Susan Boyle launches a singing competition: Are you in?

susan-boyleImage Credit: music mixInternet sensation, Britain’s Got Talent runner-up,  and platinum-selling recording artist Susan Boyle announced she’s launching a singing competition on her website. The prize? A chance to duet with her on her next album. Contenders are asked to submit a video of themselves singing “Silent Night” through her YouTube channel. It sounds like a nice move for Boyle to give a leg up to another unknown, though the format would seem to make another surprising, come-from-no-where performance less dramatic than her BGT audition. Will you be warbling “Silent Night” for Boyle? And, more importantly, why is her perfectly-understandable English subtitled?

i think its subtitled for the hearing impaired- so everyone gets a chance ;)

Susan is as adorable as ever. As for your question: “…why is her perfectly-understandable English subtitled?” Well gee, has it occurred to you that not everyone has perfect hearing? Has it occurred to you that hearing-impaired people appreciate closed-captioning?”

Also, she doesn’t move her mouth in entirely the expected ways for the words she says. So people who take cues from mouth placement might have a harder time.

    Not for me.

    I’m sick of singing contests.

I won’t give it a shot simply because I have no talent, but this is a fantastic opportunity for someone, and they don’t even have to leave their home to send their audition.
As for the person who’s sick of singing contests, just don’t watch them or look at the auditions on the web and your problem is solved.
If you had some talent, you’d feel differently.

Hi KathyM, You are absolutely right. I am 76 yrs. old. I have talent and I went for it. What Susan is doing is great. Hope you can look at my video and see what I mean. Your never to old to have a dream. Susan, thanks for the opportunity.

I think if the networks want to keep paying this lady to extend her reach on tv, then fine.

I do love her spunk and her determination but for me, her 15 minutes sailed away a while ago.

Not everyone understands her Scottish accent, especially those from other countries.
