Will Arnett and Jason Bateman unveiled the first digital short from their production company DumbDumb and Ben Silverman’s Electus on Thursday, as part of Internet Week New York.
“The Prom Date,” starring Arnett, Bateman, Rachael Harris, and Aubrey Plaza, became available on YouTube earlier today and tells the story of two parents (Bateman and Harris) getting their daughter ready for her senior prom. Of course, she’s not going with just some boy, she’s going with Skip, her soulmate, a word that strikes fear in the hearts of many a parent. Bateman’s wary of Skip’s intentions, commenting on how boys these days “know how to act all polite, and before you know it they’ve got their Facebook all up in your Twitter.” Major laughs (and creepiness) ahead. (Watch the video after the jump).
Co-produced by Orbit gum and Energy BBDO, “The Prom Date” is part of an ongoing series called OrbitDirtyShorts, which will use calculated product placement of the gum to “clean up” various “dirty” situations.
Are you looking forward to more digital shorts from DumbDumb? Is there ever a situation where Will Arnett can’t make you laugh?

LOL!!! Soulmates!!!
That was amazing. I can’t wait for more.
LOVE IT! Of course!
God Will is so good at being skeevy!
Everything these two do should be together! Aubrey Plaza is a delight as well; Her comedic timing is great.
Thank God for the twist at the end, otherwise I’d have felt so yucky I’d need a whole pack of that dang gum. Hilarious. I’m so happy Jason Bateman and Will Arnett are still “the besties”.
AD movie NOW!!!!
Frankly, the fact that the whole thing was a glorified ad gave me a not very clean feeling. I love everyone involved in this, which is why it makes me sad to see them pimping gum.
I agree with you there. Yes, the whole thing was an ad, but the insertion of the product into the story was less than subtle. Also, was that gum spiked, b/c the fact that people’s attitudes changed when they started chewing made no sense. Of course, I just came back from watching THE A-TEAM. so who am I, really, to be pointing out the nonsensical?
The Orbit product placement reminded me of that AD episode where they all talk about how great Burger King is.
Hopefully, if there ever is an AD film, GOB would’ve dumped Egg/Her?/Plant, and maybe Aubrey Plaza could play another 3rd place pageant contestant. I’d rather Amy Poehler come back as Wife of GOB, but that’s as likely as an AD film actually being made.
At first, I thought Skip just failed year after year, a la STEVE HOLT!
“I’m gonna go get a new soda. Hey, you know that you can get a refill on any drink you want here, and it’s free? (Laughs.) ”
If it’s good enough for Carl Weathers, it’s good enough for me.
“Your husband is Carl Weathers?!”
hahaha this is terrific
Disturbing and hilarious. I liked how they worked the Orbit into it. And Jason Bateman looks cuter than ever in this.
That glasses are adorrrrable!!!
o_O
Sorry, not a fan. I didn’t like the over the top Orbit advertising. If I were the actors I’d be embarrassed I did this.
Wasn’t too enthused when the orbit gum pack appeared in the scene at the beginning but warmed up to it. Pretty good – looking forward to others.
Umm. I think most people here are missing the point. The product placement is SUPPOSED to be over-the-top and not subtle. This is the whole purpose behind these shorts. And if it means I get to see more Aubrey Plaza, then sign me up.
