After simulating a kiss with a female backup dancer June 3 on Britain’s Got Talent, the 17-year-old was photographed June 5 in another (faux?) liplock while performing at the club G-A-Y, “London’s largest gay and Lesbian party,” which has hosted Madonna, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Björk, Lady Gaga, and the Spice Girls. On June 6, she got up close and personal at the Rock in Rio festival (pictured). In between, on June 4, Cyrus took to her official blog to defend her BGT performance. Let’s pretend for a moment that Miley couldn’t possibly have forseen that a 17-year-old Disney star simulating a same-sex kiss on television would steal the attention from the contestants– “there were some amazinnnggg acts (but of course no one could focus on that),” she writes — and go right to her defense, which is that she didn’t even kiss the girl.
“I promise you I did not kiss her and it is ridiculous that two entertainers cant even rock out with each other without the media making it some type of story. I really hope my fans are not disappointed in me because the truth is I did nothing wrong. I got up there and did my job which is to perform to the best of my ability. I just want to put an end to this right now and just say one thing to everyone out there making this performance such a big deal. GET OVER IT! NOTHING HAPPENED. THERE ARE WAYYYYYYY MORE IMPORTANT THINGS IN THE WORLD. Lets start focusing a little less on making up ignorant rumors and focus a little more on world peace!”
Anyone else wish Miley would have written, “I really hope my fans are not disappointed in me because the truth is, even if I had kissed her, I did nothing wrong.” At least then, her wild streak — she can’t be tamed! or be bothered to use apostrophes! — would have a purpose (other than attempting to prove that 17 isn’t too young to dress like Beyoncé). If Miley doesn’t feel that a same-sex kiss isn’t shameful, she shouldn’t be simulating one. Then it’s just for shock value. If she does believe it, she should have taken this opportunity to say it.

I agree, Gary. Miley may not turn into Lindsay Lohan or Britany Spears, but she will at minimum go the way of Hilary Duff, Raven Simone, and the Cheetah Girls. Duff had a sleezy video for a song, and it was her last. Raven refused to go the sleeze route (good for her!), and she has her priorities on straight. Still, she hasn’t had much work. The Cheetah girls–disappeared. Miley will disappear, too.

yeah.. i think it would’ve been smarter for her to take a short break from the biz after hannah ended. maybe do the real world thing for a couple of years and then either go to college or relaunch her career. i’m sure all her industry people tell her to strike while the iron’s hot, but they are not looking out for your long term best interest, just trying to milk you for as long as they can. if miley were a true artist, she wouldn’t feel the need to apologize for all the choices she makes. if she were a true artist, she wouldn’t always uncomfortable- like she’s trying too hard to be something she isn’t quite yet. don’t blame her for trying, but i’d have had a lot more respect for her if she’d even just taken one year out of the limelight and grown up a bit. bc, no, tight and barely there clothes and fake lesbian kisses do not a mature individual, much less performer, make.
Now there is a nice idea, take some time out from the limelight and use the chance to figure out who she is inside. All the chaos around her would be enough to make most people loose their focus and do things that are not really them. So, maybe this really is a mistake but sadly she just hasn’t truly realised it yet. Anyway, clearly the girl already has a lot of money, so why not take some time out to evaluate herself and her career. Maybe then she could come up with a better relaunch plan then ‘kissing’ a girl to get attention.

I like what she stands for, in some cases, what she used to stand for. I believe the door swings both ways, if someone does something bad they can always do something good. Bad comparison. Jodie Foster was a gifted child actress/prodigy. She didn’t exploit her talent in order to run away from a child star image. She never really came across as a “child” star. As for Brooke Sheilds, she also came across as adult and she had a savvy stage mom who controled every aspect of her career. Miley is just pathetically exploiting her child celebrity status to keep herself in the limelight. It’s tacky and shameless.
Britney Spears was doing exactly this at 17. It took a while for Britney to end up where she did, and it will take Miley a while. Don’t worry, she’ll get there.
