Most Satisfying 'Wipeout' of the Week: Renaissance Man

A lady won ABC’s Wipeout last night! Not just a lady, but “New Mom,” because everyone on Wipeout needs a memorable-for-44-minutes moniker that viewers can latch onto and real names are irrelevant on game shows in which objects repeatedly fly at one’s nose. Whoa, I just realized that what this show is missing is Amber from Clueless on the sidelines, just bitching the whole time about the big balls.

This week’s Most Satisfying Wipeout, a prestigious honor right up there with Dancing With the Stars‘ MVG (most valuable gem), goes to “Renaissance Man,” a Shakespeare-quoting buffoon who kept screaming things like “House of Capulet!!!!!!” out of context. Hey, I guess we do know his real name. Renaissance Man had a special knack for “propeller legs” a la Luigi in Super Mario Bros. 2. He will barely be missed.

To be or not to be on board with Wipeout, P-dubs? That is the question.

Wipeout is my favorite summer show. But wasn’t “new mom” also on last Thursday’s show? I thought I was watching a rerun for a minute. Nevertheless, the Big Balls never get old!!! Long live Wipeout!

Last week was won by Sugar Mama. The Fling Set is a keeper too.

    • Liz

Yes last week was sugar mama. I liked renaissance man and was rooting for him. His random shouts of “House of CAPULETTTTTT” made the hour really wonderful.

I love this show. The more messed up the falls were the better. I was laughing my head off the whole time. WIPEOUT HOORAY!

“To wipeout or not to wipeout, that is the question”

We, at our house, are very happy that it is on 2 nights a week. We love watching. I think both Johns are hilarious.

Annie, you’ve got to embed the clips. The stills just don’t do it.

      (Respectfully submitted)

Can you add a clip next time?

I love this show. It’s a good laugh for an hour (two if you watch both nights). Great summer fun indeed.

Why do you pick the lamest contestants and wipeouts from the last two weeks?? The one one the Big Balls where the guy’s legs bent back and nearly kicked him in the head was by far the best.

Whatever happened to “I survived a Japanese Game Show”? That and Wipeout used to be the highlights of brainless summer TV. HAI MAJIDE!!!

    • Liz

Agreed! I also like I Survived a Japanese game show. My favorite things about summer TV is that I love it when it’s on but I don’t miss it when it’s not.

It seems everybody will get knocked into the water by the first set of spikes. Are they manually controlled?

  • Ripley

Wow. Spoiler Alert. Thanks for giving away the winner under the headline on the home page. Not all of us are glued to our tv in the summer.

    • Liz

This cracks me up. I really hope you are kidding.

I loved “Renaissance Man” and I wanted him to win.

I really like this show I would like to participate. If anyone knows about it how to please let me know.

  • Why would you need to know my name?!!

I wish the Renaissance Man could have one! He is by far my ultimate favorite person from Wipeout so far!

I’ve really lost almost complete interest in this show. There’s apparently now no way to complete it cleanly. All the obstacles seem to be manually operated to the point that a contestant can’t take two steps without being foiled. Part of the suspense of the show is whether someone will actually beat the obstacle. A wipeout is no fun when you know it’s always coming. I’m glad other people still enjoy this, but it got old very quickly to me. I loved the first 2 seasons, but the impossible obstacles and over the top characters (much moreso than previous seasons) have ruined it for me.
