'Party Down' is no more: All good things must come to an end, I guess...

party-downImage Credit: Colleen Hayes/StarzWe all knew it was coming, but Starz finally made it official: Party Down will party no more. The recently concluded second season will be the brilliant show’s last. Cue my Ron Donaldson-level tears.

Party Down is one of my favorite shows of the last few years, and easily my most rewatched series since, oh, West Wing. I’m crushed that it’s ending, but…I’m not sure a Party Down without Henry was a show I wanted to watch. Megan Mullally stepped into her role about as well as anyone could have, and I still missed Constance all season — imagining the same scenario with Henry is enough to convince me that maybe this is the right time to say adios to the show. Henry was the beating heart of the series, and while theoretically it could have survived without his cynical (yet charming!) commentary, is that really the Party Down I want? It’s just not.

So happy trails, Party Down. You had a great run — a terrific two seasons that I will quote forever and will recommend to people for years and years. I will call lemons “sun eggs” in your honor. It was great while it lasted, but we all knew it wouldn’t last.

Are you as bummed out as I am, PopWatchers? Is this the end of Veronica Mars all over again?

I wish they would just do an Office-esque 90 minute special to wrap things up. But, even if they don’t, I’m still fine with where it stopped.

I would like that too. Love Party Down. It is such a classic!

Party Down and Better Off Ted would have made terrific book ends for some lucky cabler. Too bad we have had to say goodbye to both!

I’m crushed that this show is being cancelled. It had brilliant wry humor, witty comedy and fantastic characters. I’ve been making all my friends watch the first season on DVD in one shot and it’s just awesome. This blows

“I can out act you with one emotion tied behind my back.”

There couple of fnniisatcag points in time in this article but I do not determine if these center to heart. There may possibly be some validity but I’m going to take hold opinion until I take a look at it further. Very good write-up , thanks therefore we want much more! Combined with FeedBurner at exactly the same time

NOOOOOOO! I just got into this show!!! It was brilliant! Why is Henry not coming back? Yes they need another episode to wrap things up because we don’t even know if Henry gets the part he auditions for! Does Casey make it? And what about Ron?! This is awful!!!

i just died a little inside.

NOOOOOOOO!!! I literally just finished watching the finale like 5 minutes ago.
So sad, but maybe it’s for the best. Henry and Casey’s relationship was the heart & soul of the series, and as much as I love the show and everyone else in it, it wouldn’t be the same without him.
A wrap up special/movie would be a lovely send off.

Man! Really??? Great while it lasted.

The perfect sentiment for this shi%%y news.

seriously this is such a let-down. yes, knew it was coming, but what a shame. i do not understand how these amazing gems of tv shows aren’t given a chance to shine amongst all the crap that’s out there. sad.

  • Whirljack

It’s too bad this show couldn’t have had another season with an intact cast. It’s one of the funniest comedies that have been on TV in a while. Remember, people, there’s always DVDs!

So we all have the pile of dung that is “The Office” still on and they cancel “Party Down”? This is a bad move on the part of Starz. The made a strong foot with “Spartacus” and now they cancel their best comedy, which by the way is the best workplace comedy on television since “Cheers” and “Night Court”. Ken Marino can do anything – get him a show. They should spin off “Ron” and “Danielle”. Their budding romance was so perfect and so funny to watch. Losing “Casey” and “Henry”, a couple on a show that you rooted for and was written realistically, kills a really good tv show romance. “Gravity” was a little macabre but Krysten Ritter made the show immensely watchable. That show ended on an enormous cliff hanger. This is bad news indeed. At least “Futurama” is back, some good news.

Nooooooo. Henry should have never gone to the Velour audition.
