Image Credit: Tom Hauck/Getty Images; Tom Walck/PR PhotosLast night, Brett Favre told the Minnesota Vikings that he would not be playing in the upcoming 2010 season, citing an ankle injury as his reason for backing out. Really? We’re doing this again? The 40-year-old QB is no stranger to abandoning his team in the lead-up to the season. In 2008, he “retired” from the Green Bay Packers, only to be traded to the New York Jets. A year later, he “retired” once again, but then decided to play for the Vikings at the last minute. Are we all seeing the pattern here? Now I don’t know whether it’s Favre’s ankle or his ego that’s more swollen, but for whatever reason, the man doesn’t like to stay put for very long. Seriously, he’s becoming a more prolific retiree than Cher!
So I’m wondering, PopWatchers: Who is the biggest serial-retiree out there? Of all the celebrities that have supposedly retired, only to make their “comeback” a few months later, who is the most egregious offender? Vote in the poll below:

EW, please don’t talk about sports. Stick to what you know best.
Favre is at least as big a diva as Cher, so I’d say this particular post is fine.
The Eagles should have been in the poll. They would have won by a landslide.
in an article about football, mentioning The Eagles is bit confusing…
He just doesn’t want to go to training camp, it’s what he always does..He creates drama so the players IN TRAINING CAMP don’t cry foul for having to be their. Then when its all done….., “hey! I’m back!”. The guy lives in a farm! Look at the time table! It was never about the attention, it was about not wanting to work too hard, which is what they do in training camp..
This guy has really ruined the legacy he built for himself.
You forgot Streisand.
I’ve had to sit through “Favre Watch” for the past 3 off-seasons on NFL Network. Favre is the worst by far. BTW, there has NOT been an “official” announcment yet. And since he’s cried wolf SOOOO many times, I’m not going to believe he’s retired until an entire season has gone by and he hasn’t played.
@Samantha – I totally agree. His wishy-washyness has left his legacy tarnished indeed.
Cher NEVER retired, first and foremost. She stopped touring. There’s a difference. Go back and watch/listen to any interview, she said it numerous times…she’s not RETIRING. Ugh.
Brett Favre is a never ending saga, and I don’t mean that in a good way.
For the past few years, I have called my fantasy football team “Stop Dragging My Favre Around” because I am so gosh darned SICK of this guy. Retire for good, please, so I can change my name. Right now just my team name keeps the other FFBL team managers from uttering his name.
The Brat Favre saga IS entertainment. The Char (er. Cher) saga is a nightmare. But both should be ended for good ASAP. (Of course, if they insist on continuing their ways, perhaps their managers could try a trade–Favre to Vegas and Cher to the Vikings. Then the end would be in sight!!!!!)
