Image Credit: Ian Gavan/Getty ImagesAmanda Seyfried is set to star in I’m.mortal, a sci-fi drama from Gattaca director Andrew Niccol, The Wrap reports. It’s said to be set in “a society where people stop aging at 25-years-old and time has become the currency, meaning the rich are immortal while the rest of the population struggles to survive.” Seyfried’s character is taken hostage by a rebel who’s forced to go on the run after he’s falsely accused of killing a wealthy man for his time. “Together, they rage against the system, living minute to minute, and discover that love is more powerful than all the time in the world.”
I like it. I’m curious to see how they physically represent time, if indeed they must. Seyfried’s costar has yet to be named. Let’s assume he needs to be in his mid-twenties as well. Who would you hire? I’d phone Emile Hirsch, and if he wasn’t free, Zach Roerig (The Vampire Diaries, Fright Night Lights). You could also look into Shia LaBeouf and Robert Pattinson.

Although, “Together, they rage against the system, living minute to minute, and discover that love is more powerful than all the time in the world,” literally made me cringe, this sounds like an interesting movie.
Between “Gattaca” (one of the great underappreciated movies of the late 90′s) “Lord of War” (also underrated) and writing “The Truman Show”, I’m a fan of Niccol’s work. (This is me ignoring “S1mone”)
As for the “rebel”, I’d go for Aaron Paul, who’s a bit older, but can still pull off mid-20′s I think.
Aaron Paul would be an excellent choice…however, he has already played a boyfriend of Seyfried’s in “Big Love.” Sure, they could do it again, but it wouldn’t feel as fresh and original.
Hirsch would be a pretty good choice. I really don’t like LaBeouf’s brand of acting (and he never seems to have believable chemistry with female costars), and I don’t see Pattinson as a “rebel” type (although I guess he’s got the “romantic” part down to a science).
Chris Pine would probably be a good choice, although I don’t know if he’ll want to do sci-fi movie after sci-fi movie.
I didn’t even think about the “Big Love” thing…mostly because I’ve never seen “Big Love.” Oops.
Niccol really did not live up to the promise of Gattaca and Truman Show, did he? I am glad to see him returning to brainy sci-fi though as I always thought he was one of the most promising new directors. (And not just because a quote from my review is on the Gattaca DVD sleeve.)
PS: His titles are some of the cleverest ever: Gattaca (effin’ brilliant), Truman Show, S1m0ne (less so)… but I don’t know about I’m.mortal. That’s borderline cheesy. Might want to work on that one some more.
Well, like I said, I actually quite liked “Lord of War” (and if you’ve seen it, you know that title is also kind of clever.)
However, I agree overall that it seems like Niccol should’ve done more as the next great sci-fi director.
Also, the title “I’m.mortal” made me cringe almost as much as that cheese-tastic quote from the press release.
I saw it … I remember thinking it was just OK. But that might be because I’m allergic to Nicolas Cage.
…well, you wouldn’t be the only one.
I like your suggestions (although I don’t know about Emile Hirsch for THIS role). I could definitely see Zach or Shia!
What about Dave Franco? He might be able to be taken a little more seriously with this role.
Uh, it doesn’t sound too great, but didn’t Niccol write The Truman Show?
Totally unrelated to the movie itself, but don’t you think Amanda Seyfried looks alot like a young Linday Wagner, and would make a great Bionic Woman(movie version)?
Nope. Not seeing the resemblance.
What about James McAvoy? I think he would be awesome in that role.
Ian Somerhalder! Plausible man on the run AND drop dead gorgeous.
I hope they represent time like Rankin Bass did in Rudolph’s Shiny New Year. Old men, babies, and years as islands. Mind-blowing.
“If you are from Africa… then why are you white?” Best like from Mean Girls… lol! I love Amanda in that movie.
Best line, I mean. Too funny!
Joseph Gordon-Levitt perhaps? Henry Cavill maybe, though he looks a little older than he is (late 20s). I really like the idea of Emile Hirsh though.
Great…thanks to you, I’m legitimately angry at myself for not thinking of JGL (one of my favorites), who’s a bit older, but definitely still looks youthful enough to pass for mid-20s.
Goodgod. Now I feel really old. I just assumed that he was early 20s since he started out so young. Almost 30….I think every joint in my body just creaked.
Yum, Henry Cavill!
Jon Foster would be an excellent option. He has both rebel and romantic down pat and is a very talented actor. Emile Hirscht is also an excellent choice.
Changed my mind. Joseph Gordon-Levitt!!!!
The way these things go, her costar will probably wind up being Tom Cruise or Will Smith.
NOOO! No Shia or Robert!!! Please for the love of movies, no!!!!
Please no LaBeouf or Pattinson. There are other 20-something actors out there, I promise. I wouldn’t mind Hirsch or (gasp!) an unknown or lesser known.
And isn’t Niccol also supposed to be making The Host, or did that fall through? Usually you guys never miss a beat to name-drop Meyer, so I was curious.
I like the basic concept. The title’s kind of a groaner, though. And coming from the guy who came up with Gattaca (a borderline genius and cerebral title), it’s even more disappointing.
I’d like to see someone less known. A TV actor with a following would be great, but please not anyone from Gossip Girl. I am SO done with their world take-over.
I think Twilight has taken over a lot more than GG. I mean I like the books (for both of these actually) but enough is enough!
