Those who only think of Liza Minnelli as a friend to Michael Jackson or the wife of David Gest can learn to appreciate her booming personality and signature Liza-isms, thanks to a recent string of high-profile appearances, including a rendition of BeyoncĂ©’s “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” in Sex and the City 2. This week, she entertained callers on the Home Shopping Network, promoting her clothing and jewelry line, The Liza Collection. Enjoy a compilation of clips from her appearance, courtesy of Four Four:
Her voice! Her expressions! (“It’s purty!) Her compliments to the HSN callers! (“It’s thrilling to talk to you, and I’ll remember it!” and “You’re my mentor too!”) All this, plus her wise fashion philosophies (“The woman should wear the dress, not the dress wear the woman”) and scarf-draping techniques, are like gifts from the heavens, helping me make it to the holiday weekend.
But it was really her acting lesson with Kathy Griffin on My Life on the D List that made me fall in love (with an “L”) with Liza. She schooled Kathy on bringing emotion and conviction to her character, memorizing an entire monologue after one reading, all while keeping her cigarette intact and the end of her dainty finger. (Fun fact: On Watch What Happens Live, Kathy Griffin explained that Liza calls out “Ashtray!” to her assistants when she smokes around her penthouse…and of course they come running.) To quote an eager HSN caller, Liza “is there anything you can’t do?”
If you missed it a few weeks ago, here’s a clip from the season premiere of My Life on the D-List (Is she wearing the same outfit? Who cares! She’s Liza!):
Arrested Development fans: Don’t you agree that Lucille 2 deserves more of the spotlight? Let’s think up ideas for her own reality show, hypothetically titled Life! with Liza (on Bravo, of course). It could be the perfect vehicle to 1) Remind audiences what a talented performer she is, and 2) Pimp out The Liza Collection. What do you think, PopWatchers? Are you loving Liza Minnelli as much as I am these days?

Although Liza is obviously entertaining as hell to watch, it’s kind of a shame how much we’ve lowered our expectations.
Instead of pleading for Liza to land a role on a show that could actually utilize her talent (ala “AD”) we’re calling for her to land…a reality show.
I guess that’s just how 2010 rolls.
Uh, how about we get her to ACT in something? Don’t forget, she is a fantastic performer. If the AD film ever happens, I hope to God Lucille 2 is in it.
My feeling is not so much that TV/movie execs are ashamed to meet with her…they’re ashamed to be SEEN meeting with her.
Get her a reality show… wih CLUB SAUCE
NO REALLY I MEAN STOP! I’m dizzy!
How grand!
I knew society wouldn’t accept this. And they never will.
I want to see her act, bring on AD movie. She is so much fun on screen, who wants to ruin our idea of her with a reality show?
Even with all of her health problems, she is still beautiful.
I wonder how she does it.
I love Liza and would be happy for either a reality show or a great acting role. The AD movie would be great. She is always so genuinely funny without even necessarily trying to be…plus she is genuinely sweet.
One more thing..her appearance on Kathy Griffin was awesome! My husband and I really appreciated it.
Darings…there will NEVER be another Liza!
DARLINGS
All I see is a brownish area, with points.
I always think of Sinatra first.
She is funny and TheSexHookup was the best movie
Does anyone remember what a Great Film actress she was/is? This is one of the great talents of Hollywood ever. She should do great parts & great theatre. Not this. Just wanted to make a point. I love her dearly & met her many, many times. She is one of the most loving stars I ever met.
