Image Credit: Peter MountainIn a surprise prerecorded video following Disney’s Tron: Legacy panel at Comic-Con, Johnny Depp appeared on-screen in his Captain Jack Sparrow costume to tease the fourth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Depp promised that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will feature “zombies, cutthroats, mermaids, and the vicious and vivacious Penélope Cruz.” The film is due May 2011, and if the reception from the crowd at Comic-Con to Depp’s brief appearance is any indication, enthusiasm for the franchise remains strong.Latest News

Did someone say mermaids?!
yes mermaids. there is going to be one named seryna. i auditioned for the part… bu obviously didnt get it
Guess they’re not ‘natural’… Nod to the story awhile back and a joke. Please don’t take personally!
Oh, and sorry that you didn’t get the part. Maybe next time…
how did you audition?!
Well the third film was one of the worst movies I have ever seen, so I am less than intrigued.
I actually quite enjoyed it in the theaters. It’s fully of bad one-liners, but it’s not that bad. I’ve seen worse.
I liked POTC 3 better than the second one
It is that bad. And more. The second was marginally less worse. The first, ofc, was fantastic.
@Mike Agreed, the third film was garbage. Not particularly fond of the second, either.
I’m skeptical – was it enthusiasm for the series, or for Johnny Depp? I’d lean toward the latter.
I do intend to see the movie. I’m just saying no one should judge potential response to a movie by response to JD — he’ll always get that reaction.
The 2nd “film” was so horrendous that I refuse to watch any of the other ones. Ever!
Right, the third movie was utter nonsense and beyond horrible.
Looking forward to this one though, if only for Johnny
Johnny Depp is the only reason this franchise went anywhere. Without his Captain Jack Sparrow, I doubt there would have even been a sequel
I was excited…right up until they announced Penelope Cruz was going to be in it. My joy has since waned.
She’s awesome, what would be the problem?? Oscar-winner, beautiful, she could be Johnny’s sister.Mmmm
I agree AND JD is so overdue for his oscar already!
I love Johnny Depp. I repeat: I love Johnny Depp.
Penelope Cruz is one of the poorest excuses for an actress that ever was. She may even be worse than Sharon Stone.
They should’ve never made another pirate movie after POTC: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which was nearly perfect.
But *sigh* I’ll weigh anchor and see POTC 4. There’s a sucker born every minute.
Have you ever seen Volver, Vanilla Sky, or Nine?? She’s great! And those aren’t even the one she won for. Durrrr
PINK, I AGREE 100%,JUST SAW VOLVER A FEW WEEKS AGO, PENELOPE WAS INCREDIBLE. THERE IS NO COMPARISON BETWEEN STONE AND CRUZ. CRUZ HAS BEEN LAUDED AS ONE OF THE BEST ACTRESSES OUT THERE TODAY, SHARON HAS BEEN LAUDED AS ONE OF THE WORST, CATWOMAN ANYONE?
she still sucks dude your fighting a losing battle here no one likes her
I hate pcruz, I probably won’t see this movie because she annoys me that much, she is soooooo overrated
you must have missed the movie “Blow” in which cruz was the costar (wife) of jd’s character in the movie, great chemistry!!!! I could watch that movie over and over.
I’m hoping that since they’ve been freed of the “young lovers” story arc, they can just kind of go wild. Depp will be worth watching, regardless.
West bourough baptist church is here at the comic con spewing their hate towards gay… dumb asses just got out numbered by our geek people.. best sign “god loves gay robin”
“God hates micahel bay” “superman died for our sins” “odin is god”
Nice!
l don’t know if those were real signs, Turbo, but they are damn clever!
Love Johnny Depp! Love Captain Jack! Enough said.
Not sure I want to see this one. The first movie in the franchise was about as perfect as a movie can get (for me). The second one was alright, but the third one was terrible. Since I’m already not a big fan of Penelope Cruz, I think the fourth movie could be even worse.
Damn, how is this guy not tired of doing these movies?
Money!
I refuse to believe money is the primary motivation behind JD’s success!!!! He has lived on both sides of the track and if he lost all his money tom. I doubt it would affect who he is and his values and character. In fact, I suspect it takes very little to make him happy in every day living. Why do you think he and his family are so reclusive, they are more like us regular people than you think!
And what do you do for a living that’s so exciting? I’d really like to know…
I think he likes playing Jack Sparrow. It’s clearly a very fun character. Oh yeah and money.
he has said in interviews that as long as people want to see capt. jack he’d be willing to play it.
he simply loves playing this character and a lot of people love the character no matter how crappy the sequels are
The POTC movies are probably the only ones his kids can see him in. He probably does it for them. He never seemed to be the kind of actor who was only in it for the money, with all the quirky roles he has taken.
He’s said as much that his kids enjoy the character and like him to do it for them. That, for me, would certainly be incentive enough without the money icing on the cake!
It’s a fun character. Besides, it took Depp a long time to sell out; he has some catching up to do.
CANT WAIT
How could anyone get tired of Capn’ Jack? He’s the best character ever! Yes the first movie was the best, but I say keep going and going. Johnny loves playing this role, and I for one will watch these movies even if there are 30 or more of them. And I hope there are. However, I do agree about P. Cruz- not a fan. But who cares, I watch because of Johnny, but I will miss Turner. So Johnny, you keep doing what you love to do, it sure makes me happy.
