I agree, yes to Duran Duran. But I might point out “(Reach Up for the)Sunrise” was not an ’80s hit. It came out in 2004 for goodness sake!
Love the idea of a pop medley through the years, Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones, Billy Idol, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, Take That, Oasis … really Britain is blessed in this regard … just too many great acts.
Ack, ignore my last comment. I misread that part of the article.
Anyway, I completely agree with Jenny.
The fantasy geek and the nerd in me would like to see some recognition of the great literature Britain has produced. LOTR, Narnia, Harry Potter – come on, it’s a global phenomenon! I don’t know how they’d be able to incorporate these, or how they’d clearly recognize less showy literature like Austen…but they’re Brits, they’re creative enough to figure it out and do it well!
That’s why they should do David Tennant…
I want to see Paul McCartney and Ringo! The Who, The Rolling Stones!
Yes, yes, yes to Duran Duran, great idea!
Oh, of course Duran Duran!!!! The 14 year old inside of me is shrieking like it’s 1984.
Duran Duran should be there yes & David Tennant should make an appearance as well, also what about the Kaiser Chiefs, they’re brilliant live.
He is the best and wealthyfriends.net
Duran Duran would be a great choice! They played @ the Olympics in Torino and they’ve played @ Live Aid, Live 8, Live Earth, the Diana tribute concert, a Superbowl Tailgate show and many large music festivals in every hemisphere in the world. They are always fantastic to watch and can really get a crowd going. And yes, seeing many thousands of people all dancing and raising their arms in the air to “reach up” is a lot of fun to watch and to take part in.
Duran Duran. Definitely.
Duran Duran are obviously the BEST choice!
Absolutely to Duran Duran – I think an artist to represent each decade since the last GB Olympics is a fantastic idea! Re-unite Cliff and the Shadows for the 50′s and if Duran Duran aren’t the 80′s then a momentus opportunity will be missed.
I totally agree: Duran Duran sounds lime the better choice to welcome the games! They’re so brit and they absolutely rock!!
A guitar battle between the graetest British guitarists such as Jimi Page, Tony Iommi and Angus Young(debatably Austrailian but still part of Britain)
