The trailer for The Green Hornet, the adaptation of the comic book hero who masquerades as a villain in his fight for good, has hit the Web. Seth Rogen is the titular hero, Cameron Diaz his snappy secretary (thank you, Rogen & Co., for not hiring some 21-year-old newbie instead), and Oscar winner Christoph Waltz looks interesting as the ultimate crime lord. The delightful Michel Gondry is at the helm, which is just one more refreshing bit of the unexpected.
When Rogen’s character Britt, whom IMDB describes as the “debonair newspaper publisher,” hears of his father’s death, Rogen assumes his sad face, which made me kind of want to tickle his tummy and make him laugh. I most easily took him seriously in the early party scenes — Britt begins the movie as a boozing, privileged buffoon to his father’s stoic crusader — and when he was gasping in that nasal, froggy wheeze over gadgetry. That said, I believe I may have found a new crush in Jay Chou, who plays the Green Hornet’s inventive wing man Kato. (One desperate plea: Just as women should stop tripping or getting oopsy drunk in romantic comedies, the guys have gotta stop with the “no touching, dude” bit. It’s tired and mean.)
PopWatchers, what say you? Does this trailer do the job for you? Are you excited to see Seth Rogen whup ass? What rom-com or action movie tropes do you want to see die a quick death?

Can you say “irrelevant”?
Both the Green Hornet (most kids will scratch their heads on that one) and Seth Rogen, who wore out his overrated welcome a couple of years ago.
I bet $ this will flop.
I’ll take that bet.
Dude, its in 3D. It must be good.
Yeah, unknown DC comics superhero movie has never failed before, right? RIGHT?
Yeah, you really went out and supported The Losers, didn’t you Poop?
Maybe you didn’t research the title thoroughly enough and thought it might be your life story?
green hornet isn’t a dc comics character and was originally a radio serial. Dc might own it now but I don’t even think that’s the case. I’m pretty stoked, the 3d most likely wont be that great because I dont believe this was FILMED in 3d so like Alice, it will be multi layers of 2d, but whatever
It’s being released in January it must stink. Does anyone remember when Elektra was released. January is where they put the stinkers. If it was half way decent they would release in December.
got excited…… then saw the in 3D at the end and my excitement went down… my local theatre better be showing in it in 2D as well, so sick of all this 2D converted to 3D nonsense
Can I get some of that too?
I see a hit
guys green hornet is owned by marvel
Okay sorry, Green Hornet is not DC but is certainly not Marvel. I thought it was because of the TV show which had a Batman crossover. But my (sarcastic point remains. Ever heard of a movie called Jonah Hex?
P.S. I have no idea what you’re trying to say KC.
Green Hornet rules if only because of its theme music… you the man, Al Hirt!
It certainly makes more sense to remake something “irrelevant” than something that came out 5 years ago, so I’m down with this.
Why do I think that the studio chose Seth Rogen over Jack Black or Will Farrell? They were intending to cast a bad leading actor from the get go.
Seth and his writing partner, Evan, were hired as writers first. They probably chose to go with Seth as an actor because it would be cheaper than hiring someone else since he was already involved.
B O M B
hey man, be quiet, that dude is hysterical. who gives a damn what he looks like, its about damn time someone who isnt some “manly action hero” type isnt a superhero. Think Tobey Maguire, he’s got a funny voice but he’s a badass too.
Or Pinky and the Brain. Take your pick. “Dood!”
Williams and Lee. Never replaced.
Not a huge Rogan fan, but I think it looks pretty slick. Love Tom Wilkenson, so too bad he gets whacked. Bummer Stephen Chow wasn’t able to play Kato, but his replacement looks cool.
That still bums me out.
Me too. Seth Rogan? Please. They’ve totally made a joke out of the Green Hornet. This could’ve been a really cool movie. Instead, it’s another stupid cop comedy movie.
Me too, Stacie and Geordie! Stephen Chow is awesome!
Better than I expected but I’m still not buying Seth Rogen in the lead role.
I thought that it looks better than expected, but I was surprised that Seth actually looked decent from what was shown.
jay I‘ll always love you i’m looking forward to seeing your new movie!gogogo!
I like Jay chou very much ,His music are very good !
Looking forward to this movie
My thoughts exactly, dusen. Rogen just doesn’t cut it.
This movie looks like it’s goin 2 b good….i’ma go c it…in Imax 3D…it looks like a movie alot of people will love
January 2011? That’s a kiss of death right there. Somebody said it best above about the irrelevancy about both the characters and Rogen.
This movie will probably do Jonah Hex box office. Maybe then Hollwood will reconsider giving this d-bag anymore films to ruin. Rogen plays it best being a side character only. He should be banished to some bad sitcom on one of the lesser networks.
or you could not waste your time posting in a article about 2 things you deem irrelevant unless you time is worthless and you have nothing better to do!!!!
Yo mama so fat, her avatar’s got diabetes.
Looks good!
Agreed!!!
Seth Rogan is the bomb and he will kick it as the Hornet. Youngsters won’t care about the original, won’t remeber bruce lee as kato, but will see two funny characters from the latest comedic generation kickin ass with big guns. Plus Gondry directing it is going to take it off the regular comic hero path. Can’t wait!!
Re: ‘no touching’ dude humour – seriously! In an age when young men label themselves ‘mostly straight’ and actresses come out as ‘bi’ nearly every week, do we really need the homophobic joke? In the TRAILER no less? Weak.
In most asian cultures they don’t touch or shake hands it’s not a homophobic joke.
I took it more as “I don’t know where that hand has been” thing than a homophobe thing.
More like I’m not holding hands with you. Lost in translation.
That looks awful! I like Seth Rogen ok, but from that trailer his “Dude, I’m a superhero!” shtick will get old fast.
Looks Good to me I can’t wait.
I can wait. haha But it does look good.
When it was announced Rogen would star, I had a hard time picturing him as a superhero…and this trailer did little to dispel that notion.
As nodnard just mentioned…his “Dude, I’m a superhero” routine will likely wear out its welcome pretty quickly.
On the bright side, it seems like Chou (who looks like he’s going to steal this movie) will handle the vast majority of the action stuff. I just hope Rogen’s one-liners aren’t too painful. Also, there’s the excellent Waltz and a little Tom Wilkinson…which is better than no Tom Wilkinson.
The problem with Rogen is that he is good in small doses. He is one of those actors who don’t have the necessary star wattage or film presence to be leads. Not to mention that he seems to always play the same character. SOmething in his demeanor and his attitude makes me not believe him as anything but a lazy, cynical slacker doofus. Clearly, he doesn’t have the acting chops to do anything else.
Rogen was the lead in Knocked Up, Pineapple Express & Zack & Miri and they are all very good movies. With that said, he appears to be playing the same character from those movies in this movie but the character has lost weight and gotten some $$ & cool gadgets. I was hoping for a more serious turn by Rogen but judging from the trailer that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Lest we forget that Cameron Diaz was a 21-year old newbie once upon a time in The Mask and it launched her career. Why do the producers need to be praised for putting a 30-something actress in this movie vs. a 20-something actress, especially since the role is bound to be little more than a third act damsel in distress?
I still don’t like her.
Why is Cameron Diaz in this?
That looks like total generic crap.
It doesn’t look bad 2 me, but sort of generic. Like it follows the predictable formula you would expect from a buddy/cop story. And it doesn’t look or feel like the director’s usual style. Maybe that was intentional but I dunno. Regardless, I’m willing to give this a chance. I was expecting to see it on Kimmel last night but got the Kardashian sisters. (Ugh) This movie seems to be cursed in every way.
