Happy birthday to you, Tom Hanks! You’re turning a very young 54 today, and I, for one, am grateful.
For “it was like magic” when I first discovered your work. Okay, maybe “magic” is a bit of stretch. But you had me at hello and all those other cheesy things you say about the stars you love. Not in a McDreamy sort of way, but in a you’d-be-the-best-person-to-fall-in-love-with-in-a-movie sort of way. I still want wanted to be Annie Reed in Sleepless in Seattle. And then it was Kathleen Kelly in You’ve Got Mail. I wanted to be your best friend in Big, and go on tour with Mr. White and The Wonders in That Thing You Do! I could keep doing this for days (and trust me, you’ve got enough material that it really would take days), but I’ll spare you. My birthday is next week, so, Tom when you get the chance, I hope you’ll return the birthday wishes.
Do this and I promise you, Tom. I will never cry during a game of baseball.

wow he is only 54! for some reason I thought he was older! maybe because I have been watching his movies forever!! Happy Birthday!!
Maybe it’s the roles he’s chosen over the years, but my image of Tom Hanks is someone who can never be anything but a really good person in real life. Human, yes, but deep-down good. I really admire that.
Plus he’s a kickass actor!
I feel the same way!
Me too! Sleepless was just the best. Don’t forget Forrest Gump and Philadelphia also…HB Mr. Hanks!
My friend worked for him for about two years…she said he really is as nice as he seems. When she left for a better job she thought he wouldn’t even notice, but Tom and Rita threw her a mini going away party.
He’s a super nice guy. He would come with his kids to the ice-cream store I worked at as a teenager, buy a $1.60 ice-cream, pay with a $20, and leave the rest in the tip jar. He always asked us how we were doing and seemed genuinely interested in our responses.
I have loved him ever since Bosom Buddies. I used to watch it when I was a kid. Also loved him on Family Ties, as the uncle. Have to say my favorite work is Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan. Happy Birthday Tom!! Thanks for all the great movies! Here’s hoping for lots more.
Breia, you are absolutely RIGHT! I mean, how many times have I seen Sleepless or You’ve Got Mail and fallen in love with him! Nevermind the hundreds of other movies/tv shows (LOVED Bosom Buddies!!) Happy Birthday, Mr. Hanks, I sure hope you have a wonderful celebration!
happy birthday Tom! one of my fave actors! he was my first favorite actor.
Joe vs. the Volcano is the greatest movie ever.
Ha ha, my brother and I quote that movie ALL the time! (Are you – JOE? Are you – Joe BANKS?) That was the first movie I ever saw Tom Hanks in
My parents hated it, which may account for why I love it so much. Happy birthday, Mr. Hanks!
I have no response to that.
Oh Tom Hanks…where do I even begin? From Philadelphia to Cast Away and even Splash, he gives a fantastic performance every time.
Happy Birthday Mr. Hanks!!! Someone of my best movie moments have been w/you….Big, Bachelor Party, Philadelphia, Sleepless in Seattle(sigh)….have to agree that Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan are not just two of my favorite movies, but maybe two of the best movies ever made! Hope it’s a good one!!
I’ve worked with Mr. Hanks and I can tell you… without a shadow of a doubt… that he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. I’m so glad I got to meet him and will forever cherish the time I spent in his company. Happy Birthday Tom!
Thank you Tom Hanks for giving us your talent for so long. Yeah I’ve watched all of his film but his young goofball self in Splash still has me laughing today. Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Tom Hanks! (And early happy birthday, Breia Brissey)
I wish he made more movies. He is so versatile and honest in his acting and, even when he’s playing someone who is not supposed to be likable, he just draws you in. He makes me feel like the world is a better place with him in it. Happy Birthday, Tom; please keep making great movies!
He really does seem like a good guy. He’s an amazing actor, but my favorite movie with him is “the Burb’s”. It’s so cheesy and goofy. His best performances are obviously Forrest, Castaway and Philadelphia, but if I could pick a flick of his to chill to, it would be Burbs. “sheepishly said”, sorry. Hope we see him in more flicks, deep ones, AND cheesy ones! And what was that one flick of him in an airport as a tourist? Nobody liked that film, what was the name? I thought it was all right.
Oh, and my favorite, That Thing You Do…which he didn’t have a big part acting in, but made, and it’s wonderful. The guy is just talented in so many ways. Kudos to him.
The Terminal! I actually really enjoyed that movie. He was able to carry it completely by himself (much like Castaway).
It doesn’t surprise me one bit that there’s nothing but praise for Tom Hanks! He is the best of the best. And I’m so glad he won two Oscars. Now, it’s time for another! The world loves you, TH
