It sounds like Whedon’s going to go for a “dysfunctional family” storyline where everyone clashes and argues or fires clever one-liners at each other. This is exactly why I dreaded Whedon’s attachment to the film. Despite his background, he simply doesn’t get that “Yes, these guys could all exist in the same room, and what’s more, they could cooperate.” Stark/Iron Man founded the Avengers. Cap was a well-respected leader and soldier, and Thor’s a freaking god who befriends and respects the other two. The Hulk was a nemesis for the first group, so we don’t really have to worry about who’s getting along with him, now, do we?
I haven’t read an Avengers comic for some time but they were always fighting. Sure they all worked well as a team, for the most part, but they argued a lot.
You should really watch the ‘Dollhouse’ series in its entirety before you shit on Whedon when it comes to teams. He manages to take several Alpha characters and make them work together seamlessly in the end.
I don’t know how the movie will be, but I’ve always loved superhero teams more than individuals in comics. I much prefer X-men to Wolverine, Batman/Superman to either alone, Justice League to individual books, and Avengers to Spider-man. And so on. :0)
The question we should be asking is which avenger Joss Whedon is going to kill off? I’m opposed to the idea of an Avengers movie. No doubt Hollywood is going to screw it up like X-MEN, but if I did have to choose a director it would wonderful Whedon.
Whichever character you love the most of course, lol. Fred, Anya, Wash…sigh.
Joss is brilliant with ensemble casts. I think it will be great to see our super heroes working together.
I think it will be brilliant!
Split the movies.
Marvel have been very clever in setting up their Marvel movieverse in a similar way to their comicbook universe. By having the main Avengers, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor & Captain AMerica as well as Nick Fury (who was clearly the alpha dog in Iron Man 2)in seperate films there’s no nee to highlight one character’s “origin” whilst throwing others into the background. Audiences should have a good idea who all of these characters are and their interpersonal relationships, strengths and weaknesses can form a solid dramatic base for a kick ass story.
Joss is perfect for this movie. I’m excited to see him challenged and what he will come up with.
