Rachel Zoe literally uses the word 'literally' a lot

rachel_zoeI’m frequently criticized for saying “like” too much. And I’m sorry, but I can’t help myself! It’s not a problem in my writing, but it’s like word vomit in my speech. I have absolutely no control. (I blame growing up in the ’90s. Like, it’s totally not my fault, à la Cher Horowitz!)

Several years ago a local radio station in my hometown did a morning show competition where callers had to speak on a randomly selected topic for 30 seconds without saying “like,” “umm,” “uhh,” or anything similar. People failed miserably. (It’s hard. Trust me.) But it’s not just us mere mortals who struggle with word repetition. Jezebel released a video compilation of fashion queen Rachel Zoe repeatedly using the word “literally.” And she literally says it way too many times. (Almost 30 times in less than 90 seconds.)

What words or phrases do you use too frequently? And are you literally so excited to tune in when The Rachel Zoe Project returns tonight?

Just another vapid, stupid wh*re who has a limited vocabulary. Why do we even use the word literally? Do we go around saying, “I figuratively blew up when I found out”? Not to mention, that people use the word literally about as much as they use the word ironic correctly.

    @ Literrally Annoying.

Oh, I HATE when people misuse the word “ironic.” The other one I hate is when people incorrectly say they are “jealous” when they really mean “envious.”

Actually, I’ve discovered that I use the word “actually” a lot. Sometimes I have to edit written comments because I’ve used the word in successive sentences. It’s a bad habit that I’ve fallen into and am trying to shake.

I prefer the repetition of seriously in Grey’s Anatomy during Seasons 1 & 2. It was great for a few years and then they abandoned it (just like I did the show).

  • Adda Girl

Or my colleague saying “do you know what I’m saying” every other phrase… That is way too often!

    • Chappel

Could be worse. I hate when people say “do you feel me?”. Every time I have to fight the urge to reply “why the f*** would I want to feel you?”.

Or let me make sure I understand

My boss uses the phrase “Makes sense right?” all the time. This is so annoying because its really difficult to say “No, it doesn’t make sense.” So you’re always stuck saying yes or mumbling some weak kind of no. It’s a trap and he says it like every other sentence.

Yeah, Melinda, actually the word actually is way overused these days. If you actually listen to interviews you’ll hear it used an awful lot, actually. It actually makes me a little nutty.

Love it. I searched for overuse of actually and found this. It really annoys me that I have to be subjected to people in the media using actually in almost every other sentence — and 99% of the time unnecessarily.

  • Stacie Sunshine

I love her and AdultDatingLovers was amazing

  • Madd

    pronounced “lit-trally”.
