Epic 'Eclipse' spot: The music might be a little much

eclipse-wolfWatching Summit market The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is a new form of entertainment. If memory serves me right, I caught an all-romance TV spot during The Bachelorette premiere. Now, we have the “epic” battle TV spot below. I can’t wait to see how the vampire army/werewolf fight actually comes off on screen. You want to feel like you’re caught in a frenzy of creatures that can rip you apart. But when I watched that airborne vamp and the pouncing wolf this time, I almost giggled. I think it’s because of the music. It’s so dramatic. Like something you’d expect to hear in a trailer for a period Russell Crowe action film. The previous Twilight movies have not earned that right. Do you think the Eclipse action can live up to this music? READ FULL STORY »

  • Jason Sudeikis is the latest to sign on to star in Horrible Bosses, which already co-stars Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Charlie Day, and Jason Bateman. Sudeikis will play a man who wants to see his boss dead, because he just won’t stop singing “What’s Up With That?” whenever he walks into a room. [THR]
  • Carl Erik Rinsch will direct the remake of the 1976 sci-fi flick Logan’s Run, which follows a man in a futuristic society that attempts to ban from existence anyone over 30. Also known as Hollywood. [Deadline]
  • Burr Steers has been tapped to direct Emperor: Young Caesar, an adaptation of Conn Iggulden’s Emperor novels. My guess is we’ll watch how Little Caesar makes a pizza. [Variety]

Let Santino Rice and Austin Scarlett turn you into an old society lady who wears edgy hats

Santino-Rice-Austin-ScarlettImage Credit: Albert L. Ortega/PR Photos; Anthony G. Moore/PR PhotosLifetime is developing two unscripted Project Runway-inspired projects. In one, Heidi Klum and Seal will counsel other couples on how to be as perfect as they are. That should be amazing. In the other, Runway season 2 runner-up Santino Rice and season 1 fourth-place finisher Austin Scarlett will roam around the country looking for women in need of a fashion makeover. So if you’re strutting down the street and see an odd couple tooling around in a bejeweled van with a portable Bluefly.com Accessories Wall in the cabin, look alive! Drape yourself in something frumpy and call out to no one in particular “What happened to Andrae?” It could be “the chance [unnecessarily long pause]…of a lifetime.” [Variety]

'Spider-Man' reboot: The search for America's Next Top Superhero

Filed under: Movies and tagged: , , ,

Ortega/PR PhotosWe already know there’s a new Spider-Man movie on the way, a gritty, 3-D origin story with no Maguire or Dunst or Raimi in sight. We know it’ll be directed by Marc Webb of (500) Days of Summer, and that it’ll hit theaters July 3, 2012 — a mere 768 days away! But we still don’t know the answer to our biggest question: Who’s going to take over web-slinging duties as the new Peter Parker? But that might be about to change… READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol': On the scene for the finale

Simon-Idol-finaleImage Credit: Kristian Dowling/PictureGroupWell, at least he’s a nice guy. Say what you want about Lee DeWyze winning American Idol (to my ears, Crystal Bowersox outperformed him the entire season), but at least the guy sincerely appreciated the love America showered upon him. Fox ended the finale telecast while Lee was still belting out U2′s “Beautiful Day,” which is too bad because the sweetest (as in, awww, that’s sweet) part of the show occurred right after his victory song. Lee, with mic still in hand, took a moment to personally thank the audience in the Nokia Theatre. “You have no idea how much this means to me,” Lee said. “Everyone, all of you guys up top (on the balcony), I love you! And another round of applause for Simon, too!” Lee could have simply walked off the stage and started what will surely be hours upon hours of media interviews and photo ops, but instead he took an off-camera moment to thank those responsible for his ascent to stardom — a classy move. This Week's Cover: The 100 Greatest Characters of the Last 20 Years. Roseanne, Harry Potter, Buffy, Homer, more!

In nine groundbreaking seasons, the brash blue-collar mom Roseanne Conner tackled taboos and took no guff from anyone on Roseanne — least of all her family. Now, as part of Entertainment Weekly’s 20th-anniversary Characters Issue, counting down the 100 greatest characters of the last two decades, Roseanne Barr shares with EW what her sitcom alter ego — and the rest of the Conner clan—would be up to in 2010. While some of what Barr muses about below may contradict what she’s previously stated in a personal blog post on the subject, we’d like to think what we have here, straight from Roseanne’s fingertips to this post, is the final say on the matter: READ FULL STORY »

Lee DeWyze on the 'American Idol' finale: 'I feel that a weight's been lifted off of my shoulders'

Lee-DewyzeImage Credit: Frank Micelotta/FoxAs American Idol‘s season 9 finalist Lee DeWyze worked his way along the photo press line backstage at the Nokia Theater last night, he kept thanking the photographers for all of their support. The 24-year-old former paint salesman appeared to be rather overwhelmed by his great good fortune, but that didn’t stop him from talking a mile a minute about how he came to realize he could win, why he chose U2′s “Beautiful Day” as his Idol coronation song, and how he deals with those pesky nerves.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: First of all, congratulations on winning!
LEE DEWYZE
: Thank you, thank you very much.

It looked like you were almost going to walk off stage after you learned the results.
I didn’t know what to do when I won, man. It was a surreal experience. What do you do when you win American Idol? I don’t know — I’ve never done it before, you know? Gah — it’s just, it’s like — it’s like something I can’t even explain to you right now. It’s amazing.

When this season did you start really thinking, “I could actually win this thing”?
When I stopped questioning myself. It’s really hard. READ FULL STORY »

Crystal Bowersox after 'American Idol' finale: 'I wouldn't have tried out if I didn't think I had a shot at winning'

Crystal-Bowersox-finaleImage Credit: Frank Micelotta/Fox Crystal Bowersox betrayed zero disappointment with the outcome of American Idol‘s ninth season while churning through the post-finale press machine backstage at the Nokia Theater last night. While the time the runner-up had to talk was all too brief, the 24-year-old Ohio mama happily discussed her feelings about Lee DeWyze’s win, the prospect of singing original songs on the show, and what it was like performing with Alanis Morissette and Joe Cocker on the massive Nokia stage.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: I know you’ve been saying you told Lee you hoped he would win, but was there any part of you that hoped you might win?
CRYSTAL BOWERSOX: Oh, of course! I mean, I wouldn’t have tried out if I didn’t think I had a shot at it. But, um, you know, I’m happy no matter what happens. I’ve got good friends, good family, amazing fans, and my son’s healthy. I really have no complaints in the world.

How would you describe your relationship with Lee?
Lee’s my buddy. I said — I think a few weeks ago when I was the only girl standing — that I was one of the guys. He’s hilarious. He’s got good jokes, he’s talented, he sings well. Lee’s got a light inside of him that’s just brilliant and pure. He’s been humble through this whole thing. He’s never once said “I think I’m going to win.” He’s genuine. He’s just completely genuine, and it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy, so I’m happy for him. READ FULL STORY »

Adam Lambert rep: Report about canceled 'American Idol' finale gig was 'completely fabricated'

Filed under: American Idol and tagged: ,

Adam-Lambert-new-photoA report by PopEater columnist Rob Shuter claiming that American Idol producers nixed Adam Lambert’s performance on the season finale because he failed to show up for rehearsals is filled with “false information,” says a rep for the season 8 runner-up. What happened, says 19 Entertainment’s Roger Widynowski, is that, like most major Idol grads, Adam was approached by producers about being a part of the telecast, which included seven out of eight previous Idol winners and a stage full of additional bold-faced show alumni paying tribute to departing judge Simon Cowell. Lambert, however, came down with a case of laryngitis over the weekend, and with his Glam Nation tour set to begin June 4 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was promptly placed on vocal rest. “He was never confirmed to do the show. He never skipped rehearsal,” adds Widynowski.

The PopEater article, however, quotes an unnamed source claiming that Lambert “did not show up for rehearsals, sending producers scrambling because they weren’t sure ‘if Adam is sick, being a diva, or worse, planning something that he does not want people to see.’” It goes on to say that Lambert wasn’t “interested in changing his performances to suit [Idol producers'] standards” and that “his non-appearance will be played off by claiming Lambert is sick.”

“That’s completely fabricated,” responds Widynowski.

One fact Widynowski and Shuter agree on is that Lambert did send out a Tweet on May 19 announcing he wouldn’t be part of the season-ending telecast. “Unfortunately not performing on Idol Finale. Guess they have plenty of artists booked. Catch me on Ellen tommorow [sic] and Leno on Friday,” Lambert wrote.

Requests for comment from Fox and American Idol were not immediately responded to. Check back at this space for any further updates.
