'The Hills' comes to an end: What are your top moments?

The-Hills-Lauren-ConradTonight is the series finale of MTV’s The Hills and the end of a certain pop culture era. In 2006, we all saw ourselves as Lauren: a young girl arriving in a new city, looking for friendship, love, and success. We could relate to her attempts at having at all, and she and her friends were just like us…with much more glamorous wardrobes, homes, and jobs. (Well, “jobs.”) There were a few surprises  — check out The Hills: 12 Game-Changing Moments gallery — and there were plenty of episodes we just loved. After six seasons of hookups, breakups, friends, jobs, and dating, what moments from The Hills stuck with you? Our top picks:

“The Girl Who Didn’t Go to Paris” — When Teen Vogue West Coast Editor Lisa Love offered Lauren Conrad the chance of a lifetime — the opportunity to travel to Paris for the summer — we were giddy with excitement. What more could a budding fashionista ask for? But young love proved to be stronger than career ambition, and Lauren decided to pass up the trip for a summer at the beach with then-boyfriend Jason Wahler. We watched Whitney Port roll her suitcase up to the LAX curb, cheerfully greeting Lisa Love, ready to take the fashion world by storm. Lauren would be remembered as “the girl who didn’t go to Paris,” raising the question, love or career? Can’t we have both?

Heidi moves in with Spencer — Lauren and Heidi were both new to Los Angeles, and together they navigated their new city and new lives. Being roommates was drama-free until sweet little Heidi met Spencer Pratt. Lauren had her doubts — Spencer initially pursued Audrina as well — but when Heidi announced she planned to move in with her new boyfriend, Lauren was at a loss. In season two’s dramatic finale, the girls’ time as roomies had ended, as well as any shred of normalcy in their relationship (or Spencer’s psyche). As the U-Haul pulled away, Heidi left Lauren, and the rest of us, for good, choosing Spencer as her new partner.

Heidi vs. Lauren at Les Deux — After Heidi moved out, her friendship with Lauren continued to disintegrate as the war between her former roommate and her current boyfriend Spencer raged on. When rumors of an alleged Lauren-Jason sex tape surfaced, Lauren thought all signs pointed to Spencer, with Heidi guilty by association. The two crossed paths at Les Deux, and armed with new best friend/roommate Audrina, Lauren publicly called Heidi out for her suspicious ways, for all their fellow clubgoers to hear. The sex tape rumors had been circulating the media as well, making one of the earliest references to the newfound “celebrity” that had found The Hills‘ cast. From that point on, no one ever seemed to be unaware of their role on a reality show. Call it the end of innocence, the official death of a friendship, or just a good old fashioned cat fight, but “you know what you did!” will forever live in reality TV infamy.

Does the end of The Hills make you at all sentimental, PopWatchers? Which moments were the most important to you?

  • alex

I think Justin Bobby took your ticket

“You Know What U DID!!” will always be the biggest moment. But i liked Laurens “i want to forget you” line, and Kristins return.
My favorite scene of the whole series though is when Lauren and Heidi talk at that event opening and its after Heidi had that fight with her mom about the mexico wedding to spencer… it was just bittersweet. They were talking and they were friendly but it was over. I’ll miss this show.

I’m a 33 yr. old that just loved watching The Hills. I even got my husband into it, although he will never admit to it. I even used to watch Laguna Beach or whatever it was called. I missed the first season of the hills, but got hooked from the second season and I’ve been watching it ever since. Once Kristen came along, I somewhat stopped, she kind of killed it for me with all their fakeness. Before it was somewhat fake too, but at least it wasn’t so obvious. I will miss the show.

      OUCH!!! Get a life

    • Michelle

The thing that I absolutely hated about the show was that it was SUPPOSED to be about their lives…but their actual lives are about being “celebrities”.

  • Bob

Both the question and the answer are in the title. Favorite moment is that it is coming to an end. Hopefully these people will disappear from my google news

Best part of the show – closing credits of the last show. . . people this was acting (bad acting) no reality here. All the suckers that bought into this joke. . . hope you enjoyed wasting your time

  • Julia

“I want to forgive you…and then I want to forget you.” Burn.

RIP to the most transparently scripted “reality” show in TV history. I’ve always found this show kind of fascinating on a meta level. It takes everything conceit inherent in the reality TV concept and amps it up to an absolutely insane degree. The abundance of editing imparts an incredible off-kilter sense of time (witness as Brody goes from being Kristin’s friend to her ex-boyfriend in the space of 1 episode). We are asked to buy into the concept of this “reality” that is extensively manipulated and where camera crews “just happen” to be standing by and rolling in Lauren’s car at the moment Brody decides to make a key phone call. The Hills’ epitaph is that it is both a complete joke and a fascinating document of its era.

this show needs to come to an end. seriously, it’s the day of the finale, and heidi montag and spencer pratt are furiously trying to suck up the last moments of their “15 minutes” by taking to twitter. it’s sick in so many ways. sadly, i think we haven’t seen the last of any of these people – http://www.thesmogger.com/2010/07/13/out-with-a-bang/

What everyone else said. And I can’t wait until The Real World (why is that still on?) follows it into the light.

Go back to playing videos, MTV.

  • Tom

And oh yeah, someone needs to buy Brody Jenner a jump shot. He stinks!

  • Jay

All those who have commented that they had no time for The Hills, seem to have a lot of time to read an article about it and post a cynical diatribe. Nobody above the age of 16 has ever entertained the thought that the events depicted in The Hills might be real. However, the cast – at least the likes of Lauren and Audrina – actually *are* real. These are peoples lives – just magnified and edited to look much more dramatic than they are. You can still relate if you jettison your cynicism. For my part, I would have to agree that “You know what you did!!!!!!” will go down as the defining moment of the show.

  • Jay

    Huh. Two Jays.

  • jessica

i cant belive its realy over.i will miiss kristens fights over brody and justin bobby.and lo’s sweetness, but to say the truth it was alreay over when lc left.i will miss it
