'Sucker Punch' trailer: 'You have all the weapons you need!'

Filed under: Movies, News and tagged: , ,

sucker-punch_320.jpg Image Credit: Clay EnosWatchmen and 300 director Zack Snyder has apparently described his new movie, Sucker Punch, as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns.” And the action-packed trailer would very much seem to back up that assessment.

True, I didn’t see any waistcoat-wearing rabbits. But there’s plenty of young ladies, and machine guns, and ordinary guns, and big swords, and a fire-breathing dragon, and a burning airship. There’s also a metronome. But I guess Snyder probably thought, rightly, that describing the movie as “Alice in Wonderland with a metronome,” wasn’t such an appealing sell.

Anyway, it’s quite a trailer, if not the most enlightening one in terms of plot. Watch the clip after the break, and give us your opinion. What do you think this movie is actually about?

    so confused.

    • Downer

Yeah, what a let-down. Anyways, I would much rather watch another movie about a crazy girl sent to a mental asylum who becomes lost in her own crazy world… it’s called ‘Return to Oz’. This is just a soft to the core… porno’d version of that movie. I was actually interested in this over the past few months. Not anymore.

      • The Real Dustin

And you are called a debbie downer. You have seen aproximatly 70 seconds of footage, and 17 seconds of words. And yuou have just dismissed it as a “softcore return to oz”. Remind me, did Oz have dragons, mech robots, and lasers? Oh, right, no.

    • The Real Dustin

OH. And there was another trailer awhile back that was confusing as hell. WHat was that called….Inception? And it seems to be doing pretty well.

      • Akin

inception’s trailer wasn’t confusing. Only a retard wouldn’t understand it. Are you a retard?

This trailer is not so much confusing as it makes little sense. Or maybe I expected more

    • Ceballos

I went on the movie’s IMDb page to see if that was Tony Todd in the trailer’s first shot…and it claimed that Jon Hamm is in this!

(Lo and behold, if you pause it just right at the 20-second mark you get a darkened look at him.)

      Just sayin’

      • paige

i love your man-crush on jon hamm.. its hysterical!

      • Ceballos

The fact that I spent a solid minute trying to pause this trailer just right just so I could see if it was actually him….probably means it’s gone overboard.

  • Jacob

A nice sizzle reel, but completely useless without a story.

    • seattlejohn

I actually prefer trailers and that don’t reveal the entire plot in two minutes but gives just a taste of the film’s style and mood…and based on zack snyder’s resume of tricked-out movies this is starting to really interest me…looking like an a-list production of an anime brought to life

  • Jordan

So what, is it like a metaphorical representation of their psychiatric treatment? Their “fight to survive?”

  • Lunna

Well, the effects look pretty awesome. Now we gotta see how this mash of burlesque and planes and asylums and dragons adds up.

    • Stacie

Sometimes I welcome visual satisfaction over character depth. That’s a Zak Snyder movie!!!

  • pastafarian

    You are not prepared!

  • paige

wow i havent heard that Lord of Acid song in ages… I like Zack Snyder’s style so i’m probably gonna see this even though i have no idea what that trailer was actually about

    • Ceballos

Yeah, I like his style too but (and I said this on another board somewhere) I still think the most exciting thing Snyder’s ever done is the first 10 minutes of his “Dawn of the Dead.” Part of me hopes he puts aside the greenscreen/slo-mo stuff one day for a bit.

Still, this looks pretty interesting, even if it’s unclear what exactly is going on. (Better that than a trailer that shows WAY too much.)

  • J.G.

Usually I’d ask myself after a confounding trailer “What the hell is going on?”. Now I’m driven to ask “What the hell isn’t going on?”

  • Dylan

That lead chick is ugly. It woulda been so sweet if Amanda Seyfried & Evan Rachel Wood hadn’t bailed on this. I’m not so pumped now. I mean Vanessa Hudgens? Seriously?

    • LOL

“Ugly?” You sound like a mental midget.

      • Dylan

        Blow me.

      • Connor

Amanda Seyfried is the ugliest person I have ever seen. Emily Browning = Amazing.

I would pick a cheeseburger over a date with Seyfried.

      • jack

lol only an ugly girl would criticize you for that

    • Manx

She isn’t ugly, she’s just doesn’t have the right complexion for blonde hair

  • Laura W

It looks cool! Girl power! But I’m so confused!

    • Stacie

Someday I will invent a time machine and return to the 1990s. I will murder the Spice Girls right before their first record deal so that the term “Girl Power” is never conceived.

  • nessa

nice. looks like we will be sucked into a video game.

  • mtraptor

“You will be unprepared” is an awful tagline.

  • Hoboken Watchman

Zach Snyder has all kinds of fanboy street cred. I will see anything this man directs. He has earned my trust with “300″ and “Watchmen”. This has epic win written all over it. ZS is the future of filmmaking.

    • jack

wow you know NOTHING about film making.

      • Nathan

Why don’t you enlighten us there Mr.Godard?

  • Sam B

Look awesome! Amazing hot girls! (Confused) It’s all about Baby Doll?! Lol thought was about Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens) not.

  • MCS

I have been in love with Emily Browning since I first saw her on Australian TV even before A Series of Unfortunate Events, but even I can admit this looks terrible.

  • darclyte

I don’t care what it’s about, I’m there. And yeah, from what I’ve learned about this movie, it is more like “Return to Oz” with machine guns than Alice in Wonderland.
