Image Credit: Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesOne of the biggest stories out of Comic-Con was easily the introduction of The Avengers, Marvel Studios’ ambitious plan to tie together its various superhero movies into one omnibus superhero mega-movie. Along with presenting the entire Avengers cast, two major cinematic pieces of Marvel’s larger mythological mosaic also made their debut at Comic-Con: Captain America, starring Chris Evans (pictured, right) as a U.S. super-soldier in WWII; and Thor, starring Chris Hemsworth (pictured, left) as a Nordic god who finds himself (and his iconic hammer) cast down to Earth. Along with The Two Chrises (or is that The Two Chris’s? The Two Chrisers? Or should I go formal with The Two Christophers?), I got a chance to chat with the respective directors of both films, Joe Johnston and Kenneth Branagh – Johnston, who’s only been shooting Captain America for two weeks, even gave EW a pretty cool first look exclusive. As for the other co-stars in the film, all I can say is never hand Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings a chance to make a double entendre, because those ladies will run with it.
Check out all the interviews after the jump!
So what do you make of these two new Marvel movies, PopWatchers?

coolio, dude!
Um Chris Evans you still aren’t really impressing me. You just aren’t Captain America…….*mega sigh*
You might want to check the credits — he actually is.
Well aware that he is playing Captain America Platypus. I’m just saying that it is a MEGA letdown.
Since you haven’t seen the film, how would you know? Seriously.
I agree with Gage. He’s not a good choice. I just can’t take him seriously. Unless they’re going to go the Spiderman/Iron Man route and make Captain America kind of a lighter superhero film instead of serious like Batman, then I don’t see it working.
If they make Capitan America a lighter movie is going to SUCK. That’s my only fear.
@Gage and @Liz Lemon
watch him in the Sci-Fi film, Sunshine. He plays a very non-smartass role. He’s completely serious. He’ll pull this off beautifully just like RDJ shut up the people that didn’t like him. Even like how Heath Ledger shut up the naysayers who said he couldn’t be the Joker. He can pull the role off.
dude looks like someone’s DAD…like, receedingly old…and in need of some sun…
If you want to complain then give me someone who would be better
AHahahahahaha! Natalie and Kat were hilarious! “It was pretty average….”
SO. FUNNY. Kat seemed drunk. Most amusing Comic-Con interview of the weekend. I was cracking up with them.
Agreed. Literally LOL material.
that seems like a bad picture of chris evans. he looks weird in it.
He’s clean shaven. Usually he has some stubble.
He looks pale…like he’s been sick or something.
that’s the first thing I noticed was how pale he is.
*sigh* Chris Hemsworth is the SEX.
HE would’ve made a perfect Captain America, but I like him as Thor too.
Gotta agree.
Glad Adam dressed up for the shoot. A comb is not a bad thing.
I love Chris H…he is so hawt that hurts XD great Thor
Love the movie but BBWfriendfinder was better
I think the blond haired friend from Spartacus blood and sand would have made a good captain America.
Chris Hemsworth is so hot!
And once again I poke my tongue out at the naysayers who whinged about Chris H’s casting (though a tad hypocritically I agree with the Chris E nasysayers. Let alone looking the part, he’s already been a superhero darnit!).
And, once again, the stupidest argument against Chris Evans as Cap! Why is no one complaining that Ryan Reynolds has already played TWO Marvel characters (Hannibal King in the third “Blade” movie and Deadpool in “X Men Origins: Wolverine”), yet he’s now also playing Green Lantern? No one could have predicted how Heath Ledger’s take on the Joker would turn out, or Robert Downey, Jr.’s take on Tony Stark/Iron Man. So why not give Evans a chance?
Stupidest argument? Gee thanks, personal opinion much? IMO once someone has portrayed such a prominent superhero they kind of become that superhero and it’s just not possible for one special one of a kind superhero to be, well another one. And yes I did feel the same about Ryan Reynolds but he isn’t noted in the above article therefore I did not comment on that!
Crazy, yes maybe. Stupid? No.
And I actually am all for giving both Chris’s a chance. Like I said above, I was peeved when so many denounced Thor’s casting yet they had nothing to base it on, most of them had never come across the guy. I am a tad uncertain about Chris E ‘s casting (and yes I’ve seen most of his projects) also going by the pictures above, he’s not how I would picture the Cap. HOWEVER I am looking foward to what he’s going to bring us.
So thanks, you can crawl back into your hole.
Oh, and as for noone predicting RDJ’s & Heath’s sucess in their roles – not true. IMO they were perfectly awesome from the get-go. Neither can do no wrong with such characters that they played. Many of us expected the greatness they brought to screen.
Don’t be so negative about Chris Evans. He’s hugely underestimated by people who haven’t seen him in the big range of movies he’s done. Get behind him!! He’s been overworking. He’s just done 2 or 3 movies back to back and just finished What’s Your Number? to fly off to the UK to start filming and now he’s flown 11 hours to attend this event. Damn right he looks tired and pale!!
Was there for the two panels on Saturday. Asgard looks nothing like I imagined…way more amazing! Ken has gone above and beyond for this film. I was one that eye rolled Chris H. as Thor. SOLD! Chris Evans looked pale, especially next to Chris H., but man did that boy bulk up to play this role. He seriously seems committed to it so I’m in. Everyone from directors to actors are so into the stories and making them good that it’s hard not to be enthused. The only downer all day was the moderator, making fun of fan costumes while trying to endear himself to the “normal” people onstage.
Evans might be shooting his scenes as the scrawny sickly Steve Rogers. we’ll see
Get rid of Samule Jackson as Fury. Jackson is portraying Fury as an angry pimp from the ghetto! Somebody explain the character to him before he destroys the movie. Vive la Quebec!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeah, no. Fury has always been simmering and surly, with barely restrained anger at pretty everything which wasn’t task oriented. They didn’t name the character “Nick Gentle”.
Hmm. I lost a ‘much’ in there. A senior moment, I guess.
