The one change Idol needs to make is to LIMIT THE NUMBER OF VOTES ALLOWED!!!
Let me guess, your guy didn’t win, so it is the voting. everyone is given the same opportunity to vote for their favorite. It is obvious the lazy fans complain because their guy didn’t win. This is a reality show. I for one didn’t care for a couple of winners throughout the seasons, but I don’t keep crying about it. Need to get a life.
I’m just happy that Ellen is leaving AI. I used to watch her talk show every afternoon, but had to stop because she turned it into a showcase for AI (and the Bachelor/ette), which drove me nuts. Jennifer Lopez might be a good choice for AI, but please, no Steven Tyler. Ugh, I met him once and he was one of the most obnoxious, rude individuals I’ve ever had the misfortune of encountering. The thought of him on TV every week with that arrogant attitude just makes my skin crawl.
Not to mention he looks like an autopsy. They could have Mick Jagger and Keith Richards mentor and it would be like Night Of The Living Dead.
Toxic/Glimmer, I love it. Great band name, too.
The above post was a response to a different post which has been deleted for some reason.
TO DISGRUNTLED REDHEAD – I’m sorry you had a bad meeting with Steven Tyler. I’ve met him a few times myself, (my old job kept me on the periphery of the Boston music scene) and I must say I found him to be a really great guy. It’s interesting how two people can have the same experience, but wildly different feelings about it.
I rewatched Jennifer Lopez with the Season 6 American Idol group and she was great. But we have to remember that Ellen was great also when it was pre-taped and not during the live shows. Not saying that she can’t do it, because if Paula Abdul can do it then anyone with a coherent thought can. Steven Tyler coming on board just screams disaster. I think they should keep Kara. They need some stability from last year to this year and Randy and Ryan just don’t provide that for me. Ryan probably had his worst year last year. Either way AI is going to be really strange come next year.

look.ellen was a terrible choice, and kara want a whole lot better, she played up her favorites, and downplayed the ones she disliked, regardless of talent,or not.as far as jlo.she has creditionals.first of all.she is a performer, second of all,she was a singer, not the greatest ,but not the worst either, she also knows the business, she brings vast knowledge, proir exp with idol, and finally, easy on the eyes,so yes i am all for jlo.
idol producers are idiots if they don’t add Diddy on this show in some capacity. His critique of making the band contestants would be a welcome change of pace for Idol 2011.
Uh no not welcome. ‘Diddy’ is a hack. He just has money because he can rap (not really) and gets enough suckers to buy his crap.
Kenny Edmonds would be better than Diddy.
wow…so many haters, j.lo is the best singer, actress, dancer this buisness has ever seen. sure shes not the best singer but she knows enough about all 3 to make her the best at wat she does EVERYTHING….whoever said her career is over needs 2 get the facts….the back-up plan was a HIT and love? will be a hit …dont hate her because you aint her bitches
I think if the criteria to be a judge on American Idol is that your career has to be over, Let’s get Mel Gibson. I think he’d be an excellent judge. We could be assured that he would keep it real. And just think, if the contestant in a woman/jewish/etc..
LOL!
I’d actually watch Idol again if the producers made this happen.
Ellen left because she knows that Idol without Simon is nothing.
I don’t think this is a positive career move for Lopez.
MB – “Ellen left because she knows that Idol without Simon is nothing….”

Judges like Cowell are a dime a dozen. They have cast the “witty, ascerbic, tell it like it is” judge since the 1940s radio talent shows in the US and UK. The Japanese came along with the wise, witty, elderly ascerbic judge as their contribution to talent contests in the 1980s.
In hindsight, Cowell had largely ceased to care, try that hard, in the last 2 seasons and not worth his 45 million paycheck.
Half his value was just in playing straight man to Abduls madgirl act.
Playing next to Dioguardi, he was, as Idol writers gave him the line – “painfully ordinary”.
Jessica Simpson would be a disaster of monumental proportion, almost as bad as Kara. J-Lo would take it seriously, I think, as much as that is possible with Lythgoe back. It’ll all be smoke and mirrors this year most likely. Agree the key is to limit text-call voting. But then would they lose or gain viewers?
I’m willing to give J-Lo a chance even though I have never liked here enough to buy any of her music, and don’t go out of my way to see her movies, But if I have to look at that dead ass corpse face of Steven Tyler and listen to his brain dead nonsense I am gone for sure. No one tunes into this show to watch the judges. Find an unknown (as Simon was) who will do a good job and go on with the show.
Tyler’s drug riddled past makes him a bad fit for family oriented American Idol as one half of “The Toxic Twins”. Kids will google him and draw all of the wrong conclusions about life on addictive substances.
If Steven Tyler is in, I’m watching again. Although if they have to keep one judge, I’d take Kara over Randy (can’t believe I just said that!)
They need 3 not 4 judges that give good critiques and don’t make the show about them. I’m not sure who is the right fit, but they have to have chemistry and give intelligent helpful critiques to the contestants. Also, they have to show no favoritism toward any contestant. They need to pick a variety of artist to showcase. Above all else, if a contestant cannot sing live – they need to boot him early.
Maybe they should make a series to choose AI judges…
Until they change to voting rules the judges are irrelevant.
ITA!
The voting system has been the same for all 9 seasons. The only difference is the judges use to sway the voters. The demographics have changed and many voters can make their own inform decision. I can honestly say that I didn’t agree with the judges half the time. Judges need to critique and leave the favoritism out of it. Everyone has different taste in music. I for one can’t stand half the S..t on the radio today but it sells.
Please not Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson…J Lo is good but those three would be a horrible judges panel
i don’t think steven tyler would be a good compliment to the flow of the concept and what works for american idol. what works is seamless movement from performance to critique, to moving performance. what works is when talented people get on the show and put on a good show. it’s theatre. american idol is theatre. in the end, Jennifer is an excellent choice because she knows what note to strike to not take away attention from others…she has always succeeded in teams where her beauty and her personality had a chance to shine. as far as steven, the heavy-hitter judge has to be a sober heavy-hitter, one that can deliver constructive, logical, well-formulated critiques….like simon did sometimes. it would be nice if that person also had some good on screen personality and chemistry with randy and jennifer. randy i think should stay, but he needs a shot of adrenaline. he is a producer and has genuine credentials.
