More Comic-Con 2011

'Twilight' won't be at Comic-Con, so what will we be complaining about this year?

eclipse-twilightImage Credit: Kimberley FrenchEvery year at the San Diego Comics Convention, you always hear the same gripe: “Isn’t this supposed to be about comic books?” From this perspective, Hollywood has turned what used to be a fanboy Mecca into a marketing platform for decidedly non-comic properties. (This isn’t exactly fair: as EW’s Lynette Rice noted a few weeks ago, an earlier Comic-Con featured a screening of Orson Welles’ Othello.) Angry die-hard comics fans have something to be happy about today, though: Summit Entertainment has just released their Comic-Con schedule, and in a surprising move, the Twilight franchise will not be making an appearance on the panels.

Which means: no more tweeny-boppers wandering around in glittery-white makeup wearing T-shirts that say “Team Jasper” or “Team Riley” or whatever. What’s a hater to do? Not to worry, PopWatchers, at Comic-Con there’s always something to complain about. We’ve analyzed the field and come up with the five things that will be annoying you at this year’s Comic-Con; take a poll after the jump.

Really excited for Comic-Con and glad Twilight wont be there. This is my first time and that was my one worry. Hoping to get a good seat for the JJ Abrams/Joss Whedon panel. It is going to be awesome!

    • Celia

Harry Potter will be there though and they got the biggest hall, which means a lot of cast and crew will also be attending. Sweet!
So excited for the JJ Abrams and Joss panel as well! :D

  • Madd

The fact that Lost won’t be there anymore…so, so sad.

    • avenger

Now this is something to lament..rip Lost, the single greatest tv show ever–I have never cried, smiled, laughed and felt joy as much with any other drama. You will be missed

  • Billy

I wish I could go…. but glad I won’t be there for the “Glee” panel.

  • Sia

Yes haters. But be happy this summer because Twilight’s coming back next year LMAOOO
People need to grow up. Twilight isn’t that bad and it’s women sharing something they love so what?
Old nerdy guys have been doing it for years. But oh let’s hate because it has to do with a love story and these women are obsessed. IT’S NOT THAT BAD GUYS.
Grow some balls and get use to it.

Yeah, “love story”, that’s what we all hate. Not the horrible acting, lame story and the fact that this are not movies but commercials for the gap and tween sensation.. you sound like a 12 year old retard.. or a typical twilight fan, same deal

LOL Well that one guy at comicon pointed out that guys should not hate Twilight and the 12 year olds that are obbsessed with vampires. As he said it, in six years they will be 18 year olds obsessed with vampires and that is something to be thankful for

      LOL

Last year’s comic con got a bit vicious when new moon was making its pressence known. Lots of nerds started shouting “twilight sucks” every time they saw someone wearing a twilight shirt. Others made signs such “NOSFERATU NEVER SPARKLED”,”twilight is not real literature”,and my favorite “Edward is not real, therefore you will never be loved”.. but what I felt more scare for, were for the kids that dressed up like the main characters from the movies.. they got shoved and harrassed a lot.. well, atleast that won’t happen this year now..

    • Anonymous

Now that is disgraceful, you can hate the series but beating on little kids is just wrong!

  • nodnarb

You forgot one: That Suicide Girls are banned from ComicCon this year.

    • Turbo

      What?! Why?! What happened?! :-(

      • nodnarb

No idea. I just heard some friends complaining about.

  • Hugo

I am sad LOST will not be at Comic-Con, but at least Harry Potter will be. HP will be one the highlights of the event. Plus, I am hearing Christopher Nolan might give some deatails about Batman 3

  • James

Instead of saying that Twilight WON’T be there (cry me a river), is there an article somewhere about what WILL be?
Like, the Abrams/Whedon panel. Or the massive Harry Potter set-up, likely with new footage and a Q&A with the cast and crew. Or Nolan giving details on Batman 3. Or even the Glee kids.
But yes, you’re right. Twilight not being there is CLEARLY the big story. Why WOULD it be there? It’s not like they’d have anything new at that point to show.

He speaks the truth. Now its not only things about Twilight, its about things that aren’t Twilight. So lets start the count guys so we can help the r*tards at ew come up with more usless sh*t. For instance, Inception is not about Twilight…Lebron James and the Miami Heat also not about Twilight…the World Cup, again no Twilight…

  • michelle

The twilight haters just need to get over it I’m not 12 and I like the books but I don’t wear shirts or claim to love edward and “o if he were real” its just an escape from reality. I don’t know why people take it so literally and the only reason why I see the movies is because I think robert pattinson is attractive let’s face it the movies aren’t that great

  • Ashley

I’m really excited for Comedy Central’s “Ugly Americans” and “Futurama” panels.

  • Kira

What is Glee doing at Comic-Con? Ugh.
