I am sorry but I love just Love Crystal! It is not her fault that Slezak loves her like he did Allison last year. He also favored Kris over Adam until he actually got to know Adam. I have to admit I was a huge Lee fan until I bought his two pre-idol CD’s. I wasted money. His two CD’s suck! I can’t wait till Crystal’s CD comes out. She is my favorite and Lee can go where terrible singers go………away!

Love Crystal’s interview! She’s so funny and articulate love the lovefest between her and Michael! She seems like a really awesome person I’d want to hang out with! No need to hate on Lee, I used to not like him as well but since Crystal seems pretty cool with being number 2 and since she loves and respects Lee I’ve started to warm up to him! They are all wonderful people it’s so nice to see their personalities shine through after the show! Idol just sucks the life out of them during the show! They are all very lovely people!

However, out of respect to Chrystal, she at least said she wanted to work with Lee DeWyze (as well as Adam Lambert) in the future, which was nice. Also, when Michael mentioned how the “girls” do not get enough credit for rearranging a song, Chrystal also stated that the guys did not get much credit for rearranging songs, either, which was a nice ” tip of the hat” to Lee. The bottom line is, Idol has not been about singing since Season 4, and Carrie Underwood. Even Chrystal said that it is not ALL about the singing, in the interview. Lee just played the game better-besides having a very nice voice in line with King of Leon and Nickelback, he also changed his appearance a bit, and acted the respectful, middle class shy guy, that is looking for a break very well. He did not talk back to the judges, and he just played the AMERICAN IDOL game better..and the demographic of 18-49 year old women ate it up. Also, it is interesting that the states of New York and California overwhelmingly voted for Lee, not Chrystal according to the Dialidol.com website (geopredictions page). It seems that most of the “naysayers” the Lee haters came from either coast, and yet Lee still got the vote from those states. In the end, Chrystal should have tried out for X FACTOR, she would have won hands down, without changing one hair on her head. I mean look at Susan Boyle!!

You are looking at Dialidol backwards. New York and California did vote for Crystal. The default setting on the geopredictions page shows the loser of each state. If the first thing you saw was his color on those states, that means he lost them.

@JJ. Thank you. Don’t get me wrong–I like Crystal too, but I felt Lee deserved to win because he played a better game than Crystal. He improved week-by-week, never talked back to the judges, and this is probably the most important reason: he picked more popular songs than Crystal. It seemed to me Crystal picked more obscure songs than Lee, such as Saved!, People Get Ready, Shania Twain week, Sinatra week, Come To My Window, and Up To The Mountain. She might have turned in stellar performances of those songs but if you’ve never heard them before and they’re old-fashioned–who’s going to vote for you? I think a lot more people preferred Lee’s songs, such as Hey Jude, A Little Less Conversation, The Boxer, You’re Still The One, That’s Life, Simple Man, Beautiful Day, etc. Lee played a better game.

I find it ridiculous that people are saying Lee played the better game. Isn’t the object of the “game” to pick songs that fit your voice and suit, play with the arrangement to change them up a bit and make them distinctly yours, and then most importantly, SING THEM WELL. On all three counts, Crystal dominated Lee all season. Playing the game does NOT mean catering to the naive little girl demo the most and playing up the nervous, shy guy, “need to believe in myself” role. Crystal’s body of work is infinitely superior to Lee’s. All you need to do is watch their Idolatry interviews and hear the clips sprinkled in. In understand you Lee fans want to fight back after the brutal beating your boy took on the message boards for his interview. However, your arguments defending him are simply weak, ranging from Crystal’s looks to Lee’s “current” song selections. Notice how there are rarely any put downs of Crystal’s performance ability. Idol was never “all about the singing”. That is why it is not called “America’s best undiscovered semi-pro singer”. And why contestants are not singing from anonymity in a closed booth to “vocal singing experts”.
Being a success is the music world is more than just singing ability. Just as being a TV or Hollywood star is more than “Just the acting, the acting nuances, dammit!!!”
Kelly Clarkson was an affirmation of that very successful concept. She was an Idol people liked. She was more than “just the singing!!!”. Same right up to this year – with Casey and Siobhan and Lee showing that they have real shots at the future because each has more attributes of success going for them than just “live vocals sung technically well” – though Siobhan is not too shabby in that area and will get much better now she is out of her teens.

I luvs me some Crystal. This long interview made me just like her more. She is funny, engaging, intelligent. Just luvs her.
I see it as too bad, and sometimes very disgusting, that so many “Americans” view everything in a binary: win/lose, black/white way. Crystal and Lee, as well as many of the other Idol contestants this year, are good singers and performers or they wouldn’t have been on the show. Many if not most will have good, if not great, careers post-Idol. Why not celebrate that. I sure do. I’m just glad that Idol exists and has brought us so many new talents that we might never have seen otherwise. I preferred Crystal over Lee for personal, subjective reasons, and I hope her career outshines his, but I don’t wish him anything but as much success as he can earn for himself. And, by the way, why waste time responding to the haters. They never change!

I’ll never understand why people dislike something or someone so much, and then proceed to watch (in part or in whole) an entire piece (or 8) on said subject. Then they spend a great deal of time trashing the subject and attacking the fans. At what point did they get it into their heads that this was a good idea? Geez. People have different taste in music. The difference between Susan Boyle and Crystal is that Boyle looked the way she was because she had some mental issues, had given up trying to be attractive and trying to date – to focus on being a caregiver for parents where her only respite was singing in church. Voters quickly got that, and cut her great slack in the appearance because the biography and circumstances were such powerful waivers to how she presented.
Whereas Crystal decided that just singing in subways wasn’t enough, she had to do the affectation of looking like she lived down there for years to build her “authenticity”.
IMO, it didn’t work…My Mom was a fan of Joplin’s when Joplin was alive. She should be a Crystal fan by inclination but was off-put by Crystal’s appearance. “She looks like one of the bums you pass by that reeks of stale urine.” Nor was Mom impressed with her refusal to let Idol fix her teeth or put her in better clothing, initially. More affectation. “Janis was a pigpen with low self-esteem, addicted to heroin, drinking two 5ths of Southern Comfort a day and smoking 3 packs of Malboros and several joints…what’s Crystal’s excuse??? Don’t give me “diabetes” – I know bad diabetics than look like movie stars..”

Why are some of the people here so evil and satanic. Do you laugh at poor, homeless people when they ask you for chance. First off, Crystal will achieve success because she plays good music and is truly gifted. Notice how when people criticize Lee, they generally are tearing apart his singing and performance ability, NOT his personal stuff. Crystal, you know I love your swag and all, but please don’t team up with Adam Lambert. Contrary to poppular belief, he doesn’t have a great voice. A man screaming with a piercing voice doesn’t add up to a great singer. And his approach to singing is fake and superficial. This is the exact opposite of what you do. You FEEL the music, he performs it like some Vegas show. Oil and water just don’t mix.
I agree. What’s the point in pairing up with someone who really isn’t relevant. Adam is becoming known more for the enormous hype behind him than he is for his music. Crystal would not benefit from teaming up with him. His persona is too fake. It might rub off on her and then nobody would take her seriously.

Adam is excellent with ballads and slower tempo songs. Crystal and Adam BOTH have incredible voices. You people obviously have not listened to Adam’s less OTT performances. Watch ‘Broken Open’,'Aftermath’ ‘Soaked’,acoustic’WWFM’, etc…..I dare you (available on Youtube)!

It’s really all about persona, not how great you think they can sing. Crystal has a subdued persona and she is very souful with her music. Adam, on the other hand is more intrested in being flashy and putting on an eye-catching stage show. Their stles just don’t mix, and Adam’s showy style won’t benefit what Crystal is all about.

But…Lambert is no superficial fake. He is a showman and an artist, and someone that crafts style and excitement into their performances is what we call charismatic….not any less a talent than a sensitive songwriter who stays in one spot and hunches hiding behind their guitar.
The main reason she shouldn’t team up is doing so would be a big conflict with her and Lamberts style and music. Maybe a duet would work…but Adam is a showman and better fitted to do a performance with a female who can also move with grace and confidence around the stage.

You’re missing the point. All those “extreme opposite” duets were between 2 established recording stars/media celebrities. Chrytal is not an established recording star. She would be making a big mistake dueting with Adam because he has established himself as a splashy, superficial entertainer who focuses on the performance, not the feeling of the song like Crystal does. She doesn’t need him for the TYPE of music that she sings, and more improtantly, her approach to singing. It would be a bad move for what she wants. There’s nothing wrong with what Adam does, it’s just not right for Crystal because she’s just starting her career. Believe it or not, most record buyers don’t watch AI, and they don’t need to be getting mixed signals as to what type of artist she is.

WOW-this forum has become very ugly. Dude, sorry I spelled Crystal’s name wrong…and I accidently posted twice below. Of course Slezak likes Crystal for her songs. Who gives a rats ass about Slezak’s sexual preferences, I only care that Lee did not get as many segments as Crystal, but I kind of get the feeling that Lee was not going to be baited by Slezak during his interview, and that he was prepped by his “handlers.” It is not like Slezak had good things to say about Lee all season long.
I still stand by what I originally said below. Lee said the same thing in allot of the interviews he has done and Crystal alluded to it in all of her interviews– Idol is a GAME SHOW, and you have to play the game by the rules. PERIOD. It is not a singing contest anymore. To compete on Idol and win, it is way way more important to have a good image all around ie: public perception of respect for the judges, how you dress, how you carry yourself, becoming friends with all the Idols, kissing ass, etc.-then it is to be the very best singer. I like Lee’s voice, and I am personally a fan, but I realize that Crystal has some amazing vocal chops on her. It was just the WRONG CONTEST for her to enter, if she was not going to PLAY the game. Still think she would have won X FACTOR hands down. By the way, she still has a recording contract with a major label, so people chill out…she will be OK..
out of all the girls, she was the most talented….and the most talented out of all of them, that she didn’t win is because she didn’t sell more downloads. LOL @ the last Clapbot post. To the actual Clapbot – ease up, man, Jason Averett pushing his favorites is kind of hilarious to me. Especially because they’re always deserving candidates and often (with the exception of this year) they’re way too underrated by the judges. Even if you disagree, it’s just a semi-joke, and Idolatry is a video opinion piece, so why shouldn’t everyone involved express their opinions about who’s best? We have the comment section so we can disagree with their opinions, but I think it’s kind of weird when people criticize not the opinions themselves, but the fact that EW employees get to express their opinions. It’s not their job to give equal props and support to every contestant.

I love, love Idolatry but the bias is getting really obnoxious. I understand Slezak and the editors have the right to like anyone they want. But these 8 part Idolatry episodes for Crystal and Siobhan covering way more than was asked of other people including the winner really shows of the favoritism. I appreciate the expanded coverage in subjects but why not extend that to fans of Lee at least? Or if not then dial back on the favoritism. The Bow-er-sox chant probably somewhat lead to Crystal’s demise as well, just a thought.

You know, it’s just possible Siobhan had an eight part interview because she was funny (hyterically so) and could carry an interview that long. Crystal’s interview was a lot of music, which I loved. I don’t think many off Idol have eight parts of something to say or the desire to say it. Slezak earned this interview and it would have been un-gracious for Crystal to have given less.
I agree with Yo’, it has to do with favorites but also, how interesting the interview is. As nice as Lee seems to be, his interview wasn’t interesting enough for 8 parts. I was waiting for Crystals though, and Mike asked all the ?s I wanted to know about, i.e. Group number. But now because of Idolatry,I have to see the Big Lebowski, the clips look really funny. Once doesn’t look like my cup of tea, though.

And did you notice that they really emphasized all of Crystal’s brilliant performances and quickly glanced over her not-so-good performances like Sinatra Week, Come To My Window–I don’t even think they showed her really bad ones like Maybe I’m Amazed (too shrieky) and Black Velvet (off key). It’s no wonder Lee was so defensive during his interview. Posters lost respect of Lee when he defended his perfomrance of Kiss From A Rose. Well, I can see why now.

I don’t think EW is the place for ‘balanced and fair’ journalism. It’s is an entertianment magazine.
And, I liked Lee, a lot. Going into the finale I didn’t care which person won because I was so ‘torn’. But Lee’s interview I found boring. Crystal’s interview I found myself laughing out loud.
So my guess is that for whatever reason, Crystal (and Siobahn sp?) gave more in their interviews. No value judgments here, there could be plenty of reasons why/why not.
You don’t have to attack someone else to make your favorite look better.
I don’t disagree with their right to have favorites but Lee wasn’t even asked typical questions that Slezak asked EVERY contestant. Such as about “contestant co-write week” or “what theme would you have chosen” or why not ask Lee about the fashion that Slezak had to gripe about all the time, Big Mike even got that question. So I don’t think it is stepping too far out of line to express some disappointment in the lack of effort in showcasing a borader selection of material from Lee’s Idolatry. There should not be such a discrepancy in coverage between the contestants, especially the final 2!
AK – it is not something you can do where you say based on finishing spot “Didi deserved only 1 part, while Lee deserves 10 parts”. It is who Slezak thinks he clicks with and who he thinks EW readers and industry pros that track his interviews are interested in learning more about. Crystal was his fave all season. She gave some good stuff on craft, her limits, was a little more open than Lee’s no doubt Idol people in suits coached reticence.
AS for Siobhan..you just have to add to her many talents an ability to give highly entertaining, brilliant interviews. A natural storyteller, with a gift of timing and being able to listen well. It wasn’t just Slezak. She was doing the same sort of captivating, funny, intelligent and slightly whacked interviews in New York and going over so well Idol had to extend her stay two days just to humor a few of their favorite bookers who were begging for some extra Magnus time. (Besides the other stuff, the fact that she is “smoking hot” to younger males might have influenced the show’s demand for her.)

This was a Crystal interview. Lee won the compitition. He doesn’t get equal time. He got pimped big time during the competition. Everyone who interviews Crystal isn’t obliged to offer contrast between them. Get over it. Crystal will sell more CD’s, and remain popular longer.

Best song and performance of the season may also be Siobhans “PIB”.
Though I won’t argue with people that say Lee’s “The Boxer”, Casey’s “Jealous Guy” and two of Crystals were as good or better. But then I’d have to mention Siobhan’s “Wicked Games”, “House” and her two best studio tracks “Across the Universe” and “When You Believe” which had the most amazing vocals of S9.

This contrasts to the best Idolatry this season, maybe best one done – the Siobhan Magnus 8-parter.
The more Mike and Siobhan went on, the more I liked both, the more captivating Siobhan became. What a whacked and wonderful creature she is, and far funnier and intelligent than the Idol editing showed.
Siobhan-Slezak left me wanting More! Crystal-Slezak left me thinking..well, I like her, but the best I can say is Crystal is more likeable than Big Mike and not AS irritating. And 20 minutes of Crystal was enough..
We get the picture, you’re a Siobhan girl. Not everybody likes everyone. Siobhan is a free-spirited, whacky, and spontaneous. Crytal is just more serious and deeply in touch with the music she sings. It’s pretty much a matter of what type of person you like. But just keep in mind Jen, these are YOUR feelings for these individuals. It doesn’t mean that one is better than the other. But for some reason, your making it sound that way.
This is the first time I’ve noticed how attractive Siobhan is to girls? Geez, ladies, can you control your fantasy life here?

Liza, u mistake arrogance for confidence. Crystal’s voice is amazing, she blew me away when her and Alaniss morisette sung together. I think she did better then the orginal artist on alot of songs. That’s just one time, of many times she blew me away. Question for all of the ones who r talkin so disrespectful about Crystl, were do u think and how do u think alot of artist came from? Do u think they were already wealthy and went into that business? Alot of artist were poor hardworkin people before they got there break. She is not ugly, she has her own style, as do many artist, just cause u don’t like someone’s style doesn’t give u the right to call them trailer trash, a whore, or any such name.

If you read comments from people that REALLY KNOW HER you might realize that to JUDGE her on the small bit you’ve seen is greatly unkind and unfair. I’ve heard she’s a super nice lady. Yeah got an ugly vibe from her. for me i felt that she seems to feel like she’s V.I.P.. That the idolatry is like feeding Slezak fanaticism. She seems to feel so self-important now that the interview is for her fans pleasure and slezak’s and not for her. Like she has better stuff to do but okay she’ll play along coz she’s in demand sort of thing. It’s like she’s expecting for Slezak to kneel and bow to her feet.

Lee won coz he got more votes than crystal. Not necessarily coz he has the best voice on the show. Lee fans were so desperate after the final performance because he sucked so bad even the judges gave him the “thanks for coming” comments. Desperation leads to better voting performance. Plus i guess the saliva during his The Boxer performance turned on his fans more that they went crazy voting! eww~
you noiticed the saliva too huh FYI LOL..that certainly didn’t convey star qyality..being so nervous you’re actually drooling on yourself..not that it matters at all to her career whether she won or lost because I truly don’t think it does,but it’s a shame that america couldn’t get it right on this one.Even disregarding the fact that she outsang Lee by miles all season long,and then just as a reminder to the people that may have blocked that fact from their memory(I’m talking to you Lee fans) she absolutely put him to shame on the final tueday night.In fact so much so that the judges handed Lee the”thanks for playing our competition,we have some nice consolation prizes for you” speech.
But I’m even willing to disregard all that because I think no matter what happened at that point,Lee was going to win,even if he puked on himself tuesday night.The shame lies in not giving the title to the person who was so obviously in her element,on a big stage,with a big crowd,and big stars all around her.Not intimidated at all in fact stoked for the chance to be there,and shining like a bright star when singing with two of her heroes,while Lee shriveled up like a bug under a magnifying glass under the bright lights.And anyone who watched the final two shows and couldn’t see that,quite frankly isn’t even worth arguing with,because they obviously don’t get it.

They did pick the right contestant to win this year, it’s just that the majority of the voters chose that guy.

And frankly, in the beginning people thought there would be a Crystal Siohban final. Crystal was always the front runner, but Lee improved each season. I did not even think Lee had a chance at winning until maybe top 7 or 8…

Umm, I think your wrong about that. Lets see what happens. Lee seems to be outselling Chrystal right now. I know it is just Idol Crap that is out, but you cannot tell what the public will like, until both of their CD’s are released. Also, the music business is fickle. Who knows if by October or November, if they will like either Chrystal or Lee, it is a LONG time to wait to release a CD-dude, people forget performances. Also, allot has to do with Clear Channel and what they are willing to play based on the demographic. They are trying to sell products–it is all about the advertising. Unless you listen to Sirius Radio, then that is a different story (less people listen to Sirius then regular Radio). Also, allot of people just download the songs they like from Itunes, and don’t even buy the entire CD of songs by one artist, so we will see.
May the best man win! Lee is the best man and he won, whereas crystal is tjust the man runner up! HA!Choke on it people cause you will choke on it a long time!

Crystal is my all time favorite! I just love her originals Finally Got it Right, Sunflower Sunshine, Holy Toledo and Saved By Grace. Really hope that what she releases post Idol stays true to the spirit of those songs.

I think Casey still has his Idolatry, and I am hoping he will shine like Tim Urban and Siobhan did. Crystal wasn’t bad, but the Tim one was a revelation on what a truly fine young man he is..and Siobhan-Slezak was brilliant stuff.
Casey is last, and will hardly be least. He is a great guy, and like Siobhan was hardly pimped and also suffered from dysfunctional judging.
Casey is a straight shooter. And my hope is he has his Texas six-shooter loaded and will take some shots at what was wrong with Idol this season.
