Image Credit: Craig Blankenhorn I’ve written before on the subject of why Steve Buscemi deserves chunkier parts. And apparently the folks behind the forthcoming HBO show Boardwalk Empire — a brains trust that includes Martin Scorsese and Sopranos scribe Terence Winter — agree. Certainly Buscemi is front and center in the new trailer for the Prohibition-era gangster show in which he plays criminally-minded Atlantic City notable “Nucky” Johnson.
You can check out the clip after the break. I would also recommend that you check out Nelson Johnson’s excellent book Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City, which inspired the show and really is a humdinger of a read.

To me, Buscemi is a starter on the “Gary Oldman All-Stars” – actors who’ve shockingly, criminally have never been nominated for Oscars.
Although I love the incredible amount of character/supporting work he’s done over the past 20 years, I can’t wait to see the man take center stage on a big, ol’ HBO production.
Steve Buscemi AND Michael Shannon AND Martin Scorsese? Awesome.
And I believe I saw Omar from The Wire in there… IMDB confirms, Michael K. Williams is playing Chalky White. I can’t wait for this, looks amazing.
So, Buscemi, Shannon AND Williams, with Scorcese involved? Yes, please.
And Kelly Macdonald and Gretchen Mol and Dabney Coleman too.
looks awesome. I’m looking forward to it.
draw a mustache on that pic and you have your leading man for a John Waters biopic.
That would be the best thing ever!!!
With the exception of the music, it looks (and sounds) great. Use music of the era, not Hendrix…
Wow, this looks amazing. Can’t wait.
Does anybody the song used in the trailer?
Looks fun. Michael Shannon and Michael K. Williams deserve the best. But I’m not totally convinced Buscemi can pull off menacing…his acting just comes off as tough guy posturing in this trailer, but I’ll probably change my mind once I see an episode in full.
Have to admit, I’m a bit tired of gross men who use their money to have sex with beautiful women aspect of life.
I’ve been toying with the idea of getting the book. I think this just convinced be to do so.
The song is “The Dead Weather – 60 ft tall”. And yes, this series alone requires me to subscribe to HBO again. Can not wait.
