Jay Chou is good!~
rogen is raping a classic superhero in a pathetic attempt to extend his dying, one trick pony career by an extra minute of fame. his time has come and gone. this movie cost over 100 million to make, and he can’t even bring in 30 by himself anymore. this will be his career killer, and good riddance.
One trick pony career? I’m assuming you’ve only watched one or two movies with Seth Rogen if even that much. If you had seen Funny People you’d know he plays against type, and does it very well.
However, if you don’t like the casting just remember that it wasn’t just Rogen’s choice to pick this up, he couldn’t just go out and say, “I’m making Green Hornet in my image and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.” The studio picked him based on his (and his collaborator’s) pitch. If you don’t like the idea of Rogen playing Hornet then blame the studio for picking their pitch.
As the Spider-Man, X-Men and various off-brand movies have demonstrated, Hollywood has absolutely no idea how to make a pulp or comic book movie. It always gets turned into crappy CGI, a near-total abandonment of actual character material and the tendency to treat action sequences like they’re from Triple-X. The Green Hornet will be another in a long line of Hollywood mismanagement; overall if you want to see something about the actual Green Hornet and not a chubby Canadian stoner dressed up like him, watch the old show with Van Williams.
EW needs to do their research. Green Hornet is not a comic book hero. Originally the character was created as a radio show in the 1930s, predating Batman. He’s actually an updated version of the Lone Ranger. Seth did a pretty good job on this film. Some parts were funny; others were so stupid as to need a serious edit. The story was fair — I really wish they played the film straight rather than as a comedy. Loved the end credits, great soundtrack.
