Fox announced today that pop princess-turned-pin-up model-turned-”California Gurl” Katy Perry will host this year’s Teen Choice Awards Aug. 9. Apart from the fact that the gig is probably motivated at least in part (if not mostly) by her album release a few weeks later, I’m actually pretty excited for the prospect of the bubbly Perry to take on the job. Last year, the mild-mannered Jonas Brothers graced the stage as MCs — and the year before that, the most obvious choice of all, Miley Cyrus — but I think Perry’s resume better fits the bill. With one of the hottest songs of the summer and a commitment to, um, out-there fashion, Perry is guaranteed to bring the colorful, bubblegum brand of entertainment that’s so characteristic of the Teen Choice Awards.

Beautiful? yes – no doubt….can she sing? no – she can’t. I mean yes, she can physically sing. She can move her voice up and down and change the speed and tone..but not very well. She’s a singer the way Brit Spears is a singer.

She was a horrible host of the MTV Europe Music Awards. Every single one of her jokes and outfits fell flat. But maybe she has improved.

Katy Perry’s style is style in a bag at best. Gaga might look strange but her lyrics are profound – she doesnt just stand on stage with her tits out, mediocre voice and simulate felatio every time she uses the word “popsicle” KP is a snoozefest.
I’m real tired of her record label shoving her down our throats. First being named Maxim’s Sexiest Woman (??), then all of these websites (including EW) having blogs about how her song is the “song of the summer” when summer hasn’t even started. Her fiance’s movie just came and now this gig. Can her album just drop already so she can go away?
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I have no clue how she can keep Russell Brand interested intellectually or comedically. She just kind of latches onto whatever she’s told is hot. Maxim was TOTALLY bought and paid for.

I find Perry’s behavior to be distasteful, as much as she is obnoxious, particularly with her upbringing. I would have thought she might have a bit more class and respect for herself. Considering her audience is that of a younger crowd mostly girls, her language is repulsive as some of her explicit dance moves and song content. I am ashamed for her and her parents, notably after Sunday nights performance. I hope when she finally grows up she has no regrets as to her appalling behavior.
What makes matters worse is that she thinks those things make her look sassy with a good deal of humor. I saw the blow job gestures she was making – that was just stupid. Wow Katy, you’re so shocking!
