'Predators' sequel: Your ideas?

Categories: Comic-Con, Movies, Sexytimes

predators-brody-bragaImage Credit: Rico TorresRobert Rodriguez has confirmed what anyone who saw Predators concluded from the ending — he’s hoping to do a sequel. At Comic-Con, Rodriguez told IGN that Fox had asked him to keep the recent release, which was directed by Nimród Antal, “pretty contained, pretty scaled-back,” because they only wanted to set up the new world the trained killing machines (including Adrien Brody and Alice Braga, pictured) were dropped on as prey. A second film would be bigger, crazier.

Rodriguez said he expects to soon be hearing pitches from writers. (He hasn’t  yet responded to EW’s calls for comment regarding what he hopes to see in a sequel.) But what would you like to see happen in the sequel? SPOILER ALERT! READ FULL STORY »

'Jersey Shore': I got a spray-tan with Snooki and J-Woww!

By now we all know that the Jersey Shore kids love a nice trip to the tanning salon. Well, now I kinda do, too. Back in May, I was lucky enough to travel down to Miami and spend two days with The Situation, Snooki, J-Woww, and their pals while they shot season 2 of MTV’s huge hit.

The second morning, we (I was accompanied by Jersey Shore‘s executive producer Sally Ann Salsano) followed Snooki and J-Woww on a gym and tanning trip (basically GT minus the L). J-Woww definitely got her workout on, but Snooki seemed a little less dedicated as evidenced by her cocktail in hand while on the treadmill and bunny slippers covering her feet. But then came the tanning salon. Now full confession: I’m half Irish and have the skin tone of a leprechaun. But with a little prodding from Snooki (I believe the sentence “You’ll look so much sexier” was bandied about), I had my first spray tan. And, um, I kinda loved the results. READ FULL STORY »

Joss Whedon directing 'Avengers': A great choice, and a tall order

the-avengers-comicImage Credit: The Avengers: © Marvel ComicsI’ve always been wary of an Avengers movie, but I never could put my finger on exactly why. Then, last week, LeBron James took his “talents to South Beach” to form an unprecedented basketball superteam, and I now totally understand my original misgivings. James shouldn’t be in the same uniform as new teammates Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, soaring past, through, and over mere basketball mortals from New York, Cleveland, or Toronto. In sports, as in physics, heavenly bodies like superstars are supposed to attract their own satellites. Instead, James’ Jupiter is about to collide with Wade’s Saturn. It’s simply unnatural.

Ditto The Avengers. READ FULL STORY »

This Week on Stage: Get a jump on TKTS lines with the new iPhone app

connick-jr-broadwayImage Credit: Jeffrey Ufberg/WireImage.com; Connick Jr: Albert L Ortega/PR PhotosIs there any chance of getting a last-minute discount ticket to Harry Connick Jr.’s concert at Broadway’s Neil Simon Theatre tonight? Usually, you’d have to brave the lines at the TKTS booth in Times Square to find out — and that means coping with the throngs of tourists (and the weather) on the chance that you might end up disappointed and ticketless. But not anymore. Davenport Media Entertprises has just launched the ingenious At the Booth app for the iPhone (available on iTunes for 99 cents), which lists all the Broadway and Off Broadway shows and discount rates that TKTS has available each day. The listings are updated just as they are on the big boards in Times Square — and at the TKTS satellite outposts in downtown Brooklyn and at the South Street Seaport. (UPDATE: The nonprofit Theatre Development Fund, which runs the TKTS booths, was surprised by the announcement of Davenport’s new app. Exec director Victoria Bailey reports that TDF/TKTS is beta-testing its own official app and plans on a September launch with live feeds of ticket availability and line lengths.)

Granted, you don’t need an app to tell you that you won’t be able to get cheap last-minute tickets for perpetual sell-outs like Wicked and Jersey Boys. But it’s a godsend if you have your heart set on seeing a production that only pops up occasionally on the TKTS boards, like Connick’s limited-run concert series, Mary Poppins, or the Tony-winning La Cage aux Folles revival. It may be the best thing to happen to New York theater since, well, the introduction of the TKTS booth. Don’t you agree?

'A Very Potter Musical' has a sequel, and it's online!

For those of you unlucky enough to never have stumbled upon the joyous experience that is A Very Potter Musical, let me fill you in. In 2009, group of students from the University of Michigan that call themselves Team StarKid created a full, two-act, originally-scored musical based on the Harry Potter universe. In a word, it’s brilliant. A simultaneous love-letter and spoof of the bespectacled wizard’s journey through Hogwarts, A Very Potter Musical featured a tap-dancing Voldemort, a Southern belle Cho Chang, songs such as “Granger Danger” and “Get Back to Hogwarts,” and a Zac Efron poster-turned-Horcrux. The video series became an internet phenomenon, garnering millions of views on YouTube and helping leading man, Darren Criss, earn a role on ABC’s now-defunct Eastwick. (He also just released a new EP, that’s selling quite well on iTunes.)

Imagine my excitement, then, when I logged onto YouTube this morning, to find that A Very Potter Sequel had just posted online! READ FULL STORY »

'Royal Pains': Looking forward to Evan being a whore again

Categories: Television, TV Recap

royal-painsImage Credit: David Giesbrecht/USA NetworkOn last night’s episode of Royal Pains, Evan (Paulo Costanzo) agreed to be a young woman’s “faux beau” for cash. Paige (Drop Dead Diva‘s Deb, Brooke D’Orsay) needed to send her wealthy parents photos of her and her boyfriend and didn’t think they’d respond well to her much older real beau (Peter Strauss). Cue Evan’s Pretty Woman-style makeover and him actually falling for her. I thought the writers could’ve taken the Pretty Woman references one-step further and have him leave the cash on his car seat when she dropped him off, but that would’ve revealed his feelings too soon. Now that her parents want to meet Evan in-person — apparently for a hunting trip, pictured, in the Aug. 5 episode — the writers can have Paige unknowingly torture Evan more with pretend scenarios. With Paige’s boyfriend out of the picture (he didn’t appreciate being a secret), what reason do you think the show will give for ultimately tearing these two apart? Or will they? USA confirms D’Orsay will be in at least seven episodes this season. READ FULL STORY »

Stop the presses! Carnie Wilson leaves 'The Newlywed Game'...and I'm the only one who cares.

Carnie-Wilson-Leaves-The-Newlywed-GameImage Credit: GSNI love the Game Show Network. I realize this is a bold statement coming from someone (way) under the age of 50. But in the two weeks after I graduated college, I literally sat on the couch all day every day watching GSN. I can’t help it! I’m obsessed with reruns of the classics ($25,000 Pyramid, Password, Card Sharks etc.), and I’m even a fan of some of the new shows (just try and give me a Lingo puzzle I can’t solve). So when the news broke that Carnie Wilson would be leaving her post as host of GSN’s The Newlywed Game, I had some mixed emotions.

My first feeling was one of joy. Have you seen GSN’s recent revival of the show? It pales in comparison to the days of Bob Eubanks. The questions are just downright silly. (Yes, even sillier than they used to be, if you can imagine that.) And there’s this ridiculous tie-in to eHarmony’s 29 dimensions of compatibility. I know we live in the digital age, but there’s no need to ruin a classic game show with 29 dimensions. So with Wilson out, I make a plea to the powers that be: Bring back Bob!

My second feeling was one of worry. (The kind of worrying I do about TV, not the real kind of worrying.) People reports that GSN plans to announce a new host “in the near future.” Who could this possibly be? READ FULL STORY »

Joan Rivers returns to late-night on Letterman

Joan Rivers, the one-time late-night regular who was seemingly banished after she deigned to challenge Johnny Carson with her own show in 1986, made the most of her time with David Letterman last night, taking swipes at Lindsay Lohan, Mel Gibson, and “what’s his name — the one that’s not funny…Leno.” Rivers, who has appeared as a guest on Letterman, Jimmy Fallon and Conan O’Brien in recent years, even brought along some of the ashes of her deceased husband Edgar to celebrate the occasion.  READ FULL STORY »

Comic-Con: Should more stars come dressed in costume?

will-ferrell-megamindImage Credit: John Shearer/Getty ImagesThere’s always a debate about which movies and TV shows really deserve a trip to Comic-Con, and which ones are simply taking advantage of the crowd to promote themselves. Seeing shots of Will Ferrell appearing at the Megamind panel dressed as his animated character made me think coming in costume would be a great way for stars to show their commitment to the spirit of the event. I’m only 90 percent joking.

'Inception' cast and crew talk about their dreams...or lack thereof

inception-box-officeImage Credit: Stephen VaughanSo have your dreams gotten really screwy since seeing Inception? I saw the film last month to prepare for this week’s cover story, and then I saw it again last weekend when it opened. Both times, for days afterwards, my dreams have felt even more vivid and bizarre and wake up sitting bolt-up right in bed-esque than normal. (And my “normal” is usually rather peculiar as it is.)

After my first round of freakish post-Inception phantasmagoria, I had to know if the people who actually made Inception have had similar experiences. So I asked Leonardo DiCaprio, Christopher Nolan, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon Levitt and a few other folks involved in the movie, and their answers were definitely not what I was expecting:

Leonardo DiCaprio: Ironically, I don’t remember my dreams very well. I only remember specific images or feelings, but I don’t remember whole storylines, just fragments of them. READ FULL STORY »
