- Amber Entertainment and Chicagofilms plan to bring Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific to the big screen. Chicagofilms’ Bob Balaban says about the remake, “Our movie will be a tougher, more realistic re-telling of the same classic story.” That doesn’t sound like happy talk! [Variety]
- TBS and Adult Swim have picked up The Cleveland Show for syndication. [Insert talking animal remembering random flashback here.] [Deadline]
- Ralph Fiennes, Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, and Michael Fassbender are set for thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, which is based on John Le Carre’s spy novel. (The book also inspired a TV series in Britain starring Alec Guinness.) [Variety]
- Mark Pellegrino, a.k.a. Lost‘s Jacob, has been tapped to star in SyFy’s series Being Human, which follows a vampire, ghost, and werewolf who all live together. Pellegrino will play the vampire’s mentor, who undoubtedly will send the blood-sucker on a redemptive personal journey, only to reveal six years later that life is all about some light in a cave. [Deadline]

The fact that Fiennes, Oldman, Firth and Fassbender are in the same project is pretty exciting. Then again, I’m sure they could star in a remake of “Three Men and a Baby” (with the chameleonic Oldman as “the Baby”) and it’d be exciting.
True that.
So is Pellegrino playing Herrick or Ivan or who?
Sounds like Herrick, in which case obviously a very different role than Jacob. I haven’t seen him as Lucifer in Supernatural, so it’ll be fun to see him in a role that’s a bit…darker.
Man, Pellegrino must have an amazing agent – he’s been in several of my fave show – “Dexter,” “Supernatural,” and “Lost”! Too bad he hasn’t gotten cast in “True Blood” as a were or something. Originally, I was going to pass on the American remake of “Being Human” bc I love the Brit original so much, but now I might have to give it a peek…
Wait wait wait, what was wrong with the original “Being Human” from the UK? Can’t they just buy the North American rights and show it?
As for the first item, I just watched that show on HBO … you know what would be a really daring thing to do about the South Pacific in WW2? Vaseline Alley on Guadalcanal. Yeah. Look it up. Real place … or so they say. Don’t ask, don’t tell!
How is nobody commenting about the most interesting part of this post? The Cleveland Show getting a syndication deal after one season.
If Being Human follows the BBC version, I don’t think the mentor is a good guy. So this should be interesting.
