'Black Panther' exclusive first look: Djimon Hounsou in Marvel's animated comic

Djimon-HonsouImage Credit: Dimitrios Kambouris/WireImage.comMarvel’s Black Panther widely credited as the first-ever mainstream black comic book superhero — may not yet have his own feature film adaptation, but he is finally getting his own animated series. Black Panther: Who is the Black Panther? will premiere June 23 as a 12-episode weekly “motion comic” series on iTunes, Xbox Live, Microsoft Zune, and the PlayStation Network. Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) voices the title hero, also called T’Challa, the warrior king of the fictional African country of Wakanda, a resource-rich nation threatened with invasion by a cabal led by the assassin known as Klaw. (Because, in comics, why use the letter “C” when “K” is clearly much sexier?) Kerry Washington (Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Alfre Woodard (Desperate Housewives), and Carl Lumbly (Alias) also lend their voices to the project, as well as Black Panther’s creator, the inimitable Stan Lee.

After the jump, check out an exclusive first look at the trailer for the series.

What do you make of the project, Popwatchers?

It’s pretty good. I have a feeling he may make a sneaky appearance in The Avengers. If not he’s a dead cerrt for Avengers II.

Oooooooh. Not a huge fan of this drawing style at the moment, but I can get used to it! And not to pile on too much too soon to this whole superhero movie explosion in recent years, but I’d like to see a Black Panther live action movie some day. (I’m starting to have an arguably lame fantasy of seeing the Old Spice guy star….mmmm eye candy- I mean, dramatic acting chops. I totally have my priorities straight.)

seeing that proves marvel has not given up trying to get the black panther into other media though would rather have had it shown on beta. as for the black panther movie. have heard the rights to the characters are lost in some legal red tape at one time for wesley snipes wanted the black panther but when told no took blade.

It was out for 2 weeks with 3 espisodes listed on iTunes. A few days ago they were pulled with no explanation.

I want all of the episodes but can’t locate them either. A few episodes were posted on YouTube for a while.
