Comic-Con: Johnny Depp teases fourth 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie

johnny-deppImage Credit: Peter MountainIn a surprise prerecorded video following Disney’s Tron: Legacy panel at Comic-Con, Johnny Depp appeared on-screen in his Captain Jack Sparrow costume to tease the fourth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Depp promised that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will feature “zombies, cutthroats, mermaids, and the vicious and vivacious Penélope Cruz.” The film is due May 2011, and if the reception from the crowd at Comic-Con to Depp’s brief appearance is any indication, enthusiasm for the franchise remains strong.

del-toro-haunted-mansionImage Credit: Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage.com; DisneyIn a surprise appearance following Disney’s TRON: Legacy presentation at Comic-Con, director Guillermo del Toro announced he will be developing a new big-screen adaptation of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride. Unlike the 2003 movie version of Haunted Mansion, which starred Eddie Murphy, del Toro said the live-action film will not be a comedy (“We are not returning Eddie Murphy’s calls,” del Toro said to applause), but instead will be “scary and fun at the same time …. if you take the children, they will scream.” Del Toro said he has visited the Haunted Mansion ride many times since he was a kid, describing it as “a place where I go when I need to think and to relax.” The director, who recently announced he would not be directing The Hobbit, described the Haunted Mansion project as “a dream come true.” He will produce and co-write the film, and may direct as well.

'Jackass 3-D': Pretend there's a plot. What's happening here?

Categories: Movies, Shenanigans!

jackass-3dThe first official image from Jackass 3-D has hit the Web, and it’s of Johnny Knoxville riding a jet ski off a ramp while wearing a tux. I’m sure this moment is central to the plot of the film. Perhaps there was a wedding held at a Malibu mansion the night before, and Knoxville’s character slept with a woman who’s leaving this morning on a yacht with her rich, elderly husband. He needs to stop her. Luckily, there just happened to be this jet ski and water ramp in the backyard, so he’s decided to propel himself over the cliff and into the water below.

Your guess?

Happy Birthday Selena Gomez! You’re Finally 18!

Categories: Celebrity Birthdays

Selena-GomezImage Credit: Bob Charlotte/PR PhotosSome of us have been watching Selena Gomez ever since she appeared on Barney & Friends, but not many people knew who this up-and-coming pop princess was until just recently. Gomez turns a young 18 today, but still has achieved more than I have in my life so far! (Seems to be a trend in Hollywood today…Sad trombone for me!) So, in celebration, let’s take a look at the stand-out moments of her career that make me feel bad about my own accomplishments: READ FULL STORY »

Danny Trejo is out for blood in 'Vengeance' red band trailer

In Vengeance, Machete star Danny Trejo stars as a blood-hungry cop out to get the killers responsible for the death of his wife and daughter. With rapper 50 Cent and former wrestler Dallas Paige as co-stars, the flick doesn’t exactly boast an acclaimed cast, but there’s definitely potential. The whole thing feels like a retrofitted version of Charles Bronson’s run-and-gun Death Wish series, thanks to those cheesy baseball bat-wielding villains. (But that’s hardly a bad thing, now that Death Wish is a cult classic.) Check out the trailer and let us know if you think Vengeance could follow suit.

'SYTYCD': The screaming for Kent must stop, ladies

sytycd-kentImage Credit: Mathieu Young/FoxIs it possible that the girls in the So You Think You Can Dance pit who love them some Kent are more annoying than the Idol Swaybots? I really didn’t want host Cat Deeley to encourage them last night. I can see where she and the producers would think it helps the at-home audience to feel the energy there, but really, it just makes me want to not vote for Kent so I don’t have to hear the squealing next week. It’s at the point where it’s overshadowing his talent, so even when the audience goes crazy when he’s actually dancing, I have to wonder if, say, last night’s step routine with tWtich was really that amazing — or if it’s just great and he still has that killer smile. I’m not saying I don’t believe in loud audience participation. I’m just saying it should only come during or after performances (like ballet dancer Alex’s now legendary hip-hop routine with tWitch). Or when a move is so brilliant you want to rewind it 10 times (like Lauren riding tWitch off the stage in their high-noon themed hip-hop number last night, embedded below).  READ FULL STORY »

'Stone': Milla Jovovich steals the trailer from De Niro and Norton?!

I know Stone is, by all reasonable estimations, being billed as a Robert De Niro-Edward Norton thriller. But you won’t judge me if I’m equally excited about the prospect of seeing Milla Jovovich sink her teeth into a role that’s a little meatier than Alice from the Resident Evil series, will you? Watch the new trailer for the Oct. 8 drama below before you head down to the comments and tell me I’m a crazy person. Yes, yes, there’s something a little cliched about the “days before his retirement…weeks until his parole…a moment away from the biggest mistake of their lives” theme. But you can’t judge a film by its tagline, and the trailer leaves enough questions unanswered that I’m more than moderately intrigued. You? READ FULL STORY »

'Black Swan' set to grace Venice Film Festival, four actors join Paul Rudd's 'My Idiot Brother'

excess-hollywood

  • Darren Aronofsky’s thriller Black Swan, which stars Natalie Portman, will open the Venice Film Festival. The film plots the rivalry between two ballerinas. Been there, done that. [Reuters]
  • Hugh Dancy, Kathryn Hahn, Shirley Knight, and Janet Montgomery are the latest to join the comedy My Idiot Brother, which stars Paul Rudd as a man “who upends the lives” of his three sisters, who are portrayed by Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer, and Elizabeth Banks. Knight will appear as Rudd’s mother, while Dancy will play a friend of Rudd’s sister. Hahn will play Rudd’s ex, who surely would have stayed with him had she gotten a taste of a little Sex Panther. [Variety]
  • Gael Garcia Bernal is set to star in The Loneliest Planet, about a couple whose relationship is tested after they hire a guide to help them trudge through isolated wilderness. Why they didn’t consult Lonely Planet instead is beyond me. It’s all there in the title! [Deadline]
  • October Road‘s Warren Christie will star alongside David Strathairn on Syfy’s Alphas pilot, which centers on a team of ordinary citizens who attempt to solve cases with their extraordinary smarts. The actor will play a new recruit named Christian Hicks, which kind of looks like Christina Hendricks when you skim the article quickly, but Christie’s not that good. [Deadline]

Halle Berry steps up to star in 'Shoe Addicts Anonymous'

Halle-BerryImage Credit: Bob Charlotte/PR PhotosLadies, ever wish you could raid Halle Berry’s closet? (Of course, we’d all leave the Catwoman suit well enough alone, right?) Well, for some as-of-yet unannounced actresses, that dream will come true: Deadline reports that Berry is set to lead an ensemble cast in the film adaptation of Beth Harbison’s best-selling novel Shoe Addicts Anonymous. British director Paul Weiland will helm the movie, written by Kristen Buckley and Brian Regan (How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days).

The novel follows four Chicago women who all wear size 7.5 shoes and trade looks. Filming is set to start later this year, so it looks like you won’t have to wait for Sex and the City 3 to see some awesome footwear on the big screen. But if you were to steal one Halle Berry look, which would it be?
