Sandra Bullock returns at the MTV Movie Awards: 'Can we please go back to normal?'

sandra-bullock-mtvImage Credit: Christopher Polk/Getty ImagesSandra Bullock accepted her MTV Generation Award at the MTV Movie Awards, making her the first woman to receive the career-recognizing honor. Tonight marked a milestone of another sort, as well: This was Bullock’s first TV appearance since tabloid scandals engulfed her personal life this March. (Earlier in the weekend, Bullock surfaced at Spike TV’s Guys Choice Awards; that appearance will be televised June 20.)

Bullock pulled it off with class and a sense of humor (and looked stunning in sparkling black minidress). After sweetly funny speeches from Betty White and Bradley Cooper (Cooper: “Your films are the only thing that kept the U.S. economy afloat last year”) and a brief highlight reel of her work, she took the stage. First she declared that her career is still very much ongoing: “I love what I do, and I’m not going anywhere.” I’m not sure anyone thought otherwise, but I’m sure her fans appreciated the reassurance. “Speaking of what you might have read or heard lately,” Bullock went on. Cue collective intake of breath. She punctured the tension with a few more public declarations of a jokier nature: “I’m not dead.” “Everybody has cellulite, not just me.” And, most importantly, “Can we please go back to normal? Therapy is really expensive. Go back to making fun of me. I don’t care. It’s time to go back to normal.” Somewhere in there, she also exchanged a brief staged kiss with Scarlett Johansson to much laughter. In a final gracious touch, she asked everyone watching to think of Gulf Coast residents affected by the disastrous oil spill.

      • Amanda

I agree with Dedee. I’m glad Sandra is finally getting the attention she deserves (for her work, not her personal life). And her son is adorable!!!

I saw a video of her accteptance speech of Spike Award the article was mentioning that apparently was voted on by the troops, and in typical classy SB fashion, she accepted with grace, humility and with acknowlegement to the efforts/sacrifices the troops make. A true example of how to conduct one’s self and how to pick yourself up off the canvas after getting floored by a sucker punch..

        wankstain

    • GG

Yes it was really classy of her to kiss another ho at the awards. Bleh!

      • Whats Up???

Just wondering? Is this the same GG that I have talked to as Mulan???

      • GGlzr

Me thinks GG is jealous!!!! Or at the very least does’t get the idea of humor…. probably not..

    • Darckash

This wasn’t even her first time to kiss a woman in public. She laid one on Meryl Streep how many times–two, three? Somebody needs to learn how to take a joke. Plus, it was kind of hot.

  • aleksa

She’s awesome. What else is there really to say?

    • LOL

      Sandra FTW!

      • graeme

Her class, charm, intelligence, and grace were so out of place at the craptastic MTV Movie Awards. Well done, Sandra.

    • avenger

I sooo love her, she is a great actress, down to earth, and has a great fun personality as an added bonus.

  • kevin

    sandra you are awsome!!!!!!:)

  • stacie

    Classy

  • Steven C.

Sandy Bullock is a movie star, great actress, humble person, Oscar winner, Americas sweetheart, and now a class act. Oh wait she was also always a class act.

Good to see Sandy smiling again.

    • Lois

      Agreed.

    • Renee

      Well said.

  • rentagoodbook

    Class act.

  • Ana

Pure and simple class. She is beyond awesome.

  • Victor Eloy

I just love Sandra’s Bullock actitude, she is just terrific!
no more to say about her….
Jennifer Aniston should take note of this.

    • nancy

(Jennifer) don’t you mean Angela Jolene?

      • jessie

Ya, he definetly meant Angelina Jolie!

      • Anna

No, he meant the constantly whining, pity ho Jennifer Aniston.

    • Shurly

No I’m pretty sure he meant Jennifer Aniston. She’s the one who liked to play the victim. Sandra is the best !!

      • Lois

I’m sure Victor meant Jennifer “boo hoo, why does every man dump me?” Aniston.

      • Kat

I’m pretty sure Jennifer Aniston has said repeatedly that she’s fine and that it’s tabloid people who blow up the stories of her relationships into all that “Poor Jen” bullsh*t. I do feel bad for her, though, but just because she ends up spending half her time defending herself against accusations of “heartache” and all that crap. Give the woman some credit and spit your venom at someone who objectively and factually has problems and needs lessons in class from people like Sandra…like Lindsay Lohan or something.

      • Anna

jen reminds me of the scene in America’s Sweethearts where Catherine Zets Jones tries to save face by telling the audience to “don’t worry about me, I’ll be all right”

      • jimmyjo

Sandra had MUCH MORE reason to play victim then Jennifer Aniston. Yet she picked herself up, dusted herself off and acknowleges the white elephant in the room, so others can move on. Wherea Jennifer A., who had no kids/family with Brad and her split was not as mean and “dirty” as Sandra’s still plays the poor-me-Brad-left-me card when she wants attention. Jennifer uses her split for publicity, but not Sandra.

      • Tango

Jennifer Aniston doesn’t whine about being dumped. You just want to think that, so you say she did. There is no fact; just your perception.

  • Celia

Sandra was amazing! Betty White was amazing, but the HIGHLIGHT of my night was that EPIC Deathly Hallows trailer!!!! WOW!

  • Mari

Sandra is the sh*t, period. I’d endure Snooki 1000 times over to get to watch her be her awesome self. And with Betty White? Bonus!

  • DC

Classy Classy Classy. If anyone ever had a doubt about her real personality, could she really be that nice, that kind, that compassionate?….she answered them tonight with a definitive answer…YES she can!

    • Gabby

awww totally agree!! I think she’s a terrific role model for all women – regardless of your situation, or how many people may be judging you, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and show the world how amazing you are. I love Sandy Bullock!!! <33

  • DC

Classy, classy, classy! If anyone ever had questions like, Can she really be that nice, that kind, that compassionate, Sandra certainly answered those questions tonight. What a beautiful woman, inside and out.

  • Kathy

She is the epitome of grace and class. I applaud her for being an amazing actress and an even more wonderful human being. Way to go Sandy!

    • Muffy

Wow, the way some people talk about Sandra, you would think she cured cancer or something. People really believe Celebrities are better than them.

  • jonahwhale

awesome! And another baby on the way?

  • Ellen

Sandra is 100% Class and she is my Jackie Kennedy Onasis & Princess Diane all put together in one person. Please Don’t ever change Sandra Bullock!

    • JF

That’s a really cool thing to say! I think you are totally on the mark!
