'My Idiot Brother': Presenting Paul Rudd's sisters...

Ortega/PR Photos; Donna Ward/PR PhotosElizabeth Banks (the aspiring journalist), Emily Mortimer (the perfect mom), and Zooey Deschanel (the lesbian!) will play the sisters of Paul Rudd in Jesse Peretz’ upcoming comedy My Idiot Brother. Rashida Jones is Zooey’s girlfriend, in a fun twist on the Rudd-Jones romance from 2009’s I Love You, Man. All five of them can sit around having staring contests while trying to determine who has the most unique and exquisite eye color. Still no word on who plays their “overbearing mother.” [THR]

Last week, Mandi asked who could and should play Rudd’s siblings, so well done, PopWatch readers Chaz (who suggested Banks), Emily and Erin (who suggested Zooey)! Do the rest of you approve of this sibling set?

For some reason I thought Emily Mortimer kind of looked like Lyndsey Marshal (who played Cleopatra on Rome) when I first saw this picture.
Speaking of Lyndsey Marshal, what’s she been up to these days? She was fantastic on Rome but I don’t think I’ve seen her in anything else.

A little over a year ago she did a play in London with James McAvoy called Three Days of Rain. Don’t know what she has done more recently.

i want to have sexual relations with all of rudd’s “sisters.

So you want to be the rudder in the Rudd’s Huh?

Elizabeth Banks was his love interest in Role Models. Creepy.
Sounds like a good cast – Emily Mortimer was great on 30 Rock.

    • John

Agreed! Her 30 Rock cameo was priceless. And Elizabeth Banks is great on the show too. This looks like a perfect cast so far.

  • KEVIN

I don’t know what this is about, but this casting already has it on my must list!

Okay, I love Banks, Rudd and Jones, but I am afraid if they star in too many movies together I’m going to start mixing them all up. Banks and Rudd were also in 40 year-old Virgin together. Oy vey.

I know she’s too young, but I can see Frances McDormand playing the overbearing mother of these kids. You can see traces of her in all four of these actors, Deschanel the most. For a more age-appropriate star, maybe Diane Keaton?

    • Madd

McDormand already played Deschanel’s mother in Almost Famous. I also think Diane Keaton is a great choice.

  • seamus

    Catherine O’hara for the mom?

    • Casey

      That’s a good pick Seamus.

  • ELCCT

Diane Keaton has done the overbearing mother – how about Blythe Danner?

    • John

Yeah, Blythe Danner would be convincing for Deschanel and Banks. Rudd and Mortimer would look more like their dad’s side of the family, I guess.

      • Grace

        I LOVE Blythe! perfect choice

  • Sam

Paul Rudd is so friggin funny

  • Mandy

I love all of these actors. I can’t wait to see this movie. It will be so funny.

  • Rachel

Zooey, Elizabeth, & Rashida have all played Paul’s love interests throughout the years :)
I’m very excited for this movie!

  • Singer

Would like to see Kathleen Turner or Sigourney Weaver (too tall?) to be the mother.
