Jane Date’, I thought I was the only one…

So this doesn’t actually have anything to do with Charisma Carpenter?

I guess the writer just thought she should be in it. But yes, the picture is misleading. It makes it seem like she’s in the show.

One of my absolute favorites… maybe I’ll rewatch it tonight, I seriously could give a list of quotes…
“Sue Ellen, every girl over twenty-five should have a cucumber in the house.”
“Don’t feel overwhelmed, just do one thing at a time.”
“You… are supposed to go down… to personnel. That is on the first… floor. There’s a great big sign that says… personnel. Do.. you… under… stand?”
“Where’s Carolyn? Mouse brown hair, gives you a headache. -Talks like she’s chewing her face? – That’s her.”

So did you and Annie hold hands and jump up and down in a circle when you heard this?

Ah I got all excited Charisma Carpenter was going to be on a new show! :-p. Been rewatching Buffy(and season 2 of Angel) so I’m in my ‘I love Charisma Carpenter” mode to the extreme, lol.

I had Adventures In Babysitting in mind when I read this. Brain fail, but now I want a new show based on that. Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead makes me think of my off-broadway play about a brother ratting out another brother, Don’t Tell Mom The Unabomber’s Ted.

I only care about this if Charisma Carpenter is actually in it. You know what would be great? A tv show with Holly Marie Combs, CC, and Jennie Garth. I’d love for them to be coworkers or neighbors or something.

      WIN.

I like the premise of this show. Don’t hate on ABC Family movies! I’ve actually liked a few of them (Lucky 7, This Time Around, The One…).

Don’t forget I Want to Marry Ryan Banks.
