So you think you can snub Cat Deeley again, Emmy?

cat-deeleyImage Credit: Mathieu Young/FoxAw hell no, Emmy. Just one year ago, I gave you a slight slap on the wrist for neglecting to nominate Cat Deeley — the enthusiastic, gorgeous, dedicated host of So You Think You Can Dance — for Outstanding Reality Show Host. And now, today, I’m feeling the worst kind of déjà vu — and thinking maybe this time around you need a swift kick in the a–. Because, once again, you’ve somehow forgotten all about the statuesque presenter, instead opting to give another shot at the trophy to the likes of Ryan Seacrest and Heidi Klum. Really, Emmy? Seacrest and Heidi? Over Cat? Did you see Seacrest try to persuade Didi Benami to play the dead-friend card on the latest season of Idol after she sang “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted”?

I suppose the reason Cat’s snub stings even harder this year is that it comes one day after the host had one of her shining-est moments ever — justly (and quite bravely) standing up to the judges (including boss Nigel Lythgoe) after they bestowed a critique on AdéChiké that clashed with their praise for the overrated Jose. Seriously, the moment was so choice, it gave me Cat Deeley chills. We’re talking about a woman who is not only a consummate professional (any fan of the reality series will tell you that Deeley is 100 percent checked in to every single episode) but a consummate pal — the woman even invites all her SYTYCD contestants to her July 4th barbecue each year! Anyhow, Emmy powers-that-be, please keep last night’s episode in mind when you’re making decisions for the 2011 nominations, okay? Because I might be proficient in the martial arts by then, and I might just have to break some bones, okay?

As Slezak said while we were expressing our rage today over this news, “Cat should not only have been nominated this year, but she should be the front-runner to win.” Can I get a “hear, hear!”? Emmy might have snubbed you, Cat, but let us devoted fans be the real jidges of talent this year. See you at the EWwys!

    Probst is the man!

    • mary q contrary

Okay, I just watched tonight’s elimination episode, and that woman has so much heart, and so much rapport with the contestants. God, I am just infuriated with her lack of a nomination! She freaking teared up (as did I), and rightfully so. It was a devastating loss, and I felt emotion coming from her in waves. Grrrr. I was prepared to be mad at Chandler, Britton, and Fox snubs, but now, I think I’m actually madder about this than I would have been about those. The woman deserves not only a nomination, but a win. Period.

    • Jethro

Why is Heidi Klum even nominated when she has 3 people to her right that actually do the real judging. Her involvement is the minimalistic of all hosts nominated, yes even Ryan.

Heidi does nothing more than say Hello….see you on the runway, please emmy voters, do something more than just nominate the same hosts year after year.
Just like no single judge on Top Chef is singled out, no one on PR should be as well.

  • Rachel K

Agreed! The snub was like a kick to the teeth.

    • Ceballos

Speaking of teeth, I still remember the moment a few years ago when she actually put Twitch’s “grill” in her mouth after he’d worn them during a performance. I remember thinking then that this woman deserved some sort of award!

She’s smart, funny, super supportive of the contestants and keeps the show moving. It’s a crime that she’s never been nominated.

      • Rachel K

Yes, she deserved an award after that. It was so deliciously awesome and awkward at the same time.

    • scobes

Cat deserved a win last year and a DEFINITE win this year.

      • Jethro

You have to be nominated to win….duh!!!

    • meg

Cat’s the best. I realized there was actually a value to reality show hosts from watching her; never understood the hoopla surrounding Seacrest or Probst.

    • jared4ever

Shoking that she wasn’t nominated. She’s the best host on TV. Charming, funny and genuine. All the things Ryan Seacrest is not.

      • jared4ever

        I meant “Shocking”

    • Nick T

I get more and more cynical about the Emmys every year. Cat Deely is light years more cool than Seacrest. And her clothes are UHMAZIN’!

    • RK

Maybe it was more like a kick to the crooked nose she has.

      • jared4ever

You’re retarded. Cat Deeley is BEAUTIFUL.

      • RK

I can’t get by the crooked nose. It just puts everything off.

      • elr

So what if her nose is crooked. She is a beautiful woman.

    • Niix Starkyller

I’ll repeat something I said many moons ago: Cat Deeley is an alien from the planet Awesome.

      Dear Emmys: You suck.

    • newhouf

Cat Deeley is an AMAZING host… she is sharp, quick witted, lovable, and an overall wonderful person to the contestants. I was cheering yesterday when she stuck up for AdeChike as well!! I am dismayed that she has not gotten nominated and was thrilled to see this article on EW… at least we all appreciate her! Hopefully she will get her recognition some day!

  • Juan Art

Absolutely, no doubt. I watch Survivor and TAR. I like these guys but they dont HOST more than ‘anchor’ the show, sort of like the foot on the floor after a night of drinking. Seacrap is pure annoyance and Heidi is an ice princess. HARFLY emmy-winning material. Cat is the consumate hostess in that she tends to the judges, the audience, the contestants. Heck, even guest artists! She is the biggest snub of the year and if they dont decide to recognize her next year they should just cancel the category all together.

    • elr

I totally agree with everything you said. HEAR! HEAR!

  • J

    I’ve been waiting for this.

But seriously, this was the biggest Emmy snub of all! They’d rather give a nom to Seacrest?! Even with Cat’s two seasons of SYTYCD hosting from 2009?!

    • katy

Seacrest was an epic fail this year. Erratic behavior, insults, awkward segues, and soul-crushing contestant interviews.

      • J

No kidding. He definitely contributed to the train wreck of this past season of AI.
And then juxtapose him with Cat. Beautiful charisma, genuine concern for contestants, cleverly cheeky comments, and well-directed questions/interviews… It should be a no-brainer…

      • Shawn

        I’m so sick of Ryan

      • Valley Girl

Seacrest is such a tool. Cat was robbed of a nomination!

      • JP

If I never see him again I won’t be anywhere near sad.

      • Stef

Plus him going over by like 5 minutes each episode! Cat would never let that happen!

    • close

not quite, the biggest snub of all was SURVIVOR HEROES VERSUS VILLAINS, one of the best shows of this year

      • J

No thank you. I’d take Cat and SYTYCD any day.

      • Maddie

uh heck yes! This was the best season of survivor ever and Probst is just all kinds of awesome. He has learned how to deal with and manipulate these big personalities (Coach, Russell,Courtney, etc.) to make tribal council exciting and awesome. Personally, I think they should take out Seacrest and Heidi and put in Cat and Chris Harrison

    • Zach

Seriously, you’d think the two seasons should double her odds.

    • CATE

The ONE time I tuned into Idol this season I caught Seacreast hinting to that sad girl to talk about “why she selected that song” It was aweful. Cat is so genuine and poised. I love Cat. I mean, I love “It’s Cat!”

  • Josie

I was just thinking that while reading over the nominees. The way she handles herself during the auditions should be enough to get her nominated. She is funny, quick on her feet, happy to put up with almost anything, but willing to lay down the law.

  • Adam

I could not agree more. Cat was robbed.

    • graeme

Yup, She makes me smile so much. Her quick wit, improvisational skills, and her repore with the contestants is second to known.

  • Kel

Kate, you just expressed my exact thoughts. I vote Cat Deeley as Emmy-worthy!

  • Trey

I 100% agree. I have never seen a host have the b*lls to call out the judges like that, and do it professionally, not snarky. She is definately the best. Hopefully next year.

    • Kay

When she did that I was like “Heck Yeah!”

  • ali427

Couldn’t agree more! Cat just gets better and better–genuine, sincere, articulate, while Seacrest has become progressively wooden, irrelevant, and disconnected from the contestants. This is truly a travesty. If Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler weren’t FINALLY nominated, I’d be more livid. Next year, Cat!

  • mary q contrary

Hear, Hear! The woman deserves it SO much. Frankly, it’s kind of ridiculous that Heidi got another nom. I mean, I kind of love her and everything, and I dutifully watch Project Runway, but really, is she a host, or a judge at this point? I think Tim definitely qualifies more as a host, and Heidi is definitely more of a judge.

  • aby

Heck yeah!!!! Best host out there. Emmy is just jealous of her and refuse to give her the recognition that she rightly deserves. Absolute worst snub this year.

  • nate

How about they just make the statue for best reality host in the shape of Cat Deeley. She’s beautiful and the perfect example of a great reality host.

    • Steve from DE

      /seconded

  • melissa

Cat is so fantastic. She should have been nominated, at least.

  • AliB

It makes no sense that hosts of live shows (or even taped live shows if you know what I mean) like Cat Deeley and Tom Bergeron are in the same category as hosts whose shows are edited, like Survivor and Project Runway. Cat never gets a second take – and never needs one. Shame on Emmy!

    • Melissa

That’s a really good point that hosting a live show is incredibly different from a taped program. As many others have mentioned, comparing live show hosts – looking at how awkward Ryan Seacrest was this year compared to the classy, fun, and professional Cat… It’s a travesty. Always #1 in my heart, Cat! :)

    • orville

That is such a good point. Bergeron especially is so good on his feet during the live show.

As much as I love Probst, this category should have been a two person battle between Cat and Tom for the past several seasons. They’re absolutely the best in the biz.

  • darclyte

“Emmy might have snubbed you, Cat, but let us devoted fans be the real jidges of talent this year.”
Yep, she got snubbed, but you still might want to correct that misspelling.

    • kate

It’s not a misspelling. That’s how Cat pronounces it!

    • john t.

it’s intentional. the way Cat says “judges” sometimes sounds like she’s saying “jidges.” it’s an inside joke :)

    • @ darclyte

You’re obviously not a regular follower of the SYTYCD recap, huh?

    • Tee

I think she wrote it that way to make it sounds like the way Cat says it, “please welcome your jidges”

      • orville

Not that Cat has actually said the famous phrase for several seasons now. It’s that much a part of the show now.

      • chris b

It’s her accent, much as the same way she says “A”S at the end of people’s names, i.e. “Hey everybody, It’s Melisser”.

    • jennrae

Damn, people are always so quick to point out other people’s mistakes when in actuality they have no idea what they’re talking about.
