Every day Whoopi Goldberg gets away with wearing the smock they give you at the hair salon — like the thing that goes over your real shirt to protect it. Show us your real shirt, Whoopi! Kate Ward and I have severe salon envy right now as we are both in desperate need of a haircut. We’re also just jealous of the cozy factor — we have to wear real clothes to the office. EW isn’t ‘nam; there are rules. We could be fired for shenanigans like this.
Anyway, on today’s View, Whoopi acted all incredulous after Clay Aiken said “Some kids are a–holes.” She approves of Mel Gibson, but the A-word on morning television is just too much.
You tell us: Does Whoopi get a pass on the HSS because she’s an EGOT winner?

Apparently, Michael Vick and Mel Gibson are Whoopi’s kind of folks. I don’t give a damn what she wears.
Don’t forget Roman Polanski. She seemed to be very much on his side. Remember how she said it wasn’t “rape rape.”
…and Chris Brown
I don’t think she was incredulous, I think she was just shocked he said it. Way to make a mountain out of a mole hill.
Maybe Whoopi is embarrassed by her figure or lack of fashion sense. and wants to cover it up…
Whoopi is an actress/comedienne who has met all of these peeps so she has personal contact and prob. sympathizes because she’s been in their position….I mean, she’s been married 2-3 times, she’s stolen a man from his wife…all of those “bad” things, so she doesn’t judge anyone their frailities.
Isn’t it technically a Daytime Emmy? She told Tracy it counts though.
The other Emmys aren’t considered THE Emmys, theyre called Primetimes, an emmy is an emmy dude.
Back to the topic: I’d wear leggings and a T-shirt to work if I could. Off-topic: the thought of Sherri raising a child is scary.
It’s whoopi, she can wear whatever she likes that makes her comfortable. As far as her acting incredulous for Clay saying as-hole. I think that was more of an inside joke… she has mentioned many times that they are always on her to be careful at what she says, not to cuss, etc. Then Clay comes on and they let him say what she has been wanting to call Mel Gibson for days now.
I’m more to the Whoopi spectrum politically than say…Elizabeth, but her defense of these people is out of control. Just because she “knows” them doesn’t mean anything. Besides the fact that I doubt she is truly good friends with these people. I think over-identifies with other celebrities and becomes defensive. She is making no sense to me.
I’d wear the smock once in a while…if I could paint it so I could look like a musketeer.
Think about it, other than the Oscars back when she won, and when she met the Queen, have you EVER seen Whoopi dressed up? Really, what’s your point about the smock?
The point seems to be that Annie feels better about herself by making random insults about clothing, as if what a person wears is the only thing that matters.
Or that she had nothing to write about….
Definitely not.
But then again, I actually take pride in my appearance, so…
She’s not a fashionista; or even business casual for that matter. She is who she is. Like it or don’t; I don’t think she gives a fig.
I think that you chose today to pick on her because she dared to say something a little bit favorable about Mel Gibson. Everybody has to have the same opinion as EW, or they get attacked.
And come on, it was obvious that she was joking about the word–when she said “can I say that?” she meant that she always has to watch what she says and Clay just said it. Lay off her.
Good Lord, I hate Clay Aiken. Gay icon my… well, what he said.
Doug, why go around hating folks you don’t know…other than seeing them on tv. Hate is a very strong word and u need to learn how to use it, if you have to. The guy is a genius. Thank the Lord he ignores folks like yourself. Don’t like him? don’t watch him. Its that simple.
So Doug can’t think or speak ill of someone he doesn’t know but someone YOU don’t know is a genius? Logic only a Claymate could come up with.
BFreak, the difference is that someone who regularly pays attention to what Clay does & says is in a better position to have an informed opinion about him rather than someone who merely hates for some superficial reason. Clay is quite an admirable person if you know him, which I do.
I can’t recall what Whoopi’s Emmy is for, but it is from some years ago, not the new one for The View. She did dress up every time she hosted an awards show – particularly the Oscars.
