The L.A. Times has an intriguing story today about Creative Artists Agency shopping around the tentatively titled Mommy & Me, a movie to be directed by Stanley Tucci starring Meryl Streep and Tina Fey. There’s no script yet — hell, there isn’t even a writer — so this project is just learning to crawl. But the idea of a Streep-Fey pairing with Tucci behind the lens a) fills me with joy; and b) jogged my memory about something Fey said when I interviewed her (with Steve Carell) for EW’s Date Night cover story in March.
When I asked Fey whom she still dreams of working with, she said, “Well, doesn’t every person dream of, like, Meryl Streep?” (Yes. I totally dream of Meryl Streep, even though I have no plans of ever starring in a movie.) Then she added, “I’d like to play Meryl Streep’s mother.” Now, a sane person would argue that she was just making a Tina Fey funny here. (Carell let out a big ole wallop of laughter.) But I think she was sending out a message to the universe, which Tucci soon picked up. The guy is so gonna grant Fey her wish with Mommy & Me. Biology be damned, the Emmy-winning actress is gonna play the Oscar-winner’s mama. And win an Academy Award for her efforts! It’s going to be the cinematic event of the century! The grosses will top Avatar!
Or, you know, Mommy & Me will just be a really funny movie and make a lot of us moviegoers very happy. Fingers crossed this cinematic magic will come to fruition. What do you think of Mommy & Me‘s potential for awesomeness?

I hope it’s as amazing as it sounds!
This has potential, and I can definitely see Tina Fey and Meryl Streep playing mother and daughter (or the other way around, somehow!). Very similar features, especially the nose, the cheekbones, and the lips.
Love this pairing…
But Tina playing Meryl’s mother. I smell “body swap”!
Make it so, hollywood!!!
Okay, I’ll say it: I want to go to there.
Drat! You beat me to it.
They don’t need a story. Just have the two of them on screen talking and joking around for 2 hours. I’d stand in line to buy that ticket!!
counting the days!
…if God is not dead, this will happen!
I’m already in line.
When Betty White and Tina Fey did “SNL” I thought, “Why didn’t they invite Meryl to do a cameo?” The three would have been great. Meryl and Tina? Oh God, yes!
I saw the LA Times article last night and just about died from excitement. THIS. MUST. HAPPEN! I think the screen would implode from the sheer amazingness that Meryl and Tina’s combined efforts would bring.
Just love these two ladies! Make it happen!
Love her but Swedishfriendfinder was better
Tell me where to go to see it, and I’m there.
