The trailer for Trust, a film about a father (Clive Owen) who strikes back when his teen daughter becomes the victim of a sexual predator she met online, may catch some people by surprise when it flashes the words “Directed by David Schwimmer.” After all, this is the Friends star who made his feature directorial debut with Run, Fatboy, Run. But Trust is something Schwimmer had been plotting for years. “I’ve been on the board of the Rape Foundation for many, many years and have learned a lot firsthand with the child victims of sexual predators, and from talking and visiting with the FBI,” Schwimmer told EW in 2008. ”I think it’s a public health issue, and I have been thinking of this movie for the last three years….” Watch the trailer below.

That looks like it’ll be a really good movie.
No offense to Schwimmer’s skills as a director, but it really is unnecessarily jarring to have the “Directed by David Schwimmer” graphic at the end of the trailer for a violent thriller.
Schwimmer just isn’t established enough as a director to merit that placement. In fact, that fact that he’s obviously most well known for “Friends” makes the mention confusing and unintentionally funny.
Agreed. It made me laugh when it came up.
Poor guy doesn’t get enough credit. Playing Ross (no matter how great he was in that role) will always have a negative stigma associated with it.
David Schwimmer co-wrote and co-directed a stage version of screenplay of Trust a few months ago at the Lookingglass Theatre in Chicago (a theatre company he co-founded). He’s obviously extremely behind the source material for the film/play. The reviews for the play version were mostly positive saying that he took a little too much on in the play but the story itself was a good, serious, updated take on what could have played out like a bad PSA/after-school special.
Side note: does Millennium Pictures go out of their way to make the crappiest trailers for their films?
Trailer has been removed because of a copyright violation. Can’t watch it.
I can’t help but think that if Schwimmer knew as much about young victims of sexual crimes he’d know that the whole internet predator is by far the least likely scenario, but the one that resonates most with, say, TV news. Mostly it’s adults that the kid has other reasons to “trust”: coaches, friends of family, relatives, step-parents. We’re so busy as a society worrying about these stranger-sexual predators that we do little to arm kids for what to do with the more common crimes, such as how to say no to a long-trusted adult, who often tells the child that if they tell their parents, the parent will believe the adult and not the child.
In the past internet predators were less likely but with more children on the net for longer periods of time it is becoming a reality. My 6-year old can find YouTube without help. I monitor what my kids do online but I still worry about someone stalking them. It is too easy for information to get out. Not that I don’t monitor their coaches and Scout leaders and music instructors. If you interact with my child, in person or online, expect me to get to know you well.
Bierly’s (misplaced and unnecessary) snarkiness re: “Run Fatboy Run” makes me think she hasn’t actually seen the movie. Not Oscar-worthy for sure, but I was pleasantly surprised by it.
I know what you mean, Jane! “Run, Fatboy, Run” is a fun and sweet movie with Simon Pegg. What’s not to like?
I just saw Run Fatboy Run the other day on cable and I have fallen in love with it. No it’s not the best movie ever made but it was really really good and entertaining. Loved it!
no trailer?
I can’t wait to see this film, I know David has a great committment to rape victims and their fammilies. The subject matter is so timely.
I agree with those who said Run Fat boy Run was funny, sweet and Charming. I admire David, and will always follow his work, can’t wait to see Trust and I hope it is great success for him.
Love Ross and AdultDatingLovers was great
