'Flipping Out' recap: The return of Jeff Lewis

Flippin-Out-baby_320.jpg Last night marked the return of Flipping Out, the reality show that ostensibly about renovating homes — but is clearly about star Jeff’s obsessive compulsions and the kooky staff who are simultaneously nutcases and saints to put up with him.

To mark a fourth round of the bonkers that’s to come, I present you with the top five craziest moments from last night’s premiere:

5. Sarah, an executive assistant, thought she was actually Jeff’s executive business partner: “We haven’t really discussed what an executive business partner is. It’s just someone that’s really important and kind of up there in the company.”

4. After asking his other executive assistant, Jenni, what her new boyfriend likes to do to her in bed (bear with me here), he asked, “Do you guys go to church and pray for the sins you committed the night before? Do you confess?”

3. A dog peed on Sarah’s head.

2. It’s safe to say that Jeff isn’t a baby person, yet he held house assistant Jett’s bundle of cuteness in a surprisingly tender way. Aww.

1. Speaking of animal excrement, Jeff punished his housekeeper Zoila for keeping doors open in the house by making her clean Stewart the cat’s poop with toilet paper—and without gloves. “I thought, what better way to remind her of her mistake than cat feces between her fingernails because that’s going to be hard to get out?”

What did you think of last night’s season premiere?

From the looks of it, the “theme” of the season is “I’ve got to fire someone – who’s it gonna be?”

    • gerilyda

I enjoyed it. Jeff’s narcissism and compulsions are hilarious. Also love the maid

  • Scout

This use to be one of my favorite reality shows – but I think I’m on overload with all the bravo shows – I’m taking a break – sorry Jeff – it had to be your show, but I’m done.

    • BFD

Didn’t Bravo used to show exceptional indie films and documentaries. Their current programming makes me wonder if they didn’t hire all the VH1 and MTV producers to come up with more ridiculous crap.

  • Az80sGuy

What EW considers a recap and I consider a recap are obviously two different things. Loved the season premiere last night. Jeff Lewis makes everything funner

    • Heidi

i strangely hope that Jeff and Jenni decide to have a baby together!! He clearly loves that girl and wants her to be happy, and thinks she’d make a great mom (remember her lizard rap for Chloe’s party?) – and he’s got some great genetics. Fatherhood could just tame his crazy!

      • Kizzy

I wholeheartedly agree!! A Jeff and Jenni baby would be gorgeous, and possibly sane.

      • Dana

Will Jenni have the baby if he fires her? Will she be his friend without a paycheck?

  • Jason h

Archana, read your first paragraph. don’t you mean “that’s” or “that is” ?

    • tony bogustello

I’ve made this same comment many times over regarding Archana’s writing on ew.com (she also does Top Chef). Sloppy writing, lack of editing, carelessness in all realms. Sad that she is considered a professional.

  • KSH

I loved it. I have missed Jeff and Jenny so much! So glad they are back!

    • sandasavi

I missed Jeff too. Glad to see Flipping Out back on Bravo. Wish they would either have a longer season of Flipping out or have two seasons a year instead of the DC and Jersey Housewives.

  • Kate

Seems like Jeff is left with no relationships but those with the people he employs. Sad…

    • Soldier

      …and all alone.

    • NAM

He has a relationship w/ someone who doesn’t want to be on the show. I love Jeff L. He rocks my world.

    • Kizzy

Jeff does have a “partner” in his life. He won’t be featured on the show though (his choice). Make no mistake – – Jeff is not alone.

  • Bibi

I only watched a small part of this show and was bored. I won’t watch in the future.

  • Soldier

Ugh, Jeff Lewis. Such a downer and sour puss. What is wrong with this man? Seems to be very unhappy.

    • m1

He really is “tongue in cheek” funny-doesn’t take himself, or anyone, seriously. I think deep down he is really a loving, caring person–just hard to understand his sense of humor.

  • Anne

Why does Bravo seem so dedicated to finding the most unpleasant and pretentious people in America and putting them on TV?

    • Elizabeth

What a better named-network to put pompous blowhards on?

Yeah, I’m mentally scolded myself for leaving it on for 10 seconds to figure out what shows I’m passing up as I flip through because I’ve decided to “Shun” Bravo Dwight Schrute-Style since they’ve employed the Salahi’s.

So glad Heidi & Tim are on Lifetime now…

  • Nikki

Love him. Doesn’t anyone understand his humor?

    • a

      exactly! He is so hilarious..

    • the other Anne

I do too! He is a funny guy with some serious OCD.

    • Karate Pants

I think he’s a hard one for people to understand and I’m sure to those who only catch one or two episodes, he just seems like an abusive tyrant.
I completely adore him though, even if he is one of the sickest dudes in my ‘gay crushes’ library. Where did I see ‘hurt people hurt people’? He has a good heart though, I think that’s apparent.

    • Trinity

I know! I find him extremely hilarious!!

      • Kizzy

Beautiful person! Jeff is so funny, and deep down, a sweetheart.

  • donna

I love the show…I love Jeff…he is so funny…great show!!!!

  • Snarf

I would love to get Jeff Lewis and Nene Leaks, and Tabatha Coffey in the same room and watch what happens.

    • Janet

Love that – also Bethenny so we can get all the sharp tonhues together

      • Janet

        tongues (typo)

  • bert

I use to love this show. But I was bored yesterday.
I hate to admit it, but Ryan was one of the reasons that I watched it.

    • Aspenco

Me too. Loved Ryan, others are pretty boring. Jeff should fire the lazy maid.

    • Mel

      Couldn’t stand Ryan.

      • Janet

used to like Ryan early on, until he became a weasel that stole clients trying to reach Jeff.

    • James

Ryan is a complete and total lying, thieving rat-bastard! Jeff really loved him and his little girl and Ryan just used and abused him and sat there and lied about it the whole time. The reunion show last season was really painful to watch. I’m so glad he’s gone.

  • cb

love.love.love. jeff lewis! I came home last night and my boyf was like, “hey, there’s a new episode of Flipping Out.” Me: Duh! I knew that already!

We watched it before we went to bed and laughed our asses off.

  • vanyvrgs

Is this a recap? How lazy has EW gotten?
