IMO leave it the way it is and if the movies does good
expand the roster..
I’m pretty stoked and looking forward to seeing it..
Mark Ruffalo i can kind of see as he was sort of a scientist in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind…
Scarjo can’t be the only female.
I don’t really want the cast any bigger. Plus if Whedon casts a woman to play one of the Avengers he will just make her really likable then kill her off around the half way point just so the story has some emotional impact.
Great movie but thesexhookup was better
Avengers absolutely needs more women. This was my one concern when they officially announced the cast. Our world is 50% female, and even summer action movie audiences have a lot more than 1 woman for every 7 men. I want to see a team that reflects this diversity. I’m a guy, and I get bored watching a bunch of guys talking at a bunch of other guys, even when there’s cool stuff blowing up in the background.
I especially want to see diversity in a Joss Whedon production. I am a huge fan of his work, and it has always been built upon a foundation of equality and strong women characters. A movie of dudes would not be him “doing something different,” it would be a definitive step backwards. And even if some of the supporting women from the individual heroes’ movies are going to appear here (and Natalie Portman for one has already said she won’t be in Avengers), that’s not the same as having actual women on the team. That suggests that most women can only expect to stand on the sidelines while the men are the rockstars saving the world. Not cool.
There are plenty of awesome women in the Avengers comics. Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Wasp, absolutely. Or let’s see Mockingbird, or Firestar, or Jessica Jones, or Spider-Woman.
Totally agree about the need for greater gender and racial diversity in superhero films. It doesn’t reflect the real world or represent us well in overseas markets. That being said:
Thrilled that Jeremy Renner will be Hawkeye. Mark Ruffalo will surprise everyone with his Hulk. Jennifer Garner needs to be in this; ditto Jada Pinkett Smith.
And Zoe Saldana! And what about Marion Cotillard as The Scarlet Witch? She is scary in Inception and the Witch is from European origin…
You know as much as I am a fan of sticking close to the source material and having a cast reflect that, I would have to agree with seeing what Joss can do with this initial cast first, and THEN start adding in more. To have all the Avengers in the first time around is not necessary at this point. For example, having the Ant-Man and Wasp in there…now you have to take time to explore the dynamic in their marriage and all that. We don’t need to see that right now. Let us see the team come together as a cohesive unit, and then start adding in pieces.
In fact, what’s wrong with having a core group of Avengers, but when they travel to different parts of the world, they lock up with other heroes who assist as needed?!? Like if they go to Africa…Black Panther helps out, and so on.
I’m not sure they should throw Ms.Marvel in the movie, but they sure could introduce Carol Danvers.
