Image Credit: Bruce Glikas/FilmMagic.comVery rarely am I this excited about a movie based only on the actors or actresses involved with the project. But with Variety reporting that Glee star Lea Michele has been cast to voice everyone’s favorite singing Kansan, Dorothy, in the 3-D animated musical feature Dorothy of Oz, I can’t help myself. At the risk of sounding overzealous, can I get a hells yea!?
Other actors contributing voices to the flick include Jim Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, and Kelsey Grammer (as Lion, Scarecrow, and Tin Man, respectively). Win times three. And here’s the big one: Guess who’s currently penning some songs for it? Bryan Adams! They might as well call this movie This Is For You, Sandra. If you can stop judging me for my love of Bryan Adams for a moment, tell me what you think of this news, PopWatchers. Potential to be the greatest animated musical ever? Will we be adding your name to the self-indulgent “This Is For You” version of this movie title I created?

In fact, let’s just give EVERY story about Glee (that’d be about 12 per day) a “best EVER” … until it’s time to do so for Twilight.
Jeez, this site is turning into Tiger Beat.
Yet you felt compelled to read the story AND take time to comment. By clicking on the story, you gave it an extra “hit,” therefore contributing to the “problem” you so detest. If you don’t care about the story, do the rest of us a favor and stay away.
Have you ever heard of freedom of speech? I love glee, but just because someone doesn’t care for something, that doesn’t mean they cannot voice there opinion. So Cris doesn’t like how EW does so many Glee and Twilight things…that’s ok! If you don’t like something and want it to stop, do you completely ignore it? Most of the time, probably not. If everyone were to adhere to your logic, there would be no political protests. It’s called voicing an opinion in hopes to stop something.
Which is a great idea, gleefan2, except this is an entertainment magazine. Their business is to sell entertainment news, whether its good entertainment or not. The number of people interested, whether positively or negatively, is obviously going to be directly correlated to the number of stories on that topic.
At least Glee is a pretty good show with a cast that can actually act.
Just started watching season 1 to see what the hype was – the storylines would be so much better without all the singing.
And is Rachel suppose to be the heroine of the show b/c she is annoying as hell – as bad as the cheerleader gf of Finn (who really cant sing)
Cris: Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is an entertainment website, correct? GLEE is one of the few bona fide television hits of the last year, and just wrapped its first season to the highest ratings for a season finale this spring. Lea Michele is one of its breakout stars, and it follows that EW would report on her career moves. It has nothing to do with the fact that the show has teen appeal. I guess you conveniently overlooked the fact that there’s an article on “Boardwalk Empire” with Steve Buscemi on the home page also. I don’t think you’d see Buscemi on the cover of Tiger Beat.
It is a story about Lea Michele not glee.
genius* my b people
To answer the question posed by the title…not even close. Not even the best voice casting for Dorothy ever.
You got me all excited about the cast for this movie in the first paragraph, and then I see Jim Belushi (needle scratching on record sound).
Also, Robin Williams as the Genie remains the best voice casting ever…true story.
Absolutely the best voice casting. Lea is the perfect choice, not only for that lovely voice but also for the caché that she brings with her being on a current, highly popular show. That alone will help the box office of this feature. Yes, a stroke of genius by those that did the casting.
Okay, so I’m not, like, peeing myself with joy or anything, but yeah. This is good news.
+1 Castiella
I’ll totally go see this! Hopefully they do it justice!
Why would they mess with TWoO? Can’t anyone come up with any new story ideas??
To be fair, it was a play long before it was a movie. Then there was The Wiz, and Return to Oz, and Tin Man. And given that Baum wrote 14 Oz books (and others wrote more), there’s lots of room in the Oz universe for sequels! But I agree, if they’re just doing a remake, that’s sad.
It isn’t a remake it is based on other books by Braum grandson.
Oh, Jim, that’s so cool! Now I’m really looking forward to it.
It’s an actual sequel, based on a best selling book (worldwide) of the same name (Dorothy of Oz) written by the great grandson of Baum, Roger S. Baum. Many new characters, too.
Sounded good until it got to the “Bryan Adams” part. Sorry, Sandra!
Whats wrong with Bryan Adams? The man has only co written some of the best rock songs ever. I agree with Sandra-yeah Bryan Adams!
tsk, where are NPH and Hugh Jackman? I’d take them over Ackroyd and Belushi any day! (Grammar is ok, but I’m unsure of his singing voice)
Grammar’s sung in quite a few things. These aren’t completely predictable choices, but I kinda like them.
I do agree with the commenter who said Robin Williams as the Genie was the best voice casting ever. WORD.
I want a juicy BJ from Lea.
What a true Glee fan you are! Most folks don’t know about her skill at making Blackberry Jam.
As the logical heir to Judy and Barbra, Lea is perfect! Bravo!!
Agreed!
We call her Fish Lips. She is so stuck on herself and annoying.
um…. she’s playing a part?
And you are so great you feel the need to go off on people on the internet. Yeah you’re special and totally annoying.
Good job with casting on that one.
Just like Robbie Benson was cast as the Beast in “Beauty and the Beast”. Love love love that movie!
if this was facebook, I would click like.
