Reminder: Scripps National Spelling Bee is tonight

You know what’s hotter than the disgusting air outside? Watching the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee indoors. Live coverage of the final championship rounds begins at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Dancing With the Stars finalist Erin Andrews and esteemed EW.com blogger Chris Harrison are hosting. I don’t usually like anything to interrupt the steady stream of terrified-kid-face closeups, but I personally wouldn’t mind if those two busted out an impromptu cha cha cha to ease the tension or, more likely, freak everyone out even further.

If you tune in, discuss the Bee in the comments below! And if you miss it, just go rent Spellbound on DVD. My money’s on Striped Shirt up above. He looks dazed and confused, but I bet it’s just a decoy and that he’ll snap out of it and B-E-E A-G-G-R-E-S-S-I-V-E.

Love the Bee, but I’ll tune in at 9… after watching Friday Night Lights.

Dang…wish the announcers would stop talking over the judges and contestants. Next year go back to the way it used to be!

Hidden Gem for you, Annie – while Erin is asking Anamika what the pressure was like with two words left, Laura is in the background picking at her cuticles and putting her picking hand to her mouth, before a parent’s hand stops her. Pretty funny, although I don’t know how much we’re allowed to make fun of 11-year-olds.

I saw that!!! It totally makes my day that you recognized it as a Gem.

The winning word is “stromuhr”. Yay! We get a word that is not originated from Latin nor Greek. (Last 3 years we get Latin/Greek winning words: serrefine, guerdon, Laodicean)

How hilarious was it that one girl got up there and her word was “gnocchi” and then the next boy gets up and his is “infundibuliform”!!!!! You just know he was muttering to himself when he went back to his seat.

I’m disappointed that there are only 9 rounds this year. Last year was better.

Just shut up!! Harrison and crew were unbelievably rude-talking over the judges and the kids. Unwatchable!
