Actually, having just watched the trailer for the new, Eric Roberts-starring, Roger Corman-produced Syfy channel movie of that name, I’m not convinced sharktopuses — or should that be “sharktopi”? — are scary at all. But that’s not really the point, is it? With a bungee jumper getting eaten in mid leap, a retro-cheesy theme song, and Roberts chewing the scenery like, well, a hungry shark-octopus hybrid super weapon of some sort, this has “Unmissable crud” written all over it. In blood! And octopus ink!! And possibly waterproof paint as well!!!!!!!!
Check out the clip after the jump, and tell us what you think.

I don’t care what anybody thinks. I love the Syfy original movies. I don’t go in expecting something great so i am always entertained.
I seriously think that these movies are going to become something of a “must” and esteemed actors will start agreeing to do cameos or act in them. Syfy seems to have a growing phenomenon on their hands.
Nice to see Mega-Shark and Giant Octopus eventually got over their differences.
Wow, that was the cheesiest piece of schlock i’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to watch it!!!!!
Favourite line: There’s a mother f’ing shark on the mother f’ing octopus.
That back half looks more squid than octopus to me, but I guess calling it a Squark isn’t as scary as Sharktopus.
Is it just me or is that more like a shark and a squid hybrid?
Damn you Sharktopus!
I agree Carrie. These movies sometimes are just campy, fun entertainment. Don’t watch Syfy alot. But when I do, I just want to watch something entertaining. It doesn’t have to be an emmy winner or an Oscar nominee.
i think it is hilariously entertainingly, cheesy….
Pure cheez… gotta love Eric Roberts though…
Love that last part, this is precisely why I never bungie jump!
Exactly because you Know 1in10 people get eaten by a skarktopus!
Why wasn’t it called octoshark?
An octoshark is the offspring of a male octopus and a female shark. The sharktopus, on the other hand, is clearly the offspring of a female octopus and a male shark.
The front of the creature is a shark so…. Sharktopus.
Over the years SciFi or whatever they want to call themselves have made some really good series, miniseries and even a few good movies. Why have they degenerated into some kind of contest of how cheesy and crappy they can make a movie?
For the most part their SyFy original movies have always been cheese-fest. Not sure if it’s true, but supposedly they tried making them more serious in the early 2000′s, but they started losing the audience. People just want campy, cheesy, disaster/horror movies. As long as they continue to produce good quality programming, I’m happy for them to keep making these schlocky original movies. More cheese please!!!!
This movie was made for doobies.
“What’s scarier than a shark or a giant octopus?”
A politician?
Reminds me of that Korean film The Host – you see the monster right away and often. And, lots of inappropriate humor. Sign me up!
