Image Credit: Michael Caulfield/Getty Images; FoxRicky Gervais is making a return trip to Springfield! The co-creator and star of The Office will lend his voice to an episode of The Simpsons this coming season, EW.com has learned. Gervais—who wrote 2006′s “Homer Simpson, This is Your Wife,” in addition to guest-starring in it as a brownbeaten husband who appears with Marge and Homer on a reality series—pops up this time as himself in an early 2011 installment that brings Homer and Bart to L.A. for the Oscars. (Gervais is not penning the episode.) Jon Hamm, Paul Rudd, Daniel Radcliffe, Hugh Laurie, and Martha Stewart are among the other celebrities getting animated in season 22, which begins Sept. 26 on Fox.

The Simpsons will live forever. I’m glad they didn’t have RG doing the same character again, because that would’ve been a huge stretch. But Albert Brooks and Jon Lovitz have each played several different unrelated characters (they usually refer to the others each time Lovitz returns)
Please put this show out of its misery. It hasn’t been funny since season 12.
I find fewer episodes instantly memorable during the last several seasons, but on second and third viewings, they grow on me. There are differences in the show though–less of it is like traditional sitcoms, and the stories often take strange turns, but I enjoy it as much now as ever overall.
Can we retire the phrase “It hasn’t been funny since season __” please? At this point it’s stupid to say. It’s meaningless.
Glad to hear this but it’s too bad they couldn’t have the old character return- that episode was a gem and as far as I can remember the Simpsons hasn’t created a good recurring character in years
As long as it keeps making $$$ for Fox, The Simpsons ain’t going anywhere.
Hey EW you forgot that the cast of Glee also going to be on that season!
Woo-hoo!
Can’t wait for the new treehouse of horror. I love those episodes.
