Rolls eyes at whining.
People, it is an alternate story line. Please stop talking trash and go read the JMS interviews. I bet half these whiners never picked up a WW comic and supported it but are quick to go I like her costume as it is.
fact is the people who pulled the comic pulled cause it is an anniversary issue and are intrigued by JMS’s story line.
She is hot and campussocialnetwork
I always am curious whenever a big-name superhero dies (although death in comics is at most a temporary setback) or gets a revamped look in their comic book (i.e. “Electric” Superman), so I really wanted “Wonder Woman” issue 600 (this time, though, since all comic shops nearby have gone out of business, I had to look for it online. D’oh!) However, I heard that the real reason they changed the costume wasn’t too “cover her up” as much as it was actually to de-emphasize the way the costume has traditionally resembled the American flag. Supposedly, they changed it so that Wonder Woman will have more “international appeal”(maybe they’re thinking of countries like France that aren’t big fans of the U.S.A.) I wonder if right-wing talk shows are getting on DC’s case for this?
Just like I said. Look at what DC did to the Catwoman movie. And Batgirl in Batman forever and of course Birds of Prey. They get these writers that totally hack the characters. DC is in my opinion sucks ass now. Wonder Woman has always been my favorite superheroine. This version is NOT Diana. DC sure knows how to screw up. I think her creator would have a coronary. And who the hell cares what other countries think about the american flag. It used to mean something in this country just like Wonder Woman did. They are clearly losing fans with the dim witted writers they hire with no creativity. You need to keep the origin true to how she was created. That is why she has been so iconic all these years. Its the dumbass writers who cant seem to come up with a good rogue gallery for her. Her power of flight was the only thing good they have done and of course losing the high heels. Keep her true. DC?! UP YOURS!
I don’t care what happens in the comic, but when the Wonder Woman movie finally gets made (please, please) it better damn well have the original origin story and the original costume. The cynical side of me says they changed the costume ONLY to raise the chances of a movie actually getting produced(in other words, it must be hard to find an actress that can wear the original costume in a commanding way — hello Ms. Carter — but the new costume opens up their casting choices).
It was a controversial move and alteration to a character that has been a part of the American culture for over fifty years. And a lot of people were shocked and even a bit outraged that the character had been altered to such an almost unrecognizable degree. Tons of controversy and with that tons of coverage. And so that one single solitary Wonder Woman comic book sold out. My suggestion would be to take a look at the next six issues of that comic book and see how the number of sales for them go.
DC has stated that the costume change is permanent, and even though in the 600th issue it was played off as something of an imaginary story, DC upper management is adamant that the costume change to that Legion of Substitute 90′s X-Men will be the costume that Wonder Woman wears from this point on.
And from the information that has been provided by DC it just isn’t known if the other changes in this “imaginary” story will be made a permanent canon for the character from this point forward. Changes like:
1. Eradicating vast parts of her original origin.
2. Getting rid of the majority of her well established supporting cast.
3. Stripping the majority of her superhuman abilities away, to the point where she’d be lucky to qualify to be Robin’s sidekick.
The storyline will reach it’s conclusion and then the editorial decision will be made about just how “real” the story was and how many of the changes implemented in this “imaginary” story will be made canon.
And in the end aren’t the vast majority of all comic book stories in the category of “imaginary”?
Thinking the change in costume and backstory for Wonder Woman is permanent is like thinking The Last Airbender is the greatest movie of all time…..NOT GONNA HAPPEN! This change in the costume and origin is an alternate reality tale and publicity stunt to get more attention to the Wonder Woman title. And look what’s happened…people are talking of it and buying the issue #600 out of curiousity. They did what they set out to do. Now the trick is keeping those people who bought it onboard for follow-up issues…doubtful since the sales of the title have languished for awhile…and that’s a shame. Wonder Woman should be regarded and selling as well as the Superman and Batman books. This storyline’s writer J. Michael Straczynski has gone on to say in interviews that this will be the new look for W.W. for the long haul, but I can’t agree. I don’t care who you are as a writer, artist, whatever, when it comes to the more iconic characters like Superman, Batman, Spider-man, or Wonder Woman, the classic look will ALWAYS WIN-OUT.
This storyline will go for probably a year then sometime thereafter a switch back to the Wonder Woman we know. I’m buying this book and the follow-up for at least 2 issues more. If it’s good enough I’ll buy more…if not then I won’t. Interesting story idea, but I don’t realistically see it lasting beyond J.M.S.’ run on the comic.
The changes by DC stink. Wonder Woman and the fans deserve better. But at the end of the day, DC only cares about $$$.
I don’t think that the costume should be changed, it is just fine. Superman’s costume has never changed, only the person in the costume. It has nothing to do with exploiting women, I am a woman, an abbit Marvel Comics reader and I love Linda Carter. Oh and by the way, I am not gay, in fact I have been married for 21 years. Me and my brother have been watching since we were little kids. Change is not always good. Besides it’s ugly, the pants and jacket don’t look American Flag enough.
I have always been a Wonder Woman fan since I was a kid. I don’t want Wonder Womans costume messed with I like it the way it was with her headband and wrist band and her golden lasso and boots and her top and shorts in the original series. I loved Lynda playing Wonder Woman in the original series. Keep Wonder Woman the way she was back in the 70′s or 80′s whenever it was on. I also watched the Wonder Woman cartoon the Justice League with Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman and the rest.
I’ve read the book since George Perez’s brilliant reboot in the 80′s and was sickened by DC’s decision to allow all the still untapped potential Perez sowed during his legendary run to be pissed away.
Of course, I shouldn’t be surprised by the book’s new direction. JMS is the same writer who totally ruined the late Gwen Stacy by ret-conning a story twist that had her bedding Spiderman’s greatest foe and giving birth to his illegitimate twins.
As for the new costume — ugh.
its not the new look because thats bad. its the art and the writers. wonder women has good stories and great art a few times a year. i love the old wonder women look just give the fans some story and art. not just wonder women vs the gods or more amazons.
ok…i have missed something. please explain the ‘ain’t go no pancake mix’ bc i LOVE IT and i need a reference point!!
you’re right, she’s got no pancake mix. She goes home to a pack of gorillas and maybe a couple of lesbionic sisters.
