King Kong charges into Universal Studios -- in 3-D! -- in this exclusive first look

kong-dino-tramWhen an accidental fire torched a large section of the famed Universal Studios backlot in 2008, the giant animatronic King Kong that had terrorized countless visitors on the famed studio tram tour in Los Angeles was one of the most high-profile burn victims. But with the old-school jumbo gorilla reduced to a charred hunk of plaster and metal, director Peter Jackson lept at the opportunity to re-make the King Kong attraction in the image of his 2005 behemoth movie remake, replete with as much state-of-the-art technology as possible.

The result is King Kong 360 3-D, opening at Universal Studios Hollywood July 1. READ FULL STORY »

'Despicable Me' posters despicably telling me nothing about the movie

despicable-meYes, I’ve seen the trailers for July 9′s Despicable Me. But I’m still not entirely convinced that the movie isn’t just about those little yellow eggs you find inside of Kinder Surprises. Because the streets of New York are filled with movie posters featuring these creatures — and nothing else. Where is Gru, the evil “villain” voiced by Carell in the film? Apparently, he’s getting his minions to do all his publicity work for him too. What a diva.

Based solely on these posters, what would you think Despicable Me is about, PopWatchers? (Shrunken Homer Simpson heads?) Have the ads piqued your curiosity? And what species are those minions anyway? (P.S. For further explanation of the plot, check out this exclusive clip from the movie.)

What did I do wrong, @Ryan_Kwanten?

Ryan Kwanten: Bob Charlotte /PR Photos

I thought Ryan Kwanten and I had something — for a minute. At 7:30 p.m. ET last night, to be precise. That’s when I received a Twitter notification that the actor who plays Jason Stackhouse on True Blood was my newest follower. I went to his page, saw it had just been created yesterday as “the official Ryan Kwanten Twitter account,” and allowed myself to think that he or whoever is handling it for him, but what fun is that? had been touched by my suggestion that Jason’s new motto, “Conscience Off, Dick On,” should be on a poster after the season 3 premiere, as well as my sincere appreciation for his performance in Week 2 (“Bravo to Ryan Kwanten for being totally enjoyable in this episode, while managing to keep his clothes on”). I don’t have thousands of followers — which is why I get notifications of new ones (so I can block anyone whose profile picture is her ass) and why I tend to notice when I lose one. Within minutes, Kwanten had unfollowed me. What did I do wrong, Ryan? READ FULL STORY »

Neil Patrick Harris confirmed for 'A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas'

Harold-Kumar-Neil-PatrickImage Credit: Jaimie TruebloodA rep for Neil Patrick Harris confirmed to EW that America’s favorite dancer/Dr./hallucinogenics enthusiast will be back for 2011′s A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, which counts a waffle-making robot as one of its other main characters and is totally being filmed in a Michigan mall. We thought he died after Beverly D’Angelo shot him in the back outside a brothel, but a secret clip during the end credits suggested otherwise.

An early script suggested Kelly Ripa should cameo alongside NPH as the co-host of a television Christmas special, but Ripa has not yet been confirmed for the film. Either way, Harris will really need to step up his game from ecstasy and mushrooms. I don’t really know any other drugs, so you tell me which one NPH should sample next.

Unforgettable movie songs: Which are YOUR top 10?

the-bodyguardImage Credit: Everett CollectionThere’s no way anyone is going to look at Spinner’s list of the 77 Most Unforgettable Movie Songs and say, “Yes, that is so right. I agree with everything.” It. Just. Won’t. Happen.

With the subjectivity of such a list understood, I think it’s important to define “Unforgettable Movie Song” by two very important factors: (1) The song still makes you feel the same emotions you felt when watching the scene it played in or the movie itself. (2) Your own memories with said song don’t overshadow the fact that it originated from a movie. Example: I remember “What a Wonderful World” (No. 33) as the song I sang at my kindergarten graduation (doesn’t everyone?) more than as the song from Good Morning Vietnam. Similar reasoning has knocked “Stand By Me” (No. 25), “Gangsta’s Paradise” (No. 77), “Mrs. Robinson” (No. 12), and “Bohemian Rhapsody” (No. 1, which we all likely remember more for the many times we’ve made a fool of ourselves trying to re-enact Wayne’s World) from my top 10.

With that, here’s my (power song heavy) top 10. As Spinner’s countdown, this does not include musicals. Share yours after the jump. READ FULL STORY »

'Eclipse' L.A. premiere: Rob, Kristen and Taylor hit the red carpet

pattinson-stewart-lautnerFans were waiting with bated breath — some since Monday at 6 a.m. — for the big L.A. premiere of Eclipse, the third installment of the Twilight series, for those of you living under rocks. The franchise’s trio, Rob Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner walked the red carpet, and, I must say, their fashion choices have me feeling mixed.

On the one hand, Pattinson dared to be different in a maroon (!) Gucci suit. The risk had a huge payoff though, since the actor looked dashingly dapper, which was thanks, in part, to his new ‘do. (Though you could tell he, or someone from his team, made sure to get maximum height out of his new cropped look for the sake of all the Twi-Hards.)

Stewart’s asymmetrical Elie Saab mini was nice in theory — its cut was edgy and, more importantly, it wasn’t black — but overall, it looked more like she was missing a sleeve than making a statement, not to mention the fact that, for someone with porcelain skin like that, ivory isn’t really the go-to color. I wish she would’ve worked a brighter hue, which we know she can most certainly do.

Meanwhile, Lautner was clearly on his way to a meeting with J.P. Morgan, judging by his business-style suit suit. Isn’t he the one with the most red carpet charisma?

Elsewhere on the red carpet, Dakota Fanning looked, once again, lovely, but, once again, the same.

What do you guys think of the Eclipse fashion? Who has the best look?

Drake and Jimmy Kimmel's 'Tweet Tweet': They want your update

Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live! host Jimmy Kimmel collaborated with rapper Drake to come up with the perfect summer song. Even though Drake’s Thank Me Later came in at number one on the Billboard charts this week, Kimmel still thought it important to lend some songwriting advice to the young Canadian. iPad in hand, he scoffed at Drake’s wimpy paper notepad, teaching him that the Internet — more importantly Twitter — provides all the material you’ll ever need to write a hit track. Enjoy after the jump the duo’s result, “Tweet Tweet,” dedicated to President Obama and his “Twitters“: READ FULL STORY »

'Real Housewives of New Jersey': Caroline Manzo's big weight loss

Caroline-ManzoCaroline Manzo of The Real Housewives of New Jersey is turning heads after recently losing 20 pounds. Despite the never ending Italian meals her family and friends seem to enjoy regularly, Manzo has taken control of her body through an emphasis on portion control. “I eat what I want. I just eat the bad things earlier on in the day,” she told People at the New York premiere of Grown Ups on Wednesday, before adding, “Don’t think pasta will never be a friend of me.” Okay, just kidding, she actually said this: “If I want pasta, I have it for lunch instead of for dinner. That’s all. If I want a piece of cheesecake, I have half instead of a whole.” Sounds easy enough, right? Manzo also attributes her new figure to 45 minutes to an hour of exercise at least 3 times a week, cutting out soda and juice from her diet, and drinking lots and lots of water. (I knew there was a catch).

Kudos to Caroline for making healthy changes (and just in time for the upcoming Housewives reunion special!?). But I can’t help but wonder, will this really put an end to the Manzo family “ham game”?

'Party Down' parties with Jane Lynch in tonight's season finale

Party-Down-StarzImage Credit: Starz EntertainmentTonight’s Party Down season finale is destined to be bittersweet. Even more bittersweet than regular episodes of the show. It’s the end of an up-and-down second season, and that’d be bummer enough, but it’s also star Adam Scott’s last episode as the show’s central character. (Should Party return for a third season, Scott’s adorable misanthrope Henry will only appear in three episodes, since Scott has joined the cast of Parks and Recreation.) But dry those tears, fellow followers of the Ron Donald Dos and Don’ts: Tonight’s finale marks the triumphant return of one Ms. Jane Lynch as Constance Carmell. And it’s her wedding.
