Annie Barrett asked me to take over her Lunchtime Pollster duties while she’s on vacation in Canada or wherever. (Actually, she just left a post-it note on my computer screen: “DO MY JOB FOR ME, NERD!”) Like most people, I spent the weekend waiting in line to see Batman Minus Batman Inception. No spoilers here, but I do have one question: Is Christopher Nolan running a Career Renewal Center? As far as me and my friend IMDB can figure, Inception is the first time that Tom Berenger has starred in a major Hollywood release since Major League II, in 1994. (To all you Twilight fans: Tom Berenger was the coolest man alive in 1986, and then again briefly in 1989.)
You also have Lukas Haas (the dude with the crazy grandma in Mars Attacks!) and Tom Hardy, the only actor not wearing a perfectly-tailored monochrome suit. Before I saw Inception, I still mostly remembered Hardy for his role as Captain Picard’s Evil Romulan Clone in Star Trek: Nemesis. Which is not a sentence that Annie Barrett will ever write.
Who were you most excited to see in Inception, PopWatchers?

It’s blasphemy you don’t mention Sniper when talking about TB.
I’m guessing that that the reference to 1986 was Platoon, BADA$$
And when the machine breaks down…
Nice to see Pete Postlethwaite on-screen again.
YES! I loved him in The Ususal Suspects. My 2nd fave movie, after Inception.
I thought the same thing! Remember Rutger Hauer in Batman Begins? He likes picking random forgotten 80′s actors, I guess.
Including Eric Roberts in The Dark Knight
…and how about plucking Eric Roberts off the straight-to-DVD heap/bad guy in music video roles for “The Dark Knight.”
Can’t wait to see what he has in store for Billy Zabka.
LOL! Or Rowdy Roddy Piper
Well Joseph Gordon Levitt and Lukas Haas were both in Brick together…maybe JGL put in a good word about Lukas Haas to Chris Nolan…perhaps
Actually, Haas is good friends with DiCaprio. That’s more likely to be the reason for his small part.
I wanted to vote for both Lukas and Tom Hardy (hoory for Handsome Bob!), since I really do love them both, but my weird obsession with Lukas Haas won out.
*Hooray* for Handsome Bob!
I recognized Lukas Haas as the little amish boy in Witness.
Oh yeahh
Tom Hardy recently turned in a critically acclaimed performance in ‘Bronson’ which probably marks the beginning of his career revival. Anyone that writes for Entertainment Weekly should be aware of that!
He’s been doing some great stuff on the BBC. He’s my second favorite screen Heathcliff, after Olivier.
So glad Hardy’s work on the Beeb has gotten a mention. He was wonderful as Heathcliff and terrifying as Bill Sykes (although you could say that Heathcliff can be a bit terrifying too).
Tom Berenger! He is the LEGEND!!!
I gotta admit-I saw the movie and had no clue that was Tom Berenger! Very cool!
I was really looking forward to seeing Tom Berenger. The first time I ever saw him in anything was the TV adaption of Sidney Sheldons If Tomorrow Comes. It was so cheesy but I loved it and have been a fan of his ever since. I was a little surprised by how he looks. He did nt look bad just a little older and greyer than I expected…
“(To all you Twilight fans: Tom Berenger was the coolest man alive in 1986, and then again briefly in 1989.)”
Darren, how old were YOU in 1986? I don’t think you’re old enough to talk down to Twilight fans (of all ages).
I had no idea Berenger wasn’t in a movie since 1994. Jeez that’s a long time. Also, Tom Hardy was extremely good in Bronson. You should watch it, because that’s where I mostly know him from.
I liked seeing Tom Berenger again, but it was really Tom Hardy in a Tom Berenger mask. And Tom Berenger isn’t looking so good these days…looked a bit like a goldfish with those cheeks. Good job by him, but great job by Hardy.
Tom Hardy!!!
I believe Leo and Lukas Haas are good friends in real life…just saying…
