FX renews Louis C.K.'s 'Louie' for a second season

louie-ckImage Credit: Eric Leibowitz/FX“Your father’s dead,” but the good news is that FX has renewed Louis C.K.’s half-hour comedy/cringe-fest Louie for 13 more episodes. Oh, joy! Rapture! Television has a brain! Way to go, FX (F—ing Xcellent). At the risk of sounding insensitive, this news makes me want to party down. (Too soon? Yes.)

My favorite scene so far was Louie’s reluctant attempt at serious acting in the presence of Matthew Broderick in last week’s “Heckler/Cop Movie.” However, as I’ve taken to closing my eyes, snapping, and swaying (while remaining seated of course) in what could tentatively be called a “groove” whenever the opening titles come on, maybe technically my favorite thing about the show is the theme song. “Louie, Louie, Louie, Lou-eee…”

New show tonight: 11 p.m. ET. Watch it! There have only been six episodes, which means that in less than three hours on Hulu, you can become a proprietary, possibly smug overlord of a cool show that is definitely not about to get canceled. That’s almost never the case! Get in there.

What’s been your favorite Louie moment so far?

How you can go with anything but the poker game conversation as the high point of this show is beyond me….

    • m

Sorry, but I have to agree that his attempt at serious acting and that whole scene with Matthew Broderick was so much funnier simply for its sheer awkwardness.

    • GB

I agree. The opening poker bit was the hardest ive laughed at television in a long time!

    • Erik

I have Poker Game as #2

I have the whole Heckler scenario as #1. It was just SO uncomfortable it was delicious.

      (Acting is #3 for me.)

  • Ceballos

    Great news.

I’ve only seen three episodes On Demand over the last three days (can’t wait to check out “Heckler/Cop Movie”), but I love that the show “goes there”, and Louis C.K. is absolutely brilliant in it.

I don’t know why, but my favorite moment (other than the ridiculously catchy theme song) is when he kissed that cop in “South.” I mean the guy just really wanted a kiss, and the way it was done was bizarrely sweet.

    • JV

I agree with the kiss. It was weird, but after all the stuff that had gone on with the guy’s sister being “a big fan of yours”, Louie seemed to grateful to getting out of the situation with just the kiss. Left me grinning!

      • Ceballos

What I liked was that even though he was understandably confused, he didn’t act grossed out or anything.

And the kiss itself was perfectly done. (It wasn’t a quick cop out of a peck, but it also wasn’t extended to try to make it funnier.)

(Ok, I’ve clearly thought about that scene too much.)

      • Brian

        100% agreed, Ceballos.

      • Brian

Wait, I mean I’m agreed with your analysis of the kiss, not that you overthought it. You thought it just right.

    • JV

Also liked each part of his date from the second episode I think – the strange neighbor lady next door to the date, the bathroom incident in the pizza place, and Louie’s attempt to kiss the girl.

FX cancells the incrediable and thought provoking (not to mention Emmy winner) “Damages” and keeps this show – only goes to show that even cable shows crap (even over top notch quality) Sad day :(

    • the ratings for damages were absolutely awful and with the high priced cast and location, there was no way to financially justify keeping it. i love the show and i’m glad it’s continuing, but you have to look at the numbers and be realistic.

    • Ceballos

To kind of piggyback on what … said regarding the high cost of “Damages”, it seems as if “Louie” comparatively costs about a couple of hundred bucks to put together.

    • DW

Damages also gets two more seasons via DirecTV, so stop whining.

The doctor scene with Ricky Gervais was priceless!! ;)
“That has got to be the worst penis ….in the world!”

  • When the show is “on”, it’s one of the funniest things on TV, bar none. Love how fearless he is. But the show’s a little inconsistent. Either it’s brilliant or it’s really awful. I will 100% be watching the rest of the season + season two, but I hope it evens out by then.

    • Barry

Totally agree. The doctor scene with Gervais is one of the funniest things I’ve seen on TV in recent memory, other than the Lost finale. But, like the Lost finalie, the episode where the mother shows up with a hot young bride was awful, like Lost, but not awful in a good way.

  • Iowajay

I liked the scenes with Ricky Gervais as his doctor pal and the scene where he was sleeping with the younger girl yelling out stuff about how old he was… “I remember when you could smoke on a plane!”

    • Ceballos

      “I voted for Dukakis.”
“I don’t even know who that is!”

  • JB

I still think the bus getting stranded in Harlem and calling the limos is hilarious.

To the person that hates the show, I can only say you must have poor taste in tv, because the show is not only actually funny, but incredibly interesting on multiple levels.

The ending of the heckler episode was great. After having the entire show be about Louie taking direction and being unable to fulfill expectations (from the heckler or Matthew Broderick) you have this meta moment of Louie, the director, telling the actress playing the heckler what to say.

  • Ramo

Great news. This show has been one of the highlights of my summer TV viewing. Hilariously offensive. Louis CK rules.

  • BHM1304

His doctor the a-hole played by Ricky Gervais was my favorite scene so far. This is the funniest show on television, thank god this came to be as those m-f-ing idiots at Starz gave up on the previous holder of that crown “Party Down”. Its going to be sad when Louis CK doesn’t get his deserved Emmy nomination next year…….

    • Daniel Skinner

Well they haven’t not nominated him yet – let all think happy Louie thoughts!

  • greg

The lines from the “younger gir” were totally dirty, offensive and funny. I instantly became a fan.

  • joe

I never get bored watching people suffer those ‘awkward’ moments. And Louis is a zen Guru master of the ‘awk’. The new Larry David per-say. Can’t wait for more.

  • bob

the scene in the hallway with the old lady flasher was hilarious.

  • bob

also the scene when ricky gervais. that is the worst penis i have ever seen, it looks like you have been sucked off by a dog and it kind of gnawed on it a bit.

  • chilliguy

When he was on a first date with a middle class and average looking woman, and she had a helicopter waiting in case she needed to get away quickly.

Louie and the fat guy scrunched together screaming their lungs out in the plane!
