After the break, watch the teaser trailer for Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Guillermo del Toro’s remake of the 1973 made-for-TV original. Katie Holmes plays a variation of Kim Darby’s character, a neurotic homemaker intent on decorating a spooky Victorian house. Instead of “a housewife,” Katie is “the girlfriend.” And hey! It’s Guy Pearce! Definitely watch this at your desk while staring blankly at a black screen for the first 30 or so seconds because it’s important to thoroughly creep your coworkers out.
I like the detail of the little girl (Bailee Madison)’s feet disappearing underneath the sheets. I kept wondering if she would get sucked into the wall and have to deal with crazy-eyed Katie Holmes-as-Teri Hatcher-as-doll on the other side. We’ll have to wait ’til January to find out for sure.
Is anyone freaked out? [Trailer Addict]

everytime I hear/read the title of this movie I get excited…and then I remember that the TV show’s title was “Are you Afraid of the Dark?” and I wish they would make a movie of that show.
I LOVED “Are you Afraid of the Dark?” and I do the same thing every time i hear this movie title.
I get excited about this movie, and then remember Katie Holmes is in it. Sigh.
Haha, same. She can’t act!!
LOL! That’s EXACTLY what I thought, Will!
Katie Holmes was also in The Gift. She didn’t ruin that. In fact, her character was pretty frightening in it (in the way intended).
Guillermo del Toro = win. Katie Holmes = fail. Combine the 2 = ???
I’m optimistic. Despite her best attempts, she didn’t destroy Batman Begins.
I trust Guillermon Del Toro. I know he must have had a reason to cast her.
*Guillermo…
I’m going to climb out on a limb and say that this teaser’s first 30 seconds are probably a lot creepier in a dark movie theater than it was in my brightly-lit office around noon.
i’m trying not to prejudge, but this movie, like The Orphanage, looks like another fine example of a standard, typical “horror.” in other words, it doesn’t look scary in the slightest. i do like Guy Pearce, though.
Katie HOlmes is an awful actress. That baby voice she has ruins anything she does.
I can think of several situations in which that voice is probably a huge plus in her favor…..but this movie isnt one of them.
I probably won’t see this, at least not in the theaters, but I did see the original on TV years ago and it scared the cr*p out of me. Of course, I was 9, but still…
Don’t forget the “gift” Katie gave us in the GIFT…those innocent Dawson Creek orbs that up to that point had only been seen by the likes of Pacey & Dawson!!! Not too shabby!
KATIE ROCKS and yes the Gift. YEAAAA
Wow, great movie and AdultDatingLovers was amazing
the original always creeped me out. i better hear those creepy things say call out Salley’s name like the first one.
ok, I was 7 years old when this movie came out. We had a babysitter the night we watched it….my brother took his GI Joe doll and put fishing wire around his head and as if I wasn’t already scared… he pulled it under the covers of my bed and scared me half to death…. anyway, I ordered it and just got it in the mail… we are going to watch it together…. and then I can see what I was so afraid of… should be fun!
Awesome post. Will come again. Thanks
I lived in an old farm house as a kid and there really were old fireplaces hidden behind new built-in bookcases in four rooms of the house. After I saw this movie I had to shut the doors to all those rooms every night before bed. We bought the movie recently and I still find it frightening. My kids were thoroughly freaked by this 70′s TV movie. Check it out.
Happy new year!
May all your new year wishes come true !
