Julie Chen blogs 'Big Brother' episode 2

Julie-ChenImage Credit: CBSWhat the BEEP! Oh, “Big Brother Saboteur,” we barely knew you! Sad to see our “Saboteur” leave the house tonight…I was eagerly anticipating a summer full of crazy Big Brother fan-inspired sabotage.

I think Annie played the game well, but she may have shot herself in the foot by playing too hard too soon. After tonight’s show, she told me that the moment she entered the house she started playing her game, while most of her fellow Houseguests sat back and let the game come to them. She also admittedly didn’t handle being put on the block very well and reacted too aggressively. Whatever the reasoning, her HouseMATES delivered a resounding eviction vote of 10-0. Not one vote for Rachel – THAT had to sting!

She also expressed that the game was much harder than expected and that the realization that she could not trust someone she was sharing a room with was emotionally draining. I think she was also a bit embarrassed for being the first to leave, but overall grateful for the experience.

I do give her kudos for the bold yet failed attempt to save herself by calling out Brendon for lying about his profession. That move only strengthens the disdain the “Brigade” has towards the swim coach. And she even snuck in one last sabotage before walking out…tune in on Sunday to see what she did. A “Saboteur” till the very end.

Once Annie left the studio, I was standing on the stage thinking that the “Brigade” would maintain their control of the house, but then a curveball in the form of a red-headed “Have-Nottie” snatches this week’s HOH. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Rachel goes from tag-along to leader in the blink of an eye. That’s exactly what I love about this show. Do you think her “showmance” continues or does she use her power in the game to snuggle up to a more secure player? Comments, please!

Now that the “Saboteur” has been ousted and with a new HOH in place, here are my thoughts on the current alliances inside the house. I’ve ranked the alliances in order of strength:

1) The “Brigade” Alliance (Hayden, Enzo, Lane and Matt): Despite Rachel’s victory this evening, I think they’re still running the show. But on the flip side, their moniker could be one of the weakest in 12 seasons.

2) The “Love Nerds” Alliance (Brendon and Rachel): This season’s inaugural “showmance” is hot and heavy for the time being. I think it’s safe to say that Brendon is camping out in the HOH room all week. Rachel’s victory tonight moved them from third to second place in the rankings. Both are very strong players – physically and mentally – and as Annie stated during her plea before being voted out, we could be witnessing the emergence of this season’s Jeff and Jordan.

*A quick dating tip for Brendon and all future love birds on this show — it’s probably never a good idea to ask one of your fellow Houseguests out on a date (once the show is over) while you’re still living inside the house. You never know where this game is going to take you.

3) “Arkansas’ Finest” Alliance (Britney, Kathy and Monet): Yes, I know Monet isn’t from Arkansas. I understand the regional bond between Britney and Kathy, but I’m still trying to figure out Monet’s association. Does Britney remind anyone of a younger Kathy without the badge? I predict this is the first alliance to break up.

4) Kristen and Andrew: One of the most peculiar pairings so far in my opinion. I’m still waiting for Kristen to pipe up a bit more, but maybe that’s part of her strategy. And are we starting to see hints of a second “showmance” forming between Kristen and Hayden?

5) Ragan: Poor Ragan. Either he’ll continue to be an outsider in this game or play the role of the all powerful swing vote at some point.

* We all learned during tonight’s HOH challenge that there was 330 gallons of sticky “goo” in Sunday night’s “Sweet Tooth” challenge. But did you know that there was over 1,300 pounds of popcorn!

* My personal favorite “fan-submitted sabotage” was one that suggested the “Saboteur” throw all the Houseguest’s food over the Big Brother wall. That’s called playing to win…depriving you and your fellow competitors of nourishment. I wish we could have seen that one played out.

* I love Kathy, but she really needs to lose that “Rub for Luck” shirt or at least wear something else. Wonder what her fellow officers back in Arkansas think?

* Enzo, no more sunglasses inside the house! If you’re using it as a tactic to avoid eye contact when you’re lying through your teeth that’s one thing. But I get the sense, the “Meow, Meow” simply thinks it’s cool. Love ya Enzo, but we’re not at the World Series of Poker.

* I’m not sure who was more emotional this week, Annie or Brendon. I understand Annie’s tears, but Brendon needs to man up a bit if he’s going to stay in the house.

* I’m guessing America decided Kathy was the “Saboteur” the second they saw her taking a siesta during the “Sweet Tooth” challenge. I’m not saying I could have done it either, but she may need to showcase a bit more physicality to stay in the game.

That’s all for this week. I can’t wait to see how the shift in the HOH impacts the game. Do Brendon and Rachel keep love alive; will we see a second “showmance” between Kristen and Hayden emerge; will Ragan jump into an alliance? Let me know your thoughts.

She was a great saboteur. She sabotaged herself right out of the house with her whining and backstabbing.

    • opps

Opps Producers had on big gimmick and no plan b… they should off an existing house guest the same deal.

  • Nebraska

I want to shave Hayden’s head and give some of his hair to Enzo, who seems to be unwilling to accept the fact that he’s going bald.

    • Lucy

      OMG!!! how appropriate!!!

    • Hope

    • Enzo Soprano

Meow meow indeed. I see the top of my cat’s head every day, and it’s never been that sparse. Rogaine, anyone?

  • Kimmi

Do you think BB producers will put in another twist this season?

    • DW

Oooh… a replacement Saboteur. Interesting! CBS has never met an audience participation vote they didn’t like.

      • brenda

it would be funny to reveal annie as the saboteur then tell the houseguest oh btw there in actually 2 saboteurs

    • Sarah

God, I hope so. It’s going to be boring otherwise. Maybe bring Ronnie back ha?!?

    • anna

ugh no way. what happened to the big brother of lets say season 2 where the players just played the bloody game without interference from tptb.

    • stlcardsfan

they should give the “power” to the last person “America” thought was the Sabo.

Maybe it was just sour grapes on her part, but I belive Annie was correct by saying that they should have evicted Rachel and not her. Esp. since Rachel now has HOH. And the Saboteur? Too bad it was a bust so quickly in the game…

    • Al

Annie’s argument just showed that she was untrustworthy in that Brended confided in her and she then used it against him. They will keep gunning for Brenden and Rachel but wanted Annie out first.

    • caryn

@AI Completely agree… I can’t believe the other houseguests kept such a strong alliance in the house. Especially since they’re not aligned with anyone else.

  • Meow Meow

“What the BEEP!” HAHA, oh Julie, you make me laugh.

    • darclyte

Come on Julie, please let us know if The Saboteur was lying or who she was talking about when she said that 2 HGs are “life long friends.”

      • Oliver

Darclyte, please…just think about it for 5 seconds. If there really were 2 HQs who were friends, wouldn’t Julie say something about that twist in the beginning of the season? And besides, the SABOTEUR said that…the liar, the trickster, the deciet?

  • j

I’m not so certain that Rachel is as bright as people feel she is. I also wonder if BB will have to introduce a twist or perhaps a second saboteur to keep things interesting. I liked that this secret and the possible connection between two of the houseguests before the game were not revealed to us or the houseguests. Those types of twists are more fun than us always knowing things. Maybe a couple of those during the season would keep things interesting.

    • Al

Was the connection between two houseguests real or just a lie by the saboteur? I thought it was real until the lie about the saboteur escaping the block.

      • Kristoffer

I think that she made it up to stir things up a bit. While I understand that BB was helping her some with the plots she pulled off (like cutting off the power) I don’t think they would tell her something like that.

  • stewie

Two thoughts that are driving me crazy: How come there has been no mention of the “life long friends” pair since first announced? Was the saboteur lying about that? And also: Are the houseguests going to be told the saboteur has left the building? Or are we going to have to listen to them freak out about it for no reason?

    • Sarah

Well, probably since Annie also lied about the SAB not being on the block. It’s just to create some tension is my guess.
And Julie said the guests will find out this coming week.

  • Vanth

Julie didn’t mention the 2 life long friends that the saboteur spoke about. I believe it is Hayden and Lane. After all, Hayden did say that Lane lives in the same town as his sister and he could see the 2 of them hanging out all the time (maybe because they already do).

  • Jeremy

For some reason, I feel another “America’s Player” twist coming. That would be an easy way to fix the Sabateur leaving so early in the game.

  • Chris

CBS announced that the “Lifelong Friends” twist was just a trick of the saboteur to shift the attention to someone else. Also, the last message of the saboteur will give the last sabotage and let them know the truth about Annie. Until next time, houseguests.

    • adriana

When and where did CBS announce this?

    • Patty

I think you should Annie tell them by putting the SAB on the TV screen and start out as normal, let the houseguests all run to the TV and while she talks she “morphs” into…surprise! They will all be shocked!

    • Liz

Will you please post when and where CBS announced this???? I have searched the internet and have not found anything factual stating whether the “lifelong friends” twist is true or not.
It does make sense that CBS would plan for another twist (kept secret) in case the SAB left too early, such as wk 1. Sooo I’m 50/50 as to whether this new “twist” is legit.

  • Michael

I dont like the Brigade alliance and I am so happy that Rachel won HoH… (Annoying or not, she makes me laugh cause she laughs at everything!)

I still don’t have a favorite in the game.

    Lets see what happens next!

Kristen needs to stop being mute.

  • Beth

I really hope u guys don’t drag out this sabateur thing and inform the houseguests soon who it was. It’s already getting old!

    • darclyte

Julie said that on Sunday’s episode we’ll see the HG get informed about The Saboteur.

    • Kristoffer

I would love to see them play it out. I think they should have let Annie continue to make videos with false information to keep the HG’s guessing. Then when the twist was going to be finished (however many weeks that was supposed to be) let them know that the mole has been out of the house since the 1st eviction.

  • Paco

love Chenbot calling out Brandon on needing to man up. When he started crying on the hammock and when he was talking to Rachel about her not caring about his feelings… i just couldnt believe my eyes/ears. Not saying that a man shouldnt cry or express emotions… it just… the reasons why were just dumb to me.

    • caryn

Agree. A man is certainly able to express emotions, when its something serious (a death, loss of job, serious relationship) but when it’s about a game being “too hard” it isn’t very manly.

  • SLB

Ragan an outsider? Everyone in the house loves Ragan.

    • davey

Agreed! I think Ragan will go far. He doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s “radar” for eviction.

      • BLH

I think that Julie’s just saying he’s outside the current alliances.

  • Jack

Julie, I say this with all due respect: you looked smokin’ hot last night.

I’m actually going to miss Annie. She seemed to have a personality and a BRAIN(!) and would’ve been fun to watch this summer. Oh well.

    • Kim from Texas

What I want to know is how Julie got rid of the weight from the baby that she had last year? Does she have a personal trainer or a special diet? And who designed the dress? Very classy!
